The Destinee Hooker Injury Timeline

  • Well...I didnt want to give my opinion about this hole history, cause, well honestly I dont have a one very well made it....so far there is so much history, and honestly, like one of the guys here said, I think no one know for sure knows what is true or what is not.

After readding what Hooker said, Ill put here two notes that Pesaro and her ex agent gave for italian press.

    Pesaro -
"This morning (11/03) Destinee Hooker left Pesaro to US where she will make a surgery in her knee with a doctor of her trust. This iniciative was made without the aproval of the club or the medical staff (Alfredo Bressan e Piergiorgio Pirani), that understands that the surgery is not necessary, and that with who the athlete, in any case, should come to a commom decision. In the medical staff of Scavolini, that had the athlete under control in these last months, is also doctor Raul Zini, internationaly famous ortopedist and specialist in treatting knee injuries."

For me the hole thing that is ticking more in my head, is actually not the injury, though I do think she could have come to an agreement with the club, but is the fact she changed her agent, I though that really weird.
The Sportmanagement, the ones that took her to Italy in first place, gave also a note about this history, giving the right in the history to Pesaro. They said that they do not represent more the player since 15/02, but that the athlete in any moment told them the end of the partneship, she simply left them without saying anything. They just descover they were not representing her anymore through Pesaro, that was presented to her new agent 04/03 (now makes sence, since the new agent is Sb community, and they were playing in Zurich). They said in the note that during the time they represented her, she sent many emails complaning about the doctors, saying she didnt trust them, and emails of her asking them (sportmanagement) to let her get back to US, cause she didnt find agreement in Pesaro to let her leave. Cause of that they decided to take a specialist to PEsaro to exam her. They said the diagnost of this doctor was the same of Pesaro doctors, that was not a case of surgery, and that she could be recovered in 10/15 days. Ahead this information the Sportmanagement decided to not consider the option to send Hooker back to US.

Looking all that, and knowing by Hooker itself that in beggining of season already was writting she missed home, and that she was not liking Pesaro and everything, and even more now that I descover she is now being represented by SB Community...I imagine

Hooker has a injury that is for sure....but do she really need surgery NOW? How serious is this? I imagine that, cause well, we can get Enrica Merlo for example, Bergamo libero, she also needs to make a arthroscopy in her knee, but is not something urgent, that can not wait...so she decided to postpone it, and she is living well. All athletes feel pain, is foolish think the other way. Of course, Hooker is the only one that can know for sure how pain she is having, and Im not sugesting she should live with that. But then I think she honestly should have come to an agreement with the club, not simply left them.

Maybe she could had made a efford to play the final four, and then just asked the club to not play the rest of the season, I think would be more professional, and would not cause all this problem. Cause also, I mean, she played against volero, then in weekend she didnt face Bergamo, from her last game till today it passed what 15 days...or so. She played the hole season....could not her play just more two game, not saying just two games, the two most important games in the history of your club, or even in your history, does not an athlete live for these moments? If she had totaly rupture her knee ligaments, she could not walk or anything....then of course there is no other way, she would need imediatly surgery..but was that the case? Anyway, Im not here to judge. I think she knows, at least she should know, what are her priorities.

Looking since the start, though I really like Hooker, I do think she made a mistake leaving the club. I know we have many Hooker fans here, and really I udnerstand your consern with her, I also like her, and think athletes health should be priority, but in other hand I can not stop thinking her atitude was not very professional. She should not had left the club like this. But she is so young..maybe she was just very bad instructed. I hope everything can end up well for her.

  • Ciao Pedro, do you have the source of this comments, of Guiggi, Tofoli and Ferretti, they told that for some site? thanks in advance

  •

Pedro, what did Guiggi say exactly about Hooker's situation/injury?

Guiggi said that in 10 years she never met a player like her. That would be enough probably (as Ilgar said! Again you didn't answer my question: why should I believe Hooker and not the rest of the team??).

