  • During China Open Semifinal 2nd set Serena Williams got back injury but She came back on court and with tears in eyes, almost without walking on court won 62 62 vs Radwanska.

    • Williams now has 56 WTA titles to her name, separating herself from Virginia Wade and Lindsay Davenport for standalone seventh place on the all-time list of most WTA titles - she now trails only Martina Navratilova (167), Chris Evert (154), Steffi Graf (107), Margaret Court (92), Evonne Goolagong Cawley (68] and Billie Jean King (67)




  • Victoria Azarenka was honored at the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships - Istanbul, receiving the Diamond ACES Award for her contribution to promoting the sport in 2013.


    The award goes to a player who consistently goes above and beyond in promoting women's tennis to fans, media and local communities by performing off-court promotional and charitable activities. This year marked the seventh season in a row that a point-weighted system was used to award each of the off-court activities performed by players at WTA events - Azarenka won the award last year too.


    "I want to congratulate Victoria on her outstanding season and the contributions she has made through the WTA's Diamond ACES program," Stacey Allaster said. "Vika, and all WTA players, proudly serve as ambassadors of the game and continue to inspire future generations, on and off the court."


    Azarenka's numerous contributions to promoting women's tennis this season include helping Billie Jean King, Stacey Allaster and David Haggerty light up the Empire State Building in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the WTA; taking part in a major activation at the Toray Pan Pacific Open, where she hit with dozens of children on center court; and taking time out during the Sony Open Tennis to visit the Baptist Children's Hospital, spending time with the young children and handing out Wilson gift packs.


    The Diamond ACES Award was introduced in 1995 in memory of former WTA CEO Jerry Diamond. Since then 13 players have won the award: Arantxa Sánchez-Vicario, Gabriela Sabatini, Amanda Coetzer, Lindsay Davenport, Martina Hingis, Anastasia Myskina, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Jelena Jankovic, Ana Ivanovic, Elena Dementieva, Samantha Stosur, Caroline Wozniacki, and Azarenka.




  • It was a special day at the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships - Istanbul, as Serena Williams and the team of Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci were presented with their trophies for being the WTA's Year-End World No.1s in singles and doubles, presented by Dubai Duty Free.


    The players received their Year-End World No.1 trophies from Salah Tahlak, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications at Dubai Duty Free, just before the on-court action began on Friday.


    "Serena, Sara and Roberta have had outstanding seasons," Stacey Allaster, Chairman & CEO of the WTA, said. "They are truly inspirational women whose hard work and dedication has taken them to the very top of the game, and their feats continue to motivate many young athletes around the world."


    "Dubai Duty Free congratulates Serena, Sara and Roberta on reaching the pinnacle of the sport in singles and doubles," Dubai Duty Free's Mr. Tahlak said. "We are delighted to present these players with their Year-End World No.1 trophies, which symbolize outstanding results in 2013. We are a proud partner of the WTA and look forward to welcoming all three players back to Dubai in 2014."


    This is the third time Williams has finished a season at No.1, having also achieved the feat in 2002 and 2009. She is the seventh player to achieve the feat three times or more, after Steffi Graf (8], Martina Navratilova (7), Chris Evert (7), Lindsay Davenport (4), Justine Henin (3) and Martina Hingis (3).



  • Errani and Vinci are finishing a season at No.1 in doubles for the second time, having done it last year as well. They are the first doubles team to finish as Year-End World No.1s in back-to-back seasons since Cara Black and Liezel Huber achieved the feat for three straight years (2007 through 2009).
