Unpopular opinions

  • Can you differentiate for me: foreign players and foreign specialists? Thank you

Foreign players are the likes of Bulgarian Kaziyski, Belorussian Akhrem, American Anderson or Swede Nilsson playing effectively permanently outside their countries. Foreign specialists are the likes of Busato and Placi who travel to other countries to coach (but more importantly, advise) foreign clubs and/or national teams. This may sound as a surprise opinion (the topic of this thread permitting) as the lack of restrictions may feel like a better option for the quality of the game.

This is very much true but only in short-term perspective. What we have is a limited pool of superstar players from various countries who travel from one championship to another, depending on mainly financial conditions. Plenty of examples available. Italy, who started brilliantly with their phenomenal generation, had then heavily relied on recruitment of overseas-trained workforce like Fomin, Giba, Yakovlev, Kaziyski. The result if that the performance of Italian clubs in the international cups depends solely on the financial situation in Italy. Italian NT is afloat largely due to characters like Zaytsev, Travica, Lasko... they may add Juantorena at some point. The same applies to many other leagues. E.g. the "heyday" of the Turkish and Azerbaijani leagues may end within one day. The more stingy Polish league collects pensioners from abroad (Schops, Veres etc). One should not look at the situation in football as an example. In football, Europe has a number of established very strong leagues that maintain the overall level despite of financial oscillations. In volleyball, this multipolarity has not been set up.

In brief, having a good scout is great, but having a good school is better, in the long run.

  • A drinking game should be conducted where you take a drink whenever:
    - Angelo Vercesi dives for a ball while he is coaching
    - Kazan screams at an opponent
    - a Brazilian coach complains a call
    - Cuba makes a hitting error
    - Hugh McCutcheon gives an inspirational message in a timeout

There would be quite a few more alcoholics in the world if this drinking game were to happen

Gamova ? shut the fuck up , not even close to be queen. only her high that makes her can stand in world volleyball , Spiking is not everything .

That's totally not true. When you watch Gamova you will notice that it's not only about height, she has excellent technical skills in all elements, even in defense!
Another thing I admire about her is how she has evolved together with volleyball. Who would have imagined her hitting quick pipe attacks 10 years ago? Now she does that all the time and very well too...

  • There is too much corruption on every level of organization of volleyball in FIVB and CEV and that is the main reason the sport to be unpopular - changing competition rules every year, ridiculous ordering of teams in groups and streams so the weaker teams or the rich teams to have advantage, tolerating playing to lose, working to get maximum money from federations instead from the public.

Female volleyball players in general have no hitting technique and the lack of physical strength in spiking makes so much long rallies that is like a school "pass the ball" game.

Muserskiy and Pavlov should be in Ukraine NT which should rival Russia and Brazil.

A big and unstoppable in attack MB can make almost any team gold medalist.

Ukraine inherited an excellent school of youth volleyball but it is much weaker on the adult level. That is, Dima and Kolya probably would have not achieved these heights, had they stayed Ukrainian. Looking at things from a wider perspective, I guess everybody knows that Ukraine is not an established nation, so the question of patriotism is more flexible in there. Furthermore, the vast majority of "Ukrainian" Russians are ethnically Russian. I remember you could read Russian? This is in Ukrainian but may still be readable (take a look what they say re national question, the paragraphs starting with "Національне питання"):

The author of this blog sounds a right-wing Ukrainian, so the whole post is seriously biased towards Ukraine.

    E.g. Simon :)

  • There must be something between Micelli and Usic.

Maybe I'm not the only guy assuming this.

I don't really understand people who love Asian volleyball.

It's a matter of your taste, but asian volleyball is definitely not my thing. Of course they are all good defensers and diggers but to me, the joy of volleyball is hitting thorough the high-blocks. once again, It's a matter of a taste...not saying your taste is weird.

    Neslihan, Skowronska the best OPPs?

I like them as players but It gets to me a lot whenever seeing some fans (generally from Turkey and Poland) making them too much overrated. They're obviously good players and perhaps two of the bests in Europe but there are better ones. However I completely can understand why they are served as queens in their home. they're the most well-loved volleyball stars, so.

    Bahar the best Turkish MB?

Well yeah, she's an okay player but to be completely honest she's not enough to be named as the best MB in Turkey. I think she's a bit overrated as well. perhaps it's because turkey doesn't have strong MB line-ups like Serbia, Germany, Italy but to me the best turkish MB is still Eda.

    Ah, got it. Thanks.

Where are all these people who want to play, maybe someday I'll meet them

  • Count me in!

Here's one of my own: Polish fans are NOT the best in the world.

  • You can't deny the right of identification to any nation. Macedonian nation for example was created by order of Stalin in 1943, but it is still recognized and accepted globally. If Ukrainians want to be free, no one can make them slaves or change their nationality.

About MB's - I meant also Muserskiy. He is half of the Russian team for me, the player that makes them invincible.

  • Giba was always overrated.

  • Giba did a lot in defense and covering the area for reception

  • Kim Glass is THE hottest volleyball player alive, I am confused she is not crushing the others in Miss InsideVolley topic

I think the same about Nesovic and Skowronska. And just talking about how hot a player could be: Sieczka and Thaisa drive me crazy!
