I honestly don't know what to think about this transfer. I am afraid I am not entirely enthusiastic about it, although I saw it coming sooner or later. I just hoped it would've happened in a year or two. Let me clarify why.
On one side, Chernokozhev's improvement in the last 2 seasons is visible and it was logical for him to yearn for competitive volleyball outside Bulgaria, let alone earning some money. Perugia is a great place to play, relatively regular European Cups participant and 2016-2017 Champions League member. Besides, practices and professional life in Italy are good even nowadays. I have no worries regarding that perspective. However, he has only had one season as a reliable full-time opposite (neglect his "epopee" alongside a rejuvenated Levski squad 2 years ago) and yet he jumps for the first opportunity he receives. I understand his desire and even if I remember the proverb about the bird and the shoulder, I am sure he could've gotten such offers even later in his career. The most worrisome aspect for me - Zaytsev's recruitment. Guess whom head coach Kovac is going to rotate from the OH position back to opposite in case Atanasijevic wears off. Dobromir Dimitrov's season was very similar, but at least he was Perugia's second setter without an alternative. I am afraid Chernokozhev might become the third choice. To me, this is surely not the best time for a young opposite to go to Perugia but we'll see about that.
Yes, I know, I was also worried about Penchev going to Rzeszow but at least he had gained some experience abroad before that.
