Pre Season World Club Volleyball Rankings

  • Hello all,

I thought it would be cool to compile a NCAA College Basketball-like Pre-Season
Power Ranking of the top 20 Volleyball Clubs around the world. My list will be
based on the rosters as of today, though forthcoming transfers, of course, may
slightly alter it. Please comment and let me know what you all think!

I was going to post it on here but it is too long, so just click the link to my blog.

  • I didnt think that Sada Cruzeiro do not deserv a placa among the "top" teams.

I see Halkbank Ankara still better than Arkas.

  • TheDiplomat good preview but IMO u missed a few things.

Regarding Paris Volley there are a lot of questions around them. This is totally new team which can be a serious problem for coach Rougeyron. Sens and Paese are newcomers in French volley which is totally different if you compare it with Polish, Italian or Russian league. Technique, monster defense and good reception are key factors in France, strenght doesn't play big role in matches and many halls are quite small, therefore it's hard to play there. Gergye isn't type of player like Ivović, Hoag or Bahov, he had too much ups&downs during last season in Beauvais and a lot of things will depend on Brazilian duo Sens-Paese which are unfamiliar with conditions in Ligue A. Pinheiro didn't have the best season in Noliko, Koga is defensive specialist but in general some other teams are looking better than Paris.

It's wrong to look Tours through Heynen's department for several reasons. The first and the most important is that Belgium coach was only a temporary solution. Heynen helped them a lot in critical moments but in general he didn't achieve anything. They lost in Cup and championship SF's and the last one was really painful for them as Paris swept them in Robert Grenon. All in all Heynen's departure isn't a loss at all. Regarding roster only important player they lost is David Smith. Jaumel had a horrible season and despite having valid contract director Foussard got rid of him. It says a lot. Čupković have had few flashes, nothing more. Bartoš, Strugar, Castard and others were backup players. It's hard to say for what they are capable but axis Hernan-Konečny (if he is healthy) looks better than Paris's Pinheiro-Paese.

SKRA is way behind ZAKSA and Resovia, quality gap was never bigger and seems they aren't thinking about trophies this season. Simply they can't and Blain is building team for season 2017/2018.

Regarding Turkish teams u must take foreign players limit into consideration (3 on field in the same time). IBB can play with French trio but Antanovich and Price can't play in that case. Same goes for Arkas and Halkbank. You forgot on Ziraat, even Maliye Mili Piyango can be dangerous.

Zenit with addition of Zemchenok and Volvich is the best team in the world. No discussion about that. Dynamo Moscow looks stonger than last season as Zaytsev never used to play in Russia. Bakun is a monster, Kruglov is there as well along Biryukov, Ilynikh, Berezhko. Don't worry about their middles, Shcherbinin and Filippov are capable to outblock any team. They signed Ostapenko even though Holt is a big loss.

  • "Modena added a good young setter (Orduna)" He is 33 at the end of August :teach:

  • While one might disagree on details, i think this is a great piece of work, which gives a great overview on what happened in the clubs all around the world. In the end the actual ranking depends on personal preferences as well.

Overall, this really makes me looking forward to this year's club season. :super:

  • Skra hás a good team and can win National championship. Because they have a good setter and the best duo of MB, besides hás now Mariusz and Luburic in opp position and a binch of good players in OH position. Only líbero position seems weak...

I agree with Kaziyski and would put them some positions higher in the ranking. Last year, especially in CL and CEV, they suffered from the meldonium saga and the political issues between Turkey and Russia. If nothing new pops up "off court", they should do better than last year.

  • Nice article, congratulations :obey:

In my opinion you are all overrating Perugia too much. Zaystev as OH is a normal player, and the injury by Atanasjevic is quite serious, we don't know if he will need one season (like Mikhaylov or Sokolov) to come back to a good level

Per un pir, un pam un persec per na brogna e na rumleina, nuetr'a sam d'la Ghirlandeina nuetr'a sam da rispeter
