False Friends in Slavic languages (funny)

  • Quote from "Konrad"

This is one of the best for me:

    laska (cze) = love
laska (pol) = a walking-stick, a chick, and something more... People from Poland know what I mean :wink2:

lasca (por) = very small piece of something (like wood)

I guess there's a LOT of words I can't say when I go to Poland

  • Another polish/czech false friends (:

    divak (cze) = spectator
dziwak (pol) = freak (about person)

    napad (cze) = idea
    napad (pol) = attack
so if Czech say 'i have idea' in polish that will be mean 'i have attack' (:

    odbyt (cze) = demand, sale
    odbyt (pol) = anus

    poprava (cze) = execution
    poprawa (pol) = imrovement

    divka (cze) = girl, miss
    dziwka (pol) = whore

and on the end (i don't know true or not) on door to public toilets is 'damy' (in czech mens that this toilet is for womens) and 'pani' (for mens), but in polish 'damy' means 'dammes' and 'pani' mens 'miss' so all toilets in Czech are for womens :wink2:

  • when i was in poland a week ago i saw some nice false friend between russian and polish :D
there was a magazine called like "style & uroda"

so in polish uroda means: beauty

... i didnt buy that magazine.....

  • Yes, Nastja. You'd better forget about this magazine ;)

    The most important 3:
