South Asian Games 2016 - India

  • Afghanistan came close to a historic win at the 12th South Asian Games, but fell to Bangladesh 3-2 (25-12, 20-25, 21-25, 31-29, 15-13) as the men's competition got underway in Guwahati.


    In other opening day men's results, Pakistan downed the Maldives 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-20) and Sri Lanka shut out Nepal 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-10).

  • India and Sri Lanka secured tickets to the semifinals after the hosts scored a 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-16) win over Nepal.
    It was Nepal's second defeat in the three-team Pool A. India and Sri Lanka will fight it out between them for first place in the pool tomorrow.


    Pakistan claimed a berth in the men's semifinals after defeating Afghanistan 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-13) to remain undefeated in Pool B.
    In other Pool B action Saturday, the Maldives shut out Bangladesh 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-23).


    Pakistan join India and Sri Lanka, who had secured their own semifinals tickets from Pool A.
    The last remaining spot will be decided on Sunday, when the Maldives play Afghanistan and Pakistan meet Bangladesh.

  • Pool A
    Pakistan remained undefeated and topped the standings in Pool B after beating Bangladesh 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-20, 27-25).
    Pakistan are joined in the semifinals by the Maldives, who took a point from Afghanistan in their 3-2 (25-19, 18-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-12) win to finish second in Pool B.

    Hosts India shut out Sri Lanka 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-19) to wrap up pool play at the 12th South Asian Games in Guwahati and complete the programme for Monday's semifinals:

    Sri Lanka - Pakistan 3-1 (17-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-20)
    India - Maldives 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-19)


    Pakistan, silver medallists the last time around, in 2010 in Dhaka, will now play for bronze against the Maldives. In the final India will be defending their title from 2010.
