Havana, 31 mar (EFE) .- The Cuban volleyball player Michael Sanchez travels to Ecuador today, together with the other members of the preselecting your country to participate in preparing the team for the World League, after recovering from fracture of two vertebrae, the local press reported today.
Just over a year after the doctors ruled that Michael Sanchez, probably the most talented Cuban volleyball projection could not return to play for an injury suffered in the Pan American Games in Brazil in July 2007, 'Russian' , as he is known on the island, begins to see the output at the end of the tunnel.
The newspaper Granma, official voice of the Communist Party of Cuba, reported today that Sanchez, 23, will be part of the issuance of the 16 players who technically Cuban Orlando Samuels takes Ecuador.
The commissioner volleyball, Raúl Diago, told this newspaper that the recovery process has been carried Sánchez slowly and carefully, and has been monitored by doctors in the pre-Cuban.
After injury in Brazil, Sanchez had to be part of a double fracture of the fourth and fifth lumbar vertebrae in the region, forcing him to remain immobilized in a plaster cast two and a half months, and follow a rigorous treatment in the orthopedic hospital 'Frank Country 'in Havana.
The specialists noted in February last year that the analysis followed that "the fracture is not consolidated and thus there is instability in the lumbo-sacral spine and out his return to the courts.
Despite the blow to the Cuban volleyball world to see Sanchez, artillero second maximum of the World League in 2007, saw his career cut short, the recovery work continued and the Russian is ready to be tested in Ecuador and whether they can form part of the cast in the next edition of the competition.
Cuba will remain in Ecuador for 21 days and then moved to Argentina to participate in a national tournament with the cast in this country and compete in several friendlies.
The selection returns to West Island on June 6 to debut in the World League after six days in Havana before the team of Bulgaria in the group C of the competition, which also prohibit Japan and Russia.

  • I'm really glad that Sanchez is back! His absence was really critical to Cuba's failure of Beijing Olympics qualification.

Can somebody tell us how Sanchez was injured so severely?

Also, is this squad final? I can't see the 207cm-tall setter, Oriol Camejo, on the list. Also, the another Sanchez who played in World League last year, Y. Sanchez, is also missing!

  • Yeah what happened to Jurquin? That dude was incredible in the matches I saw.
