  • Giani: "I wanted to play again with my friends"
Gaston Giani returned to the country as reinforcement of UPCN becoming one of the main stars that returned to play the ACLAV A1 Men Teams Nativa Nacion League, that every day becomes more competitive. In this talk he mentions about the new National Men Team process, about his return and how his team is in this tournament.

Last weekend, in San Juan Province, a new "classical" match between the two San Juan teams that participate of the best Argentine Men Volleyball League faced each other, UPCN Voley Club and Obras de San Juan. The match had some good moments but it showed that both teams needed more concentration and there was some lack of technics on both sides of the net, due to the prior X-Mas Holidays.

The winner was the team coached by Fabian Armoa by a clear 3-1, and the best player, no doubt, was Giani, captain and star of the team.

–It was an important victory to keep among the top teams.
–Yes, to start the second round of the regular season with a victory and in a classical match is very important he said.

Why were you with your minds out of the match?
–Well, I think no one though on how we finished played last year but it is normal, we started training again last week. The team is not in good shape but slowly we will recover as we played before.

–Prior to the match you seemed very calm.
–No, never one can be calm and less with this teams that do not have anything to lose and play a lot against the candidate teams. We were not relaxed, we were tired.

–What do you think about the Argentine National Men Team?
–We are in a new process, I believe there are good ideas and I hope this project comes right for the good sake of Argentine Volleyball.

    –And about Javier Weber?
–I think he deserved a lot the place they gave him and he will do an outstanding job.

–About your return to Argentina after so many years leaving outside, why did you decide to return?
–I was somehow tired after so many years of playing outside Argentina. I wanted to play again with my friends, with people I know weel and over all to speak Spanish again (smiles).

–To speak the Turkish language is it hard?
–(smiles) Terrific, it is very hard.

–Are you already used to living in San Juan?
–Yes, everyone made me feel I am one more San Juan citizen, the welcome was great.

    –And about the girls?
–I prefer not to talk a lot about it (more smiles).

  • This is the Quarter-Finals Bracket for the A1 Men Teams League
The last date of the Regular Season, with difference to what many teams expected, did not change any ranking of the eight teams qualified for the Play-Offs of the ACLAV A1 Men Teams Nativa Nacion Card League that will start next Thursday. It also confirmed that Ciclista Olimpico lost the franchise returning to the A2 League and that Obras de San Juan will participate of the Play-Out Series.

All teams finished as they were ranked until last Tuesday even though many expected other results and changing their luck. Quarter-Finals will be played as follows: Drean Bolívar (1st) vs. Belgrano de Córdoba (8th), Gigantes del Sur (4th) vs. Chubut Volley (5th), UPCN Voley (3rd) vs. Entre Ríos Voley (6th) and La Unión de Formosa (2nd) vs. Mendoza Voley (7th).

The trully fact is that all crashes have three background matches during this season: two on the Regular Phase of the League and one at the Super 8 tournament, played at the end of the year 2008. But of all of them only one team could win the three matches between the teams that will face each other in Quarter-Finals: Drean Bolivar defeated on the three clashes Belgrano de Cordoba, team that did not win a single set on any of the 9 played.

The only true is that the eight teams qualified for the Play-Offs will start their way towards the title next Thursday. Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals will be played to the best of five matches (2-2-1) while the Final Series will be to the best of seven (2-2-1-1-1).

With reference to losing the franchise and the chance of playing next season A1 League, Ciclista Olimpico fought fiercly until the last ball but could not defeat Entre Rios Voley (1-3) and next season it will return to the A2 League. So, San Juan as some more fresh air and must win the Play-Out series, that will start March 24th against the second finalist of the A1 League, to the best of three matches to see if they maintain the category or not.
