  • Tours seems back to his golden period of few years ago...
i wonder if they can do the same in champions league, what do you think about this Armel?
do they have chances to come back to a final four?

With a bit of luck, that's a possibility, but I think the team is only aiming the playoff.
The game against Cannes was an IECL level game, but not an IECL-final 4 level game .

Tours has a very large team, especially with two great setters (Loïc Le Marrec and Loïc De Kergret) , and four good outside hitter (former french international Marc Schalk, Canadian international Alexandre Gaumont-Casias, and young french juniors Guillaume Quesque and Earvin Ngapeth) and also two liberos. This is allowing the coach a lot of possibilities.
The weakness of the team is the reception, because Gaumont-Casias and the two young outside hitters are sometimes lacking some consistency in receiving. But against Cannes, the coach tried for the first time to have Gaumont-Casias + his son Earvin on the court at the same time. Sure Loïc Le Marrec had to run a bit sometimes, but since they are both very powerful spikers, they created a lot of possibilities for him, along with opposite David Konecny. Alexandre and Earvin are also very good diggers (a bit like Tuomas Sammelvuo) and great servers and blockers so they somehow made-up for their miss in receiving.

And you can add to this two great czech middle blockers, Petr Konecny being the best blocker of the french league for many years and a very balanced middle blocker , and Ales Holubec , the two-times most efficient spiker of the Belgian league who was 11/14 in spiking against Cannes, for his first game as a starter with Tours.
Tours can really have 4 deadly spikers on court at the same time which is, I think, the first time.

Right now, the team need to improve in blocking-defending, and the setters still need to improve their relationship with some spikers, but the team is definitely fitted for the champion's league even if perhaps not playing the traditional french way with very good receivers.

  • wow De Kergret still plays there?? :cheesy:
i clearly remember Tours' roster of 2005, when they eliminated us in the 8th final of Champions League.
In that occasion we payed too much the absence of Anderson, our opposite, but what impressed me so much was the great job did by the middle blockers of the french team, and the fact that, as every french team, they difended every single ball. Plus, Nikolov was unstoppable...what a great team!
i think Tours and Copra were the 2 best teams in that champions league, a real pity that we faced each other so early, it would have been a great final.

  • The games against Piacenza were the toughest for Tours in 2005, and the best a team from Tours ever played.
But the one who really killed you in Piacenza was Slobodan Boskan.

And be sure that this season, Tours will still defend every single ball! Gaumont-Casias and Ngapeth are incredible diggers !

  • But the one who really killed you in Piacenza was Slobodan Boskan.

God i remember...also Sammelvuo played very well the retourn match here, much higher than his standard...

    Ngapeth

i already know him, he's a little phenom, just need some years of experience at a high level and he can become a monster

  • wow seems that Gromadowski is doing great in France his statistic are awsome  keep it on MArcel :)

Anyone can support a team that is winning - it takes no courage. But to
stand behind a team to defend a team when it is down and really needs
you, that takes a lot of courage.

  • He played very well against Avignon (but this is the weakest team of the league).

Overall I would say he is currently playing quite good after a tough start (but of course he had no time to train with Paris when he was at the European Championship).
Out of Poitiers, Paris has not played much games against supposedly strong teams. I think what he is currently doing is OK against weak teams, but that he'll have to play a bit better against the best teams of the league. Anyway, so far he's doing the job.

Here is Gromadowski stats page .
He's currently ranking 5th opposite in spiking efficiency, 9th in serving, and 8th scorer overall (with 19points per game).
These are very promising numbers for a newcomer in the league, but He'll have to show more in the future if he wants to be a starter in NT.

  • when he played with us 2 seasons ago he already showed some good potential, now that he plays always he can improve a lot!
