Italian NT 2016

  • I wonder if Sirressi will be called back...

if Bonitta prefers to secure back row then it's possible ^^ what about Gennari, is she still in game ?(

Well, also for the training having two liberos is quite important... Even in case Bonitta has already decided not to bring two liberos to Rio, I mean.

Gennari will join the team in Cavalese on the 8th, but I don't know what will be her condition...

He meant 8th of July...she is already there, but she is working by herself to recover. Maybe in the next part of trainings (today the first has finished) she will be able to partially join the team.

  • Ilaria Spirito had a worst knee injury than expected (not meniscus, but cruciate ligaments rupture), so she won't play for at least six months :(

For the second and last collegial in Cavalese Bonitta called 14 players: Centoni, Chirichella, Danesi, De Dennaro, Del Core, Diouf, Egonu, Gennari, Guiggi, Lo Bianco, Malinov, Orro, Ortolani, Sylla.

I hope Gennari is ok because we need an equilibrate player of the back row, imho...

My guess for the two to be cut: Malinov and Centoni (if Gennari is ok).
    Alternative: Orro, Diouf, Gennari.

  • Italian team for Rio 2016
Nadia Centoni, Cristina Chirichella, Anna Danesi, Monica De Gennaro, Antonella Del Core, Valentina Diouf, Paola Egonu, Martina Guiggi, Eleonora Lo Bianco, Alessia Orro, Serena Ortolani, Miriam Sylla.

    So Gennari is OUT :(

  • I disagree, Sylla can actually defend very well and has a big "heart". Very happy for her, she has improved dramatically in the last months.

Diouf didn't do anything to deserve her ticket but we all know that she's the only player (with Egonu) that can turn around a match. I'm sure she won't, but I'd rather have her rotting on the bench rather than watching the games from home and wishing we had more firepower.

  • horrible nightmare of "4 OPP in Rio"came true.
Hope Del core will not exhausted on the way to the 9 place......

IN 2004, 2008 AND 2012, Italy had great receivers but failed of receiving in quarterfinals.
This time, this"attacking makes up for receiving"plan is insane.Bonitta will be a great adventurer or a worst ass.

    Good Luck.

    I agree.

Obviously I would have loved to have Gennari in Rio, but if she isn't ok she needed to be cut, unfortunately.

I wonder if Spirito would have had a chance without the injury, but the fact Sirressi wasn't called in the collegial made me think that for Bonitta the only solution for the back row would have been Gennari or nothing.

May be they're also training the 2-players reception, who knows.

I actually have quite enough faith in Bonitta choices: even when brave and/or surprising he has been often proved right, imho.

  • I think these are the best choices.. This olympic will be very hard for us, it will be already a great achievement to grab the quarter finals. The roster is strong is strong in attack, while in Beijing and London we didn't have so much firepower. I hope this young girls will develop a lot in the future, now they can show how much they value... :box:

Best choices? How can you say that? This team has only 1 OH who can receive/defend well and 1 Libero. Which means only 2 players who are reliable in the back row. Not enough for such an important and long tournament like the Olympics. What if one of them gets injured or simply has a bad day? Will we see Egonu or Diouf as Libero?
Even Netherlands has more defensive specialists than us (Grothues, Stam and the 2nd libero). Those who say that Sylla is a good receiver are drunk. She is very shaky instead, and most of all she lacks of consistency(also in attack). Ortolani is not a disaster in the back row but she's not so reliable either, and her attacks from the left wing are not the same level as when she attacks as an OPP (which is the position she has always played when she won Champions Leagues or Italian Leagues).

I understand that Gennari and Spirito are injured, Piccinini and Lucia Bosetti and many others have personal problems with Bonitta  but why not taking Sirressi instead of Centoni or Diouf? Or some other libero.. or Di Iulio, Tirozzi, Italy has plenty of good defensive OH. It's unbelievable and shameful that we are going to Rio with 4 OPP, such an unbalanced team. It never happened before in Italian volleyball history :white: :aww:

  • too many OPs without doubts  and what if backrow fails - they have no alterantive :!: Ortolani or Egonu aren't such...

  • For a lot of years, we used to be a "defensive-team" and our problem was put down the ball. I mean when we had Del Core, Bosetti L, Costagrande, Piccinini together (more or less together). Yeah, we USED TO... Now we have the opposite problem and it makes me laugh (well, actually cry).
For us this team is kinda crazy.

Injuries are not by our side (Arrighetti [still not at her best], Gennari, Spirito). I think the missing player is Tirozzi [instead of Diouf]. IMO she deserved to be in the NT.

Del Core in her last tournament ever ;( will almost work more than in her whole career. I hope she will be fine during the whole tournament.
    As DH would say, KHIOP!

Lo Bianco, Guiggi, Del Core and Centoni (4/12) are our most experienced players. I expect a lot from them in this tournament.

Orro instead of Malinov is a good choice.

    Since :
    - we have TOO MANY OPPs
    - Bonitta can't even choose a starting 6+1 (so a starting OPP)
    - Leo is not used to play that much
I think we may see A LOT of double-subs.

I would love a team with Centoni as staring OPP.

It's possible, you just have to believe in yourself and really not care what other people say, because I've heard it all.
If you let someone else dictate what you're going to do in life, then you won't get there.

Non so neanche come onestamente: in due mesi ero di nuovo in campo.
