It looks like former Heungkuk coach Cha Hae-Won will lead Korea NT this year. I wonder what prompted this change. 1
By the way, something went wrong with NT photoshoot for VNL this year :) Lighting is just so unflattering.

Looks like rookie setter LEE Won-Jeong and both liberos KIM Hae-Ran and KIM Yeong-Yeon were cut from the team as evident in the team photo (only with 18 players).

Forgot to mention who the coach was when I posted the team roster. Apparently, Cha Hae-Won has actually already been the coach for the Women NT team once before in 2013.

The Korean Volleyball Association (KVA) and Korean Volleyball Federation (KOVO) decided to establish a long-term plan for the men and women NT for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. I first read about their plan after the World Championship Asian Qualifier in late September 2017. Previously, I think the coach for NT was appointed on an annual basis. The KVA and KOVO announced that they would co-operate to strengthen the NT competitiveness. Hence, the appointment of full-time coaching staffs for the NT until the Asian Game in 4 years time with midway evaluation after the Olympics. Subsequently, in early February Cha Hae-Won was appointed as coach of the Korean Women NT.

I previously posted these in the VNL thread but ICYMI:

Kim Yeon-Koung will not be travelling with the South Korea NT when they go to Apeldoorn (Netherlands) in week 3 and Santa Fe (Argentina) in week 5. Kim will be rested and will only play in Ningbo (China), Suwon (South Korea), and Nakhon Ratchasima (Thailand).

I think there is a possibility that other senior players in the Korean NT will also be rested when they travel to Netherlands and Argentina.

Look like the other senior players that will rest in the 3rd & 5th week along with KYK will be MB Yang Hyo-Jin and Kim Su-Ji.

Korean roster for the 1st week:
  • S: LEE Hyo-Hee, LEE Na-Yeon, LEE Da-Yeong
  • OPP: KIM Hee-Jin, NA Hyun-Soo
  • OH: KIM Yeon-Koung, PARK Jeong-Ah, LEE Jae-Yeong, KANG So-Hwi
  • MB: KIM Su-Ji, YANG Hyo-Jin, PARK Eun-Jin
  • Li: YIM Myung-Ok, NA Hyun-Jung

MB JEONG Sun-Ah will also travel with the team to China.

The core of the team from 2017 FIVB Girls' U18 World Championship remains. The most notable players on the team are No. 2 LEE Ju-Ah (MB), No. 18 PARK Hye-Min (OH) and No. 11 JUNG Ho-Young (OP). LEE Ju-Ah and PARK Hye-Min were awarded Best Middle Blocker and Best Outside Hitter respectively at 2017 Asian Girls' U18 Volleyball Championship in Chongqing, China. Also, both players along with PARK Eun-Jin and NA Hyun-Soo (who both recently debuted with the Senior Women NT) will be highly sought after by the V-League teams at this year Draft. JUNG Ho-Young who is currently 16 y.o. and 189 cm tall has been labelled by the Korean media as the next KYK. IMO she still has a lot of things to learn before she comes anywhere near KYK but on the plus side still have time to learn and develop. Also, this will be JUNG Ho-Young second time at the Asian U19 Championship as she was apart of the 2016 team at the age of 14 only.

Korean roster for the 3rd week in Apeldoorn (Netherlands):
  • S: 5. LEE Hyo-Hee, 6. LEE Na-Yeon, 19. LEE Da-Yeong
  • OP: 1. NA Hyun-Soo, 4. KIM Hee-Jin
  • OH: 2. KIM Ju-Hyang, 13. PARK Jeong-Ah, 15. KANG So-Hwi, 17. LEE Jae-Yeong, 18. YOO Seo-Yeun
  • MB: 9. JEONG Sun-Ah, 25. PARK Eun-Jin
  • Li: 8. YIM Myung-Ok, 20. NA Hyun-Jung

MB 12. KIM Chae-Yeon travelled with the team but missed out due to an abdominal muscle injury.

As previously mentioned OH 10. KIM Yeon-Koung, MB 11. KIM Su-Ji, and MB 14. YANG Hyo-Jin has been rested for this week. Cha Hae-Won will give the younger players a chance to play this week.

My guess on the most likely starting line-up:
  • Attacking from the sides will be 13. PARK Jeong-Ah and 15. KANG SO-Hwi, and 17. LEE Jae-Yeong
(Jeong-Ah and So-Hwi, one will be OH whilst the other will be OP).

  • In the middle, 4. KIM Hee-Jin and 25. PARK Eun-Jin
(A lot of expectation on Eun-Jin as the future MB for the Korean NT and she hasn't even gone pro yet).

  • Setter will be 19. LEE Da-Yeong
(Still need to gain more experience and improve, most likely led the NT at Tokyo in 2020 as Lee Hyo-Hee will be 40 y.o. by then).

  • And libero 8. YIM Myung-Ok
(I personally prefer 20. NA Hyun-Jung in the libero position, she just seems quicker).