However she said she never gave her her number, she way crying when practising because she said they were practising way too much. She also said this fact was in the air for a long time and so they were kind of happy she left, because she was unbearable at that point.

Tofoli said that in a men team the whole team would have crushed against her after a few days and that the girls were way too kind and that he would have played a F4 of ECL even on one leg.

Ferretti said she left without saying anything, just writing an e-mail on Facebook to

Well Hooker is the same player who criticised her own team during the world championships when they lost to Italy, and said on Twitter that her teammates needed to 'grow up'. She was then asked to take down the Twitter. She is very young - but so are a lot of other players but you dont hear this sort of bad attitude about them. Its a shame because she could have learned a lot playing in Italy as a lot of players have. Hopefully her injury is not too bad. She is a good player, but its just a shame about the attitude. I havent liked her since that incident at the world championship, I think there are many players better than her who are better role models for the sport.

  • it seems like a soap opera called "Beautiful" in Italy and if i remember well the original title was "The bold and the beautiful" but I don't know exactly

It's possible, you just have to believe in yourself and really not care what other people say, because I've heard it all.
If you let someone else dictate what you're going to do in life, then you won't get there.

Non so neanche come onestamente: in due mesi ero di nuovo in campo.

  • . Honestly knowing Italian mentality and character I will bet that Destinee is clear in this case.

WHAT??? ahahahahaahahaha Destinee Dante Hooker is pathetic..

  • I will really like to see you all in her shoes, its easy to seat in chair in front of computer and be smart and big athlete.
She never said anything against her teammates, club (Scavolini Pesaro) or person who was representing him self like her manager, and on other side all of them talk bad about her, why they do that??? I know, you will say she deserted team and went home, but is it really like that??? How you can be sure in something like that listening just one side, for common seance I always wait to hear both sides and than make my opinion, in this case when just one (Italian) side is talking bad about other side (Destinee), I got impression that she is correct side and trust her.

Somebody of you said that she is pathetic, pathetic is that all of you trust to side who is louder and talking dirty about other side (Destine).

I will just like to ask Joanamss why is problem if she is homesick? if she don't like Pesaro (city)? That was not problem to her to score each match for Scavolini Pesaro more than 25 points, and from team who was playing against weak teams like Dinamo Bucharest 3-2, and hardly wining that kind matches to make team who win matches against Rabita Baku. We all saw how Scavolini was playing without Destinee and with Destinee. I think that all supporters of Scavolini and Italian volleyball know that and that is in fact main problem here.

and, can you enlighten me, is SB-Community bad agency???

  • Sorry, I dont think that Hooker is bad person or anything...I agree with you that we should heard bith sides, that is why I said my opinion is not very much clear yet, I definetly would like to hear Hooker side, like why she left now..and why she dont trust doctors in ITaly..and also if she thinks to return after she recover to playoffs, after all, an artroscopy dont take that long to recover, some weeks, anditalian league only ends in june..but I guess there is not enviroment for her tehre anymore unfortunetly.

about your questions...she definelty can feel homesick and not like Pesaro as city..of course she can, I just think is not very professional to be writting bad things about your club in an open space like twitter..just that...since she work for them, and they pay her salary, I think would be more cleaver and respectful she didnt right bad thing, that is all, but is a personal view....again, I think she is young, and maybe was not very instructed.

And Ill tell again, its just a personal opinion, I dont wanna amke like correct one, its just what I see from what I listen so far..., I do think she is injury, and even she should treat it, for sure, Im just not sure yet, if her injury is serious enough that she could not wait two more weeks and play such important tournament as a champions league is...that is all. I think she could have got to an agreement with club, and not simply left...I think that is not something nice to do, but also I agree with you, is easy to be in our situation, outside...we definelty dont know whats been trought in Hooker mind.

