Underrated Players and Teams

  • We already have a Dream Team thread where we choose world's best players for each position. But there are so many good players in the world who are not that famous due to some reasons like not playing for a NT or in a good league, being too young etc. So I thought we can still build up a strong team with those players who have a potential to be succesful and it wouldn't cost too much.

    So my underrated team is:

    Setter: Angie Mc Ginnis (USA)
    Opposite: Saskia Hippe (GER)
Outside Hitters: Auera Cruz (PUR), Ezgi Dagdelenler (TUR)
Middle Blockers: Alessya Safronova (KAZ), Berenika Okuniewska (POL)
    Libero: Brenda Castillo (DOM)

I just have starting six you can write your reserve players too if you wish.

P.S. I am not sure if the thread name is OK. I am open to suggestions.

  • Recently I thought about a similar thing. In many leagues there are great players which are not playing for a NT, either because they come from countries which has no (or a very weak) NT or because they are from countries which have a great amount of high quality players. I don't refer to players who have retired from NT or refuse to play for NT for various reasons, that's their own problem...
Some examples are Valdone Petrauskaite (LTU, Urbino), Olgo Tocko Ativi (LAT, Rabita), Sladjana Eric (SRB, Modena...SRB has too many good MBs!) and a lot of players from Brazil, USA, Russia...

I'd put "Underrated players and teams" as title.

  • Matthias
How would your starting seven look like if you were to make up a team with those players?

  • Difficult question, because I don't like dream team scenarios so much...let me think:

Setter: maybe Fernandinha or one of the Italian or American setters who are not in the main NT, e.g. Signorile, Bechis, Dalia/Spicer, Mc Ginnis
Opp: Kenny Moreno Pino maybe...or Madelayne Montano
OH: Petrauskaite, Tocko-Ativi would certainly be candidates, and Russia has a great amount of good attackers, e.g. Bukreeva, Malofeeva, even Naumova is better than many OHs from other countries, Janine Sandell from GBR also is a quite good player in Spanish league since some years
MB: Vita Prychepa from UKR is a very good player, she plays in Spanish league for Menorca, and in general Serbia has so many good middles (Krsmanovic, Rasic, Veljkovic, Marinkovic, Petrovic, Ninkovic, Eric...), also Brazil and USA have so many good players on this position
Libero: In German league, Evelyn Delogu from Brazil is a very very good libero, and in general almost all liberos in Italian league are really great, but only 2-3 of them can be in Italy NT. I hope Giulia Leonardi from Urbino gets a chance this year...

  • Generaly second team of Brazil could be here:)

    Setter: N.Spicer, Signorile, Salinas, Nilay,
Opp: K. Konieczna, Seda Tokatogliu, Neriman Ozsoy, de Carne (but she is famous), C. Turlea
MB: A. Hendzel (BLR), few Serbian or American MBs, S. Wojcieska, S. Pycia,
OH: Petrauskaite, Attivi, C. Bosetti, A. Cruz(but she is also famous), E.Sieczka, K. Jaszewska, E. Skowronska
Libero: M. Saad (POL), half of italian liberos,

  • We can add Natalia Korobkova (RUS) to the list. She is a good opposite.
