Junior European Championship 2010

  • Hardly waiting for the first whistle in Belarus
2008 silver medalist Germany was the very first team to resume this morning to the majestic “Bobruisk Arena” for the start of the training sessions as the local organizers are speeding up and fine tuning their preparations for the opening of the 2010 CEV Junior European Championship – Men here in the Republic of Belarus. The young guys around coach Söhnke Hinz were certainly impressed by the imposing sports hall that will be hosting the prelims and final matches of this competition, a real premiere for international Volleyball in this neighborhood.
The official Opening Ceremony will be organized tomorrow in Bobruisk as well as in the second venue, Mogilev, right after the second matches on schedule. Mr. Boris Batura, President of the Belarusian Volleyball Federation, will join the CEV officials in Bobruisk and then resume to Mogilev on Sunday to support there the hosts in their quest for a spot among Europe’s best. Mr. Batura is actually not just a true Volleyball passionate, but also a high-ranked official here in Belarus, having been the Speaker of the Council of the Republic up to this past May before being appointed Governor of the Minsk Province.
Even though Bobruisk is totally new on the Volleyball map, still the city did recently host the U18 Ice Hockey World Championships and yesterday the local organizers proudly announced that they will retain some experiences taken from that event and so an orchestra will be playing the national anthems live for all games set to take place at the “Bobruisk Arena”.
As all delegations finally arrived in Bobruisk, quite a well-known and familiar face was to be seen in the lobby of the “Tourist” hotel: 1996 Olympic champion and former international star Ron Zwerver is indeed the head coach of the Dutch team that will open the competition on Saturday afternoon in a much awaited match against Germany scheduled for 3 pm (local time). We’ll try to have a short chat with him in the next few days, so stay tuned!

  • In an introductory article, the CEV website announces live coverage of the Bobruisk-pool on www.laola1.tv, but that's not wat I see announced on that site (only beach volleyball and FIVB World Grand Prix).

Who knows where we can watch the live stream?

I'm watching on http://www.bet-at-home.com, you only need to open account (for free) and then you can watch live videos (link under a "Get your bonus" banner). I don't know if it works in other countries, but I hope so.

  • After 3 days of competition, clear favourites are confirmed - Serbia and Russia

Teams that played semis of both EC and WC in this age 2009 should play finals here. European champions 2009 France is already out of contest, missing of best player in Europe in this age - Earvin N'Gapeth cant be replaced, they are without him out of top 6 here surely ...

Of other teams, Poland is inconsistent as afterall any team from that country, they lost (beat themselves) to Holland and now that can cost them of semis, although are better than oranjes for sure, but it is their problem... From other group battle for second place will be decided IMO in match Bulgaria-Spain, pretty even match but Spain has already one bad result, lost to France due to illness of best player F.Ruiz so they need to beat strong Bulgaria to remain in battle for semis.

Of remaining teams, Belgium can do some damage with their S.Deroo, Italy usually not it top with their young teams, Germany is big questionmark since this generation didnt compete in any big competition so far, and they took advantage of last German junior generation podium finish to be here, and Turkey and Belarus are weakest teams here, for them is great even to be here...

Looking forward to last 2 group days

  • Turkey is so bad. :S

I think your comment is pretty unfair, as i said it is big thing for turkish volley for this junior even to be here, on EC. it is success, why should they have some unrealistic results :what: ?(

Poland made final error, easy lost to Germany and good bye to medals fight (not theoretically but Russia is way above them really....) Very glad to see Belgium over Holland again, they deserved the win in such games.... However, Holland is in best position before tomorrow games, with expected easy victory over Turkey they will be in semis, IMO undeserved but medal they will never see :P :P

In group B Bulgaria and Spain as predicted playing for semifinal spot, they will have tough battle, as i recall in last match before additional qualis Spain won 3:2, 5setter easy possible even tomorrow. These 2 sets is enough for Bulgaria to advance to semis, even close 3:1 loss is enough for them, will have same set ratio but probably points ratio is much better...

  • Amazing Bulgaria !!! Good work boys . We want a gold medal . Spain - Bulgaria 0 : 3 (25:19, 25:22, 25:16) . And first place in the group , second for Serbia . I hope so that CEV will show a fairplay and will make a crosses semifinales . Bulgaria - Netherlands and Serbia- Russia .

CEV and fair play     :rolll: :rolll: :rolll: :rolll: :obey:

dont be so hillarious. On last junior ec they have drawn lots of second placed teams so semis was from same groups, i expect CEV in the meantime raised on higher level of stupidity and will draw all 4 teams without seedings, that would be just nice from them :P :obey: :obey: :obey: :obey:

Holland is intruder in semis, especially with injured setter which broke a finger. There are like 4-5 teams stronger than Holland (beside top 3 Bul, Rus and Serb) who just take advantage of huge unstability of other teams... Some other week they would finish group with score 0-5. But no one can take this semifinals from them now, just one team will have super easy job to enter the finals

  • Nice job by our Junior NT  I am very very happy with the first place, I guess everyone is :D Let's hope we show Europe now that it's not accidental, as the head coach Nikolay Zheliazkov said it's a result of a thorough analysis and hard work! We believe in this generation!!!

  • Semi Finals 1-4 in Bobruisk (BLR)

    04.09.2010 17:00 RUSSIA SERBIA
    04.09.2010 19:30 BULGARIA THE NETHERLANDS

At the end, brain prevailed, and it is played with normal system. Bulgaria is IMO already in finals, cause playing vs maybe weakest team in top8, who on some crazy luck made to the semis. Additional, without 1st setter, vs Bulgaria will hardly take a single set.

Second match is predicted finals, but Serbia blown vs weak Italy yesterday, but seems to be not so stable this tournament. Last year played on both big competitions, on EC Russia won 3-1, on WC Serbia won 3-0. Will be hell of the match..

  • No surprise today, 2x 3-0 for big finals tomorrow:

    RUSSIA
    SERBIA 3 : 0 (27:25 25:20 25:20)
    BULGARIA THE NETHERLANDS 3 : 0 (29:27 26:24 25:20)

Russia enters finals as favourite, most convincing play here + clear 3:1 win vs Bul same teams in quaters of youth EC...

For bronze playing Serbia-Holland, if Atanasijevic will be fit bronze goes to Serbia...

    for 5th place Spain-Germany
    for 7th place Belgium-Italy

  • Good work bulgarian boys . I'm very surpised from amazing performance .Yes we lost our possibility to became european champions but the silver medale is also fantastic succes for these boys . They had a great future .
