Russia was suspended 1 year by FIVB ?

  • I have heard that Russia national team was suspended for 1 year by FIVB from the tournament World Grand Prix 2005 .
Does anyone know about the detail ? why ? what reason ? why they banned Russia ?

They were banned because in 2004 they played WGP with a B-team. Probably there was something else behind it, but that was the official reason.

  • I have volleyball newspaper where is written that after Olympic Games 2004 before qualific tour to WGP 2005 Russia hadn't full Roster because many Players and Karpol also left the Team and They send whole list of Players after time which CEV created what disqualif Them from qualific Tour.

2005 World Grand Prix - Russia excluded from competition

Lausanne, Switzerland, September 15, 2004 - World number six and Olympic silver medalists Russia have been excluded from the 2005 FIVB World Grand Prix and September's Grand Prix Continental Qualification tournament following a decision taken by the FIVB on Thursday, September 9, 2004.

The FIVB came to the decision due to several breaches of the FIVB Constitution, Code of Conduct and Regulations during the 2004 edition of the World Grand Prix.

"The Russian side did not register a complete team during the Preliminary Round as per FIVB regulations and the behavior of the head coach was contrary to the FIVB rules and regulations when he left the tournament after the first round," FIVB General Manager Mr. Jean-Pierre Seppey said.

The decision means the Russian women's national team will not participate in the Grand Prix Qualification Tournament which will be held in Ankara (TUR) from September 21-26, 2004.

Finishing eighth during the European Senior Championships 2003 Romania will replace Russia, joining Poland, Turkey, Germany, the Netherlands, and Bulgaria. The three best teams from Europe and Italy as the organiser of the Final Round in 2005 will join eight other teams (Brazil, USA, Cuba, Dominican Republic, China, Thailand, Japan, Korea) in the FIVB World Grand Prix 2005.
