Spartak Moscow Region remained
on course for the treble by thrashing Dynamo Kursk on Sunday to reach
the Superleague Women play-off finals.
Winners of the Russian Cup
and the EuroLeague Women Final Four already this year, Pokey Chatman's
Spartak completed a 2-0 sweep of Kursk with a 92-69 Game 2 triumph on
Sunday.
Spartak led 67-57 heading into the last quarter and then
outscored Kursk 25-12 for a resounding victory.
EuroLeague Women
Final Four MVP Diana Taurasi made four shots from long range on her way
to a game-high 21 points for the Vidnoje team, which also got 16 points
and 10 rebounds from Russia international Irina Osipova.
UMMC
Ekaterinburg, beaten by Spartak in the Russian Cup final and at the
EuroLeague Women Final Four, bounced back on Sunday from their 77-76
upset in Game 1 of the other Superleague Women semi-final against
Nadezhda Orenburg.
Candace Parker led a balanced UMMC attack with
19 points.
Belarus international Katsiaryna Snytsina, who made
seven of 10 shots from long range and led all scorers with 36 points in
Game 1 for Nadezhda, sank just one of four from the arc in Game 2 and
ended up with 12 points.
UMMC beat Spartak in last year's
Superleague Women play-off finals.

Defending champions UMMC
Ekaterinburg have drawn first blood in their Russian Superleague Women
Finals showdown with Spartak Moscow Region.
Just 15 days after
falling to Spartak in the EuroLeague Women Semi-Finals in Valencia, UMMC
hit back with a vengeance in Vidnoje and claimed a 70-62 victory with
2,000 fans looking on.
UMMC will now return home looking to beat
Spartak in Game 2 and deny Spartak a treble, with Pokey Chatman's team
having won the Russian Cup and the EuroLeague.
Candace Parker
finished with 19 points for UMMC, who trailed 22-14 at the end of the
first quarter but took a 42-41 lead to half-time.
They pressed
home the advantage in the third, outscoring Spartak 19-10 in the frame
for a 61-51 lead.
Gundars Vetra's side then held on over the last
10 minutes for victory.
Agnieszka Bibrzycka and Maria Stepanova
each weighed in with 14 points for UMMC.
FIBA Europe Women's
Player of the Year, Sandrine Gruda, also chipped in eight points and a
team-high eight rebounds.
For Spartak, USA international center
Sylvia Fowles scored a game-high 22 points.
The visitors held
EuroLeague Women Final Four MVP Diana Taurasi to just 13 and also
limited Sue Bird to eight.
No other Spartak player scored more
than five points.
Fowles also had nine rebounds.
