The African Youth Volleyball Championships kicked off Sunday (January 22th) in Algeria. 10 Cadet squads from Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, South Africa, Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Sierra Leone, DR Congo and the host country are participating in the Setif event, which runs through February 1st.

Finally, only 4 teams will attend this competition!! (Algeria, Egypt, Rwanda and Tunisia)

Dates confirmed for Boys' Under 19 African Nations Youth Championship

Tunisia boys team the defending champions of the Youth African Nations Championsip
Cairo, Egypt, December 20, 2012 – The dates for the Under 19 African Nations Youth Championship have been set for January 22 to 31, 2013 by hosts, Algeria. The matches will take place at the Harsha Hacene Hall in Setif, Algeria next month. To participate in the competition players must be born on or after, January 1, 1995.

This is a qualifying event for the FIVB Boys' Under 19 World Championship that will be hosted in Mexicali and Tijuana, Mexico in 2013. The top four African countries in January’s competition will secure tickets to the prestigious FIVB event.

The competition will be the first under the new format of the age-group African Nations Championships set by the CAVB Sports Organising Commission at its meeting in Cairo, Egypt in November 2012. 12 teams will qualify from the zonal qualifications, in addition to the organiser and the top 3 teams of the last edition.

Drawing of lots for 2013 Boys’ Youth African Nations Championship sets Tunisia against Egypt in opener

Rwanda are the newcomers at this year's competition, coming in to face Tunisia, Egypt and Algeria

Setif, Algeria, January 22, 2013 – The drawing of lots for the 2013 Boys Youth African Nations Championship was held on Monday in Setif, Algeria. The four teams that came through the qualifications of their corresponding zones will participate in the round-robin tournament.

The competition acts as a qualifier for the FIVB Boys’ Youth African Nations Championship to be held later this year in Mexico.

Play starts on Tuesday, and the feature match will be between defending champions Tunisia and the runners-up, Egypt, at 15:00 local time in Setif Hall. Tunisia won the last competition in 2010 after beating Egypt 3-2 in a thrilling encounter.

The opening day will also have the hosts, Algeria, battling against newcomers Rwanda at 17:00.

Setif, Algeria, January 26, 2013- Egypt claimed the title of the twelfth Boys Youth African Nations Championship following their third in row victory over the dark horses Rwanda 3-0 (25-20, 25-13,25-22) in the third and last day of the competition held at Setif Hall in Algeria on Friday.

Tunisia ended their campaign with a considerable win against hosts Algeria 3-1 (18-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-23).

The victory improved Egyptian win- loss ratio to 3-0 to clinch their third victory in the history of the competition while Tunisia finished second with 2-1 ratio ahead of the third Rwanda (1-2) and the fourth Algeria (0-3).

The top four teams secured their tickets to the FIVB World Championship of this age category to be held in Mexico this summer.
