Volleyball Scandals in Brazil

  • I dont know if you guys checked already in Brazilian League threat, cause NobodyKnows already wrote a bit about it there. But as its an important matter envolving FIVB president and his men's..I think we should open a specific thread about it.

CBV is under investigations here in Brazil regarding contracts with sponsors that gives priviledges to companies in name of CBV big guys.

Ill copy here what NobodyKnows wrote..cause give s a good intro of the problem.. I hope you dont mind. ;)

    1) CVB and Ary Graça
The issue involving CBV came out when José Cruz, UOL's blogger, decided to publish a post about behind scenes in the new management of CBV on 30th January. According to him, the acting president Walter Pitombo found a suspicious documentation that could imply Ary Graça to be on the take of suspicious activities and that he intends to go about it.

On 24th February, ESPN's journalist Lúcio Castro started out to write the series Dossiê Vôlei in order to clear it up. This is the result of his own investigation.
According to this, CBV has been signing contracts with private enterprises that the owners are CBV's members themselves. A way of making volleyball money going to their own pockets.
As a matter of fact, CBV has signed a R$ 10 millions contract in 2012 with SMP as a payment on the negotiations with Banco do Brasil, a historical sponsor. The SMP's owner is CBV's CEO from 1997 to 2000 and then from 2013 till February 27th Marcos Pina. The point is, why they need to pay out R$ 10 millions to an intermediary in order to make a deal with a long-term sponsor (since 1991) and then to administer that, when they can do it by themselves without paying nothing for this? Further, Banco do Brasil denies the mediator. They said they signed a contract directly with CBV. The latter also told TV Globo that negociations with the bank were always made directly with them which means at any time SMP took part at it and was earning so much money for doing nothing.
In his own defence, Marcos Pina alleges the contract is legal and was made before he took over CBV's administration.
He is no longer CBV's chief executive officer since this report came out.

UOL's blogger Juca Kfouri remembered a similar case happened in 1997. At that time, CBV also paid 40% from a contract with Banco do Brasil to Sportsmedia, an enterprise with an affiliate in Uruguay. One of the stakeholders was Leonardo Grynner, ex-chief of sports at Globo who negociates volleyball broadcasting in Brazil with CBV.

    Continium...

A second scandal came out involving Fábio André Dias Azevedo. Acording to this new scandal. Two contracts of 10 million reais were signed from CBV to this company "S4G Gestão de Negócios", to pay services to CBV. The owner of the company is exacly Fábio, a man of trust from Ary GRaça and that is a General Director from FIVB.

You can read all reports in this two articles.

  • Specially Murilo and Gustavo have been really outspoken about the hole situation...of course complaining about all this!

Unfortunatelly I dont see much more responsing from the other athletes and people in volleyball family. It was time for everyone to be really frustrated...but I dont know how are everyone conections with Ary Graça of course.

  • I think it is a good decision to dismiss Marcos Pina.

If turns out Ary Graca is involved in both scandals, he should be dismissed by FIVB Executive Board.

  • Acording to journalist Erich Beting, Bernardinho is the one helping the investigations regarding CBV and using his contacts to make changes in order to remove the ones involved in the scandals from CBV border. :super:

  • Thank you for keeping us updated, Joana

This is, in deed, very interesting. especially with regard to the FIVB. It looks like Pandora`s box has finally been opened.

May be the journalists could have a closer look to FIvB as well. For sure, there would be a lot to unveil as well.

  • I was right when I supported the American candidate for FIVB post, this corruption just doesn't end, no wonder Lazarov is still on top in Bulgaria, with the glorious examples from CEV and FIVB. No wonder the sport is not so popular as before.

  • The third article of the series 'Dossiê Vôlei' was about how costs with marketing payments raised 2,241% from 2008 to 2012 while CBV incomes just raised 145%.

It is even more strange if we think that..well, last be honest...marketing is not really some "strong" in volleyball...

And that you don't need to pay out an intermediary company created in 2012, when Banco do Brasil is your sponsor since 1991.

I don't know if you already read this, jo: http://blogdojuca.uol.com.br/2…asil-e-o-volei-no-brasil/
It's the outcome of a similar case in 1997. It's hard to be positive about the future of this, when there're politicians on their side.

This is an interview with Bebeto de Freitas: http://blogdojuca.uol.com.br/2014/03/ary-desgraca/
Maybe he was the only one to talk about CBV openly in years.
It's like 90% what I think about CBV volleyball policy and he was saying that like 17 years ago.

Indeed. Well..but who ever follow a little bit more volleyball in Brazil closelly knows CBV was never this perfect Federation as Ary Graça tried to present to the "soccer" press kind of journalists.

CBV did a good job with National Teams in recent years...true....but only cause they always had a big amount of money from sponsors...and because we have Bernardinho and Zé Roberto...that is the true.

When comes to CBV as a confederation....they are a joke....Superliga is an example for it....even if volleyball is so popular here...we could never have stability...the clubs get no advantages from the league...lacks organization...and so on (not to say wrose about them here)..hehehe

It was about time to some of this to come out.....and tell you more..if any journalist dig deeper on this histories....well...

  • An Austrian newspaper is writing about the scandal as well.
    http://www.wienerzeitung.at/na…sier-mit-Sprengkraft.html

More or less, the article is describing, what Joanna and Nobodyknows already wrote here. Furthermore, the author is speculating about possible impacts for Olympic Games preparations.

  • Olá dear Brasilieros!

Are there any news on this subject? It has become calm and I am really curious.......

  • World of volley is reporting about a potential trial against Bernardo Rezende.

    http://www.worldofvolley.com/N…ded-rezende-on-trial.html

I decided to put it in this thread, as this seems to be part of the personal fight between Bernadinho and Graca/FIVB.

While you might discuss some of Rezende's statements and actions during Wch, the following quote is quite shocking, to be honest:

The statute and the code of FIVB are clear. You can’t speak under any circumstances against FIVB, especially in public.
Right now we are collecting evidences and after that, he will be prosecuted
    ."
