Previously strong opp were used as foreigners in Japanese league, it is surprising to see that for next season most of the clubs use their foreigner slot as MBs

  • Bauru (BRA) signed Mari (BRA) and she starts training on October 3rd

  • Anne has not arrived in Rio yet due to to problems with getting her visa. The team needs her for the World championship...

  • Voww, she played for Oregon in college ( which is where I live), and she`s really not good at all, besides being short and a little "heavy" back in the day.

There must be no local players at all in Germany for them to just sign someone like her??

  • I don`t think a lot people on voleytalk watch a lot of international volleyball to understand the difference btw NCCA and the international level.

My point is, if a club in Germany will sign a foreign, it should be only if is a really high level player, otherwise they should give the chance for a local player. Like in Russia,China,Brazil,Italy for example they will sign a foreign player only if they are among the very best players in the world, they wont just sign a "nobody".

I don't agree with you. In Italy there are a lot of average back-up players who are not Italian (like Bruna Ana Vrankovic etc) or inexperienced (like Scuka or Mori).

  • But Im not talking about only 1 player or a couple players.....In Germany mostly all the foreing players are low level ( with all the respect to them), with that being said, they should just give the chance for the local players instead.

  • Really? She's praised a lot on volleytalk

She won't follow Kreklow's steps in Germany, but she's not that bad. Yes, she could lose some weight in order to play better, but still she led Oregon to its first NCAA final, where they honestly had no chances against Texas (Eckerman, Webster, Allison, Mc'Neal, Bell...).

She was quite good in Porto Rico.

This is actually a continuation from the ECh thread, this topic is probably more suited here. The main reason such teams aren't giving a chance to local players is simple - they are more expensive. It might seem counter-intuitive, but it's really not. See, local players simply have more options. Most of them are balancing between volleyball and school/college waiting to see how things pan out. For them to go into volleyball full time, they need to be paid more than they would be in some other profession, and in a league like German, many/most teams just can't compete with that. On the other hand, foreign players are already full time pros and need to take whatever chance they get. Often they'd be willing to make a sacrifice and spend a season or two in a lower paying league and make an impact there, so they could move somewhere they'd earn more money.
So, a local player might be marginally better than some mediocre foreigner, but when you take everything into account, she's just not worthwhile enough for the club.

Well, that 2nd place was mostly thanks for Ailana Bergsman ololololol
