Germany - Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL) 2016/17

  • Friedrichshafen won clearly 3:0 (16, 20, 21). Both teams weren't any good but F'hafen at least managed to keep their errors low.

Berlin was really a big mess today, whereas Friedrichshafen was already playing "Heynen-style". A low error rate and a good organisation was enough to dominate Berlin today. Really still a lot of work for Serniotti. Especially Zhukouski, Schott and Carroll need to improve :teach:

  • Who was elected MVP?

    Ruben Schott, no joke.....
VBL designed an app, especially for the Supercup. People could vote the MVP via the app. Ruben obviously has some "die hard" fans 8)

  • I edited the first post of the thread and added some links. Stats section isn't linked yet. I do hope VBL maintains last years service.....

  • It's definite that Westphal is abroad. For several reasons I guess France. But no confirmation yet.

It is going to be Iran (Shardari Tabriz).

There are good news for Berlin. Steven Marshall's injury wasn't as severe as initially thought. He might join the team still this week.

  • After a faaaar too long break, the Bundesliga finally will start on Saturday with the following matches:

    19.00 CET Herrsching vs. Netzhoppers
    19.00 CET Bühl vs. Berlin
19.30 CET Düren vs. United Volleys
    19.30 CET Friedrichshafen vs. Rottenburg
    20.00 CET Lüneburg vs. Solingen

All matches will be streamed as one-camera-production on http://www.vbl.tv

Difficult start of the season for Berlin with a match against the, on paper, most improved team of the league. i am curious as well, on how Düren will perform vs. United Volleys.

For the fun, here is my pick for the ranking after main round:

    1. BR Volleys
    2. VfB Friedrichshafen
    3. United Volleys RheinMain
    4. Ingersoll Bühl
    5. Düren
    6. Lüneburg
    7. Herrsching
    8. Netzhoppers
    9. Rottenburg
    10. Solingen
    11. VCO Berlin

If a further reasoning is requested or if there are other opinions or questions, just write it down. I would truly enjoy some more traffic in this thread. :drink:

All matches endeed 3:0 for the favourites. I hoped for some tighter matches, especially in Düren and Bühl. (Some stats sheets are not available yet...)

    Some remarks:

    • Heynen only kept the MBs from the Supercup match and changed every other position. Still complete domination of Rottenburg. Tim Grozer (18 years), younger brother of Georg, with his Bundesliga debut.
    • Kromm and Carroll with good performances for Berlin. Kühner took over from Zhukouski and Kovacevic entered the court for Ruben Schott. Overall, a good comeback for them after disappointing Supercup match.
    • Herrsching with 74 % overall attack efficiency against Netzhoppers :!:
    • Solingen could keep it very tight for two sets against Lüneburg
  • Herrsching with 74 % overall attack efficiency against Netzhoppers :!:

I was there. I never thought that Herrsching could smash Netzhoppers that bad.
But Netzhoppers also were really helpless.
The only light in the dark was Gavenda (SVK, opposite) who was used by the setter far too few times.
No sight of Andrae (only 6 points).

    Greets.

  • Watched parts of the first leg matches in Bühl and Lüneburg. Lüneburg vs. Solingen was very far from any high level. Solingen played solid for two sets and Lüneburg was extremely lucky, especially in the first set. After Eric Fitterer came in he seriously improved Lüneburg's game, mainly with good impact serves.

Bühl didn't look that bad against Berlin, they just messed up the end game of first two sets. Once Finoli finds better connection with his OHs (Zhilin/Zappoli) they will be a good team, i presume.

Today and tomorrow, round of 16 in german cup will be played. The "match of the round" will be played tomorrow (Berlin vs. United Volleys, 19.30 CET ).

  • BR Volleys vs. United Volley RheinMain 3:1 (21:25, 25:22, 25:22, 29:27)
    stats: http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Men/&7107.pdf
    MVP: Carroll / Reichert

Good and even match, which could have ended 3:1 for United Volleys as well. United played with a young receiving line (Aciobanitei/Reichert) and paid the price for it when the guys paniced a bit in the end of 3rd and 4th set. But overall, they didn't do bad, especially Aciobanitei showed some good things.
For Berlin, Kovacevic started but got subbed early for Marshall, who had a difficult start but improved later in the game.

Good description, but United has a young team overall. So they will always have a "young receiving line". I think it will pay off later.
Your ranking after preliminary round may easily look like:

    1. VfB Friedrichshafen
    2. United Volleys RheinMain
    3. BR Volleys
    4. Düren
    5. Ingersoll Bühl

Friedrichshafen at the moment looks stronger that expected to me, the opposite for Berlin.
Once Friedrichshafen and Berlin will be engaged in CL, the definitely will lose points somewhere.

    Greets.

  • Friedrichshafen at the moment looks stronger that expected to me....

Great victory for Düren against Friedrichshafen. Only watched the first set but i have to say that it was really good to watch. Nice rallies, good liberos and setters and everyone on the court knew how to handle to the ball  I hope Düren can keep this level, so we would have at least four good teams in the league.

Very good performances as well by the youngest players at United Volleys' victory over Bühl. Aciobanitei (19 years). Reichert (20 years) and Tobias Krick (18 years) have really improved compared to last year and make their team much less predictable and dependant on Christian Dünnes.

For Lüneburg it was the same old story, whenever they play in Berlin. They just can't win close sets/matches, even if their lives depended on this. Somehow disappointing but still they did better than i expected.

  • This Weekend
    Rottenburg
    Berlin
    Friedrichshafen
    Zolinger
    Dulen

Rottenburg winning in Bühl and Solingen winning against United volleys are brave calls, especially the latter. But we will see....

    Saturday, 5th November
    19.00 Bühl vs. Rottenburg
    19.00 Herrsching vs. Berlin
    19.30 Friedrichshafen vs. Lüneburg

    Sunday, 6th November
    16.00 Netzhoppers vs. Düren
    16.00 Solingen vs. United Volleys

Good news of the day: The stats section is online. Like last year, you can switch between Individual and Team rankings. I really like how VBL presents the stats and it is really good fun to play around with all the options

    Tonight, 19.30 CET
    Berlin vs. Lüneburg, stream: http://sportdeutschland.tv/vbl…-volleys-vs-svg-lueneburg

Nice surprise by Herrsching in Düren, i know a happy user on here. Congrats Bayer

The draw for the semis was already effected yesterday. ( Herrsching vs. Berlin/Lüneburg, Netzhoppers vs. Friedrichshafen) Due to the small size and height of their hall, Herrsching won't be allowed to play in their own gym. So it is still completely open, where they will play their semi-final.