About sb-community....well, its not that they are a bad agency, probably not, since they have so many players under their eyes...I dont know them, and who work there, I just dont have a nice felling about them....they are always in middle of some weird histories, like this year in Perugia, now this one with Hooker, dont know....I dont trust their interestes, whats behind them...that is all. ;) Its just personal opinion.

  • I'm agree!!! :obey:

  • Yeah, like I said, most of you fall on story of ones who where yelling louder, or in this case only one who talk bad about other side. For me is strange that club, players and Italian media are talking bad about Destinee and she is not saying a word about them, for me that is strange and gives me idea what happened.
If you all we allowed that they play you like that, do it.

what happened in Perugia, and about what weird histories you are talking?

  • I'd just like to point out that the there is a very clear European bias on this board. Yes, the Champions League is a very entertaining and important tournament, but here in the USA people are much more concerned with the Olympics and the National Team and don't place much emphasis on the Champions League. I'm sure that had to factor into Destinee's decision somewhat. American fans would rather see Destinee 100% ready by the summer when Olympic qualification training begins than have her play injured for a Champions League title. I agree that the way she handled her communication via Twitter and Facebook was unprofessional. However, calling her "pathetic" and questioning whether she was really injured is completely absurd. Scavolini is undoubtedly a weaker team without her and I think there are fans that are just upset she won't be there to help their cause. No matter what people say her talent and ability is outstanding and she has gone from college to an international super star in less than a year. Once she recovers from her injury I'm sure she'll be able to play wherever she chooses and for a salary that many players could only dream of.

I agree with USAFan this time. Hooker didn't manage to act professionaly with this whole situation but why should she play more games having risk to damage even more her injury? The player's health is more important than anything else.
It's not from today Pesaro wants an IECL so I cleary understand all their angry with her for leaving the team 'cause they know they can't win IECL without her. If Tofoli really said he would play with a single leg to win an IECL then I understand no matter what he would tell she's ok to play this tournament. And let's be honest. Hooker is a foreign player, not an italian one, playing to win a title for an italian team. If she managed to play and her injury got worst would Pesaro take care of her? Do you think so? I remember years ago Bernardi had some issues with FIPAV and his club and he's an italian person.

So I don't agree the way Hooker handled this whole situation but I understand her and I think she's right to foccus on her health. I believe not only in Italy but in every other country teams wants their athletes to play no matter what even if that means they will have to be off from NT. Hooker chose her health and her NT. I'm not a fan of the USA team but I want her playing for them 'cause she's one of the best players to come around the past years.

the champions league is very important for the european clubs, so when a player makes a contract with one of those clubs, then she has a responsibilitiy also for those tournaments and saying that other torunaments are more important is just unprofessional and in my opinion those players should not be allowed to play in european competition. but if she has a bad injury, then its a normal behaviour, althouh this all destinee story is for me a little bit suspicious.

  • I'm not saying that DH didn't take the Champions League seriously, because if she didn't Pesaro wouldn't have even made it to the Final Four in the first place. What I am saying is that there is a bigger picture for her career and I'm sure there are other things she's considering besides just this particular tournament. Due to the competition amongst European NTs, some athletes won't even get to participate in the Olympics and the Champions League may be the biggest tournament they'll ever get to play in and therefore there may be athletes that would play even with an injury and decide to delay surgery. Hooker is not one of those athletes and just because she signed a contract to play for Pesaro doesn't mean she has to be. She was clearly injured and has already underwent surgery so I am not sure what is so suspicious. If she weren't injured it would be ethically unacceptable for a doctor to operate on her knee just to corroborate her story.

  • I don't want Hooker to come back to Italy after bad things were said about her.I think she should have a rest until the NT season!

I agree with you. although I'm a huge fan of Scavolini, Hooker should have a rest time. Please do not come back to Pesaro... I don't want to know anymore what the hell will happen after She comes back to Pesaro
Pesaro should let Saccomani play, She can play terrible for a while, but young players must be given time...
