The World Rankings

  • Strange, the famale italian NT is only one place over the male NT whereas in the last 4 years only the female won medals...

It seems to me that for the achievment of Italian male NT of the past 4 years the 4th place is too much.

Italy has had at least 8 wins in the Group Stage of the World League in the last 4 years. These matches are against International competition, so your match has a higher multiplier (continent strength x continent strength). I do not have a match multiplier (Group Stage vs. Final Round, it got too complicated when I tried to create it).

Italy won 5 matches in European Championship Qualification.

Italy was 4th at the World Championships and had 7 wins.

The matches that they have won in the last 2 years (2010 and 2011) are the main reason they are so high.

  • Ok, thanks for explanation. I thought your ranking was based on the final rank/position in each competition, not also on the match results.

That's why I thought it was strange that Italy was 4th, when the higher position they reach in the past 4 years is the 4th place (and more often they got lower position than 4th).

My ranking system is based on set wins, points ratio and regional strength (for international matches).

A team that wins 3 sets is given three points to start, take the points ratio and subtract 1 (except if a team wins by 25 points or more add 1 + 3 = 4), then multiply by the region's strength (if playing internationally, but within a region say Europe, Asia, NORCECA, African or South American Championship =1), then multiply by the opponents ranking (((201-rank)/100), it stops at 1.00).

The most points you can get within a regional championship match is 7 pts.
The most points you can get within an international tournament is match 14 pts.

The least points you can get is 0 in any match (no set wins).

The Brazilian men and women win so many matches, it is hard to catch them!!

When Niemczyk was coach female NT was at 8th or 9th position, never 6th. He just don't remember it good.I don't know is it possibility to check old ranking, but somebody, right here, did it few years ago and showed female ranking after 2007 World Cup.
