2017 - 2018 transfer news

  • I just wish Gavin Schmitt no more injuries. But in Japan they will rely so much on him, and that could end up causing him some kind of injury. But he knows what he is doing....

  • Toray probably want a strong opposite for AVC Club Championship. It's a short tournament so Gavin might be able to come up great without too much stress on his body.

Favorite players: M: Maxim Mikhaylov, Murilo, Serginho, Aaron Russell, Otavio, Simone Giannelli, Ivan Zaytsev, Tsvetan Sokolov, Michał Kubiak, Mariusz Wlazly, Pawel Zagummy W: Sheilla, Zhu Ting, Natalia, Fe Garay, Fofao, Gabi, Thaisa, Foluke Akinradewo, Wei Qiuyue, Ding Xia, Carli Lloyd, Fabi, Natalia Goncharova, Yuko Sano, Saoris Kimura and Sakoda

  • HE signed for entire season not only for AVC CC :wavy:

I know but I think if Toray wants a chance to play in CWC then Gavin is probably their best bet. I just wonder if Gavin is physically ready in time for the qualification tournament in June.

  • This now raises the question of where Nikola Gjorgiev will play in 2017/18. He was fantastic this past year, leading Toray to Championship. Maybe a team like Piacenza with the void left by Hernandez's departure, Or Kuzbass if Polateav returns to Zenit next year, or a Tours to replace Konecny? Lets of teams should look at him.

  • Andrea Giani's first signing in Revivre Milano for the next season is Taylor Averill (US, MB, 25-year-old, 201 cm, Kioene Padova). Which leads me to an interesting question. Are there no relegation spots in the Italian league this season? Milano finished at the bottom of the table and should, theoretically speaking, relegate. I doubt Giani would've taken over a relegated team and that Averill would've left Padova in this case. I guess it is a closed league model now but how does it work exactly with the play-offs in the second division?

  • In fact Dutch OPP Nimir Abdelaziz is first transfer for Giani as Nimir joins Revivre Milano so obviously they aren't relegated :D

It hasn't been announced officially, as far as I know. Milano's webpage claims Averill is the first new signing, that's why, there is nothing about the Dutchman. I heard about Abdel-Aziz. It is probably a matter of timing.

  • after Paweł Zagumny (S) and Piotr Gacek (L), now Michał Winiarski (OH) announced retirement:

Yeah, also last year it was the same (I don't remember about two years ago).
Actually, it's not that clear how it works (at least to me, but I think in general).
For sure one team from A2 will have the qualification by winning A2 play off (last year it was Sora).
Last year also Vibo (second qualified) asked for a spot in A1 and it was granted, since there were 'only' 13 teams in Superlega and it would have forced one team for turn to rest.

This year will we have a 15 teams Superlega? Who knows!

Theoretically, the limits for being in Superlega is – among others – playing in a 3000 people arena (at least), and who had a smaller arena had until this season to find a solution or quit.
At the moment Latina, Vibo, Molfetta, and Sora haven't accomplish that, and in fact there are a lot of discussion in the Lega about giving them other time or not.

These are only (strong) rumors, though. That's why I didn't mentioned it. But I forgot my intention to write that down in the rumors discussion ;)
Actually, reading it a second time may be the first one isn't only a rumor!

  • Rapha (S), Lucarelli (OH), Otávio (MB) and Mário Jr. (L) are all staying in Funvic/Taubaté next season. Wallace (OPP) also has another year in his contract. Source

So no Italy for Lucarelli it seems.

  • That's a pity, he would have been the perfect OH for Modena :(
Is it possible that this means they need an italian OH?
He would have been perfect also for Trento, but I didn't hope that much.

  • we can finally say goodbye to Andrzej Kowal :wavy:  so Serniotti as head coach in Resovia may be true
