  • Watch out for the first qualifier in Denmark via special Facebook account
The 2010 CEV Junior European Championships will celebrate their real opening this coming weekend with a first qualifier to be staged in Holte, Denmark. The hosts will try to notch a spot for the 2nd Qualification Round slated for early April as they test out the likes of England and Norway, whereas the local girls will find in the Azerbaijani youngsters quite a strong contender along their way on home soil.
The Danish Volleyball Federation is currently fine tuning the preparations for this event and in the meantime already created a special account on Facebook (see here) to promote the tournament and recruit potential spectators among the many users of that well-known social network.
Moreover, apart from the live scoring available on the CEV website, the Danish Federation will provide a live streaming of all matches (final link will follow soon).

In the third and final match of the men’s tournament, Denmark played the reigning NEVZA champions from Norway. Both teams had previously beaten England 3:0, so the winner of today’s match was going to secure a spot for the second round of the Championship. In the first set the Norwegian team put up a very impressive performance in block and defense, so the Danes had big problems in scoring points. The impressive play of Norwegian setter Jonas Kvalen gave his fellows many good attacking situations. The set ended with a win for Norway at 25-15. From the beginning of the second set Denmark lined-up setter Necdet Nahiner who burst some energy into the Danish team and the match was very equal up to 20:20. From there on the Norwegian boys showed great skills in all aspects of the game and could close the set 25-21. The third set was a repetition of the previous one. The two teams were very close up till the end of the set. From there on Norway showed some high class actions and could again close the set at 25-20. The result means that Norway wins the first round and goes on to the second qualification step scheduled for early April. Denmark takes the second place and England finishes third. A big crowd of spectators followed today’s matches in Holte and they had a fantastic experience with good volleyball in perfect surroundings.

  • Polish team traveled to Montenegro without 3 regulars players: Kaczmarek, Buchowski and Hain. Italy has really weak this generation, but with Polish absences today will be played very tight game. Seems like Spain with "kangaroo" Ruiz will have biggest advantage cause of that situation.

Group in Portugal is very weak, neither of 6 teams was part of last year EC of this generation, and level of volley is really low, according to stats available on cev.lu official site

Bulgaria from group A, Serbia and Belgium from group D and Spain are best teams in this qualis and should advance with no problem on final tournament. Poland if full would also but now will be interesting how will they cope with challenges....

  • Some of the Bulgarian players are in the men's teams in the league. Nikolay Penchev has the best serve in Bulgarian championship (Better than Kaziyski at the same age probably), Ragin is one of the best young players in the championship...

Serbia will always have stable teams with well cooperating good players. They don't get players like Miljikovich and Grbich that often, but they use them 100%

I hear only good things about Belgian volleyball lately :)

  • Serbian team is doing great for now (beat Belgians-biggest rivals in group) and I don't have any doubts in this generation, because they are the best generation of young players in Serbia in the last (at least) 20 years :)) Don't forget that these guys were last year World champions in youth category :))
Atanasijevic and Kovacevic are future stars, especially Atanasijevic as a true lider on court :)) It's interesting that our libero- Koprivica is 2m tall  New position for him,but he's doing just great :)))
In group B- I'm cheering for Italian team...they have good team, but they are just without selfconfidance... They played 3 friendly matches against Serbia in Belgrade week ago and they won just 1 set... [MSIE_newline_end ]

  • Bulgarian attack and block vs Slovenian defense - http://www.cev.lu/mmp-cgi/show…ate=p_prj_game_stat&key=0

  • We (I mean Bulgaria) are doing pretty good job. Latvia today and Slovakia at the last game shouldn't be a big problem, i expect 5/5 from our team. 3/3 up to now :)

In this group only serious game for Bulgaria was first game vs Holland. Others are not serious teams to be proud of wining them or celebrate...That was also revenge for big shame they did (in fact just normal for that age :S )on youth EC 2009 when they had all in their hands in game for 5th spot and qualification on youth WC and they had clear 2-0 and several MP and lost match and world championships. Very probably well known balcan mentality   Look the stats and set scores of that match, same lineups like today practically:

So now they got their revenge, cause they really are stronger than Holland and belong to top 5 of euro volley of this generation, but not top3 atm IMO. However, now they will have chance to correct their blow from youth EC last year. I'm eager to see how will it be ;)

where are Opacic and Rajkovic, is libero Koprivica player from C. Zvezda, plays as OH?

  • Curious to see who'll take the second spot behind Serbia in Pool D.
Both Belgium and Greece lost to Serbia in 5 sets and won all other games in straight sets, so I expect a tight game.

i really think there should be no surprise

    BELGIUM GREECE 3 : 0 (25:13 25:21 25:16)

Greece did develop in last year obviously, but Belgium has experience, Belgium has Sam Deroo and maybe it wont be clear 3-0 as upper result between these teams shows, played last year, with almost same rosters, but Belgium should win here. Although, it is the same to be 2nd or 3rd, only first place qualifying directly on EC, 2nd and 3rd only earn ticket for next round of qualification

Really easy 3-0 again  :teach: :win:

  • I think that Leon Wenero has a new rival on serve - Nikolay Penchev with 23 aces in 17 sets!

  • Really easy 3-0 again  :teach: :win:

    Pretty accurate predication, Raul!
Honestly, I expected a much tougher game, given Greece previous result in this tournament.
Looks like Belgim will face Italy (2nd pool B), Slovenia (3th pool A) and Estonia (3th pool C) in the next qualification round.

  • So, at the end, pretty much all best teams advanced, some who had easier groups will suffer in 3rd round of qualifications... Now it is known 8 out of 12 teams that will play EC in Belarus:

Belarus (host), France, Russia and Germany directly, Bulgaria, Poland(without 3 important players in qualis...), Turkey and Serbia as first places in group qualis.

8 teams will play for 4 remaining spots in EC, divided into 2 groups:

Group E: Holland, Ukraine, Spain and Greece
Group F: Italy, Belgium, Slovenia and Portugal

Holland, Spain, Italy and Belgium should advance. Portugal did more than they themselves expected, but in this group has no chances, also like Ukraine and Greece in other IMO. So if it happen so, we will have 11 out of 12 teams like on youth EC this generation, only Austria is replaced with Turkey which take advantage from nice and weak group C.

  • In group E competition is over
    M3E-01 08.07.2010 16:30 THE NETHERLANDS UKRAINE 3 : 1 25:10 17:25 25:22 25:14

    M3E-06 10.07.2010 19:00 SPAIN THE NETHERLANDS 3 : 0 25:19 25:12 25:20

As expected, Spain best there, these kids played first and second week in european league, big expirience for them, they will challenge everyone in EC. Holland advanced as 2nd.

    Group F:

    M3F-01 09.07.2010 17:00 BELGIUM SLOVENIA 3 : 0 27:25 25:23 25:22
    M3F-02 09.07.2010 19:30 PORTUGAL ITALY 0 : 3 14:25 14:25 20:25
    M3F-03 10.07.2010 17:00 BELGIUM PORTUGAL 3 : 0 25:14 25:16 25:12
    M3F-04 10.07.2010 19:30 ITALY SLOVENIA 3 : 1 23:25 25:21 25:16 25:21

As expected, Belgium and Italy did the job, today they play for 1st place, but irrelevant, they are qualified. All in all, 11 out of 12 teams are same like on last year EC. Will be nice volley in september :teach:
