Brazil's NT 2011

  • As regards Brazil's team, there is not much to say so far. The biggest news are:

    1) Mari Steinbrecher is back. She has played three of four matches already for her team and she is improving day by day. Everybody expects that she improves a lot this season, especially when it comes to service reception cause Bernardinho is her coach.

    2) Paula Pequeno is also back. She came back a little earlier and she is also improving. Her services are getting better and she scored three of four aces agains the Osasco team. She's jump serving again, just like she did in the Beijing OG.

    3) Jaqueline got injured in her knee and she had to undergo a surgery. It will take her three or four weeks to recover and the expectation is that she play the Brazilian League playoffs next month already. Her team is missing her a lot.

    4) Fabiola is playing a great league and I believe she is currently Brazil's #1 setter. She has injured her hand but it seems this is not a big deal. All she needs is a little rest in order to get fully recovered.

    5) Carol Gattaz got finally rid of the problems in her feed. She is back to her team and she definitely needs to play a great league. Otherwise she will not be called for the NT. She lost her spot as Brazil's 3rd middle-blocker to Adenizia and only played the WCH last year cause Paula was dropped out of the team.

    6) Amazingly, Sassá is playing a great league, especially when it comes to her performance in attacking. It seems the return of both Mari and Paula are making her work harder to grab a spot in Brazil's NT.

  • Osasco misses Jaqueline a lot. She was not playing like last season but she is still a important player.

About Fabiola, i like her but i think she is not stable. She can play great in a set and then awfull. But i think she is better than Dani Lins.

She was the hero of Japan-Brazil game i guess. She is a bit short but she has nice technique and backrow abilities.I like her style and she is a crucial player for Brazil NT no doubt.

Yeah, I also think that, about Fabíola, it's arguable if she's all that. I think so far, in the league, she's ok. Dani Lins is also ok. Maybe Dani won't need to set so many balls to Sheila now that Mari's back. But none of those two is being actually very good until this point, IMO. Best setters, for my taste, are Cláudia from Minas and Camilla Adão from Macaé but most likely they won't have a shot at the NT. Too bad setter Camila Torquette, also from Minas, doesn't have a lot of chances to play.

  • I agree with you yates. IMO Dani Lins and Fabiola will never be a awesome setter. In some games they will play amazing but they will never be a setter that you can trust.

One problem of this new setters (i think not only in Brazil) is that they are not so precise. They make som many mistakes. Attackers never know where the setter is going to set the ball. Sometimes to close to the net, sometimes too far.

Well, I am really optimistic about the fact that Fabiola will improve as the setter of Brazil's team. I believe Zé Roberto made some mistakes when it comes to the choice of setters, but the work with Fabiola must continue.

In 2005, Brazil's setters were Carol Albuquerque and Marcelle, in 2006 the setters were Fofão and Carol Albuquerque, in 2007, for the WGP he called Fofão and Carol Albuquerque, but for the World Cup the setters were Fofão and Fabíola. In my opinion he should have kept Carol Albuquerque in the team, especially because in 2008 he called Fofão and Carol Albuquerque.

Amazingly, in 2009 Fabiola was not even considered for the position of setter of Brazil's team and one year after she's Brazil's #1 setter. I strongly believe that if Fabiola had been in the team since 2007 she would have been playing a lot better now, cause she is one of the least experienced players of the team (as regards international matches) and she doesn't play with any of the NT's attackers in her club.

If Zé Roberto had decided to invest in Fabiola since 2009 I think the results would have been appearing already. I believe this work of preparing the Brazil's NT setter is a little behind schedule but luckily there is enough time for the accomplishment of such a task.

  • When does Brazil begin their summer training? I assume after the SuperLeague concludes, but is there an official date? Any new faces possibly?

  • Yes, I think there is no oficial date yet TheUSAFAN. Probably after the end of the league, the girls will have some rest, and then Zé will make a call.

But I dont think the team will be much different from last year. Lets wait :)

  • I have woken up.
I had a dream that Kenya beat Brazil after the tie break 15-13 in the match of the World Championships.
The last point Kenya has got after the crossing the line during service.
I remember that when libero has received the last ball has got knee injury.
And libero has screamed because of pain and has lain on the court but the Players have screamed too but because of the Victory.
    ^^

I agree what you say, Sassa is really special for the team, so I think she'll play in this year. :super:

  • Sassa is playing well this season but I don't think Brazil is the same team with her on the floor. She is a great server and passer but her attacking isn't the same as having Jacqueline, Paula, or Mari. I'm sure she'll make the team to come in as a serving specialist or stabilize passing if things breakdown but I not in the starting 6. I really hope Paula Pequeno can get back to the level she was at. Her game has dropped in so many ways following her injury.

  • I have a question to Brazilian users about Ana Tiemi Takagui(The tall setter) and Suelle Oliviera. How do they perform in brazilian league now?Actually i remember them from Turkey Junior WCH 2005.Ana Tiemi was the same generation player of Wei,Antonjevic etc but she didnt improve like them. They both had a main effect on this championship but i can't hear their name now. They didnt shine like Thaisa or Adenizia.

Honestly I think Ana Tiemi is a big disapoitment for everyone that likes volleyball. Not due her performances, but due her choices. For, I cant even remind now how much seasons, she is in bench in Osasco, and she prefer to stay like that rather to go play as starting six in another team.

This season, like the last one she pretty much didnt step inside court during a game. So it is really hard to analise how she is doing, and would be even unfair maybe, since she clearly dont have game rithym. It was her choice, and well nothing we can do about it...but for me is really clear she didnt developed as she could (I actually used to think she would have a great career ahead her by the time she used to play in Minas) due her passive decision to keep with same situation. At least this is my opinion.

Now about Suelle, what can I say, I think she is doing quite well. She signed with Unilever to be bench, but since Mari injuried she played most games in beggining of season, and she did quite well. She is not a decisive player in attack, yet, but she is really regular, can make good receptions and good defenses.. I think Mari injury ended helping her a lot, since she had to play. I think she has good potencial, and can grow even more. Honestly I say as a fan, I would prefer to see her in starting six team right now of Unilever in place of Regiane. She enter in her place in last Unilever game, first of semifinal and was elected MVP :)

  • according to what big mouth bruno voloch said on twitter, the head coach ze roberto has decided the covocation list and it will be announced by technical committee later this week. it is said the first stage of training will call no more than 17 players, probably it includes

setter - dani lins, fabiola, ana tiemi
    opposite - sheilla, joyce
outside hitter - jaqueline, marianne, natalia, fernanda garay, paula, sassa
middle blocker - fabiana, thaisa, adenizia, juciely
    libero - camila, fabi

ze roberto will call other 8 players (potentials from superliga and junior NT players) for team B. a combination of team B plus some players from team A will participate Yeltsin Cup in Russia.

for Team A, the first official game will Panamerican Cup in Mexico, which is also a qualifier for WGP 2012.

i may not be the tallest,
    the fastest, or the strongest,
but at least i can do one thing better than anyone else,
    to be me...

  • Ana Tiemi ?( Why....Ana Christina was this season much better...I think it is a strange decision. Also I feel sorry for Carol Gattaz, but Juciely played really very well this year. I think she found her game in Unilever!!!
