  • Baranek from the Czech Republic to Argentina
When he arrived in San Juan he spoke little Spanish but training he understood what the coaching team wanted from him with signs. That was the pre-season for Kamil Barank when he started with UPCN.

Mid August his hiring was known in the country. Since then, a lot happened, inclusive he became beginning November the father of Aylen, an Argentine little baby. He makes a balance and tells his feeling with UPCN, a team that has not lost a single set in three matches and that stands with the ideal average and scoring on top of the ACLAV Argentine A1 Men Teams League.

''I chose to come to San Juanit because I wanted a new experience. I did not know what it meant to play outside Europe but I feel great with UPCN. Its volleyball is very similar to the French one, very competitive.

    - Do you like San Juan?
It is a very nice and calm place with great people. I feel like at home. My playing mates are great. Porporatto helped me a lot at the beginning to understand the language.

-UPCN is ready to be champion?
Of course. We have a great team with many good players but mainly with a great team.

    - What are the hardest rivals?
Several teams play very well. Bolívar has great players, Buenos Aires and La Unión, too. It will be a very competitive league with many tie breakers.

Kamil arrive to Argentina with his wife last August and of course the arrival of his daughter made him very happy. " I do not miss my home here in San Juan", he added not forgetting to mention that he loves Argentine meat.

He started playing volleyball thanks to his father when he was 17 years old and after participating of the best leagues of the world, now he enjoys being part of the Argentine one.

Not enjoying the heat of San Juan but tolerating it, Alex Moreno is concentrated in the match that will face his team this weeekend, specially the first duel vs. the title holder, Bolívar this Thursday knowing that these will be clue matches as they will not only face the champion of last season but also the other undefeated team, on Saturday. It will be the hardest weekend until now.

“This is the hardest weekend of all the league as we are the three strongest teams of the competition. We play first vs. Bolívar and then vs. Buenos Aires Unidos while they face on the second match Instituto Pellegrini that is an easier team to play against" mentioned the Colombian player.

Moreno, added: "we have to be calm to face two such rivals. We are all three on top of the ranking and we are aware that it is very important and clue to add this weekend as many points as possible to keep on the top of the general ranking for us or for them, to advance over us".

Making a balance of what could happen he says: "All teams will do their utmost to win the points, but there will be very closed matches. We will concentrate in our game and do not give any advantage, we must do from our flaws our strongest points".

This weekend opens the 2010/11 League again after New Year's leave and Moreno expresses that it would have been better to face Bolivar and Buenos Aires Unidos prior to the leave, but those matches are a special motivation for any of the rivals. "Maybe at the end of the year 2010 we had a better rhythm and now it is like starting all over again but at the end it is the same. When playing those matches, that are "classical" because they are very demanding, it does not matter if one is tired, if one is in a bad day or if you play prior or after a leave. Those are great matches to be played and we will do our utmost to keep on top of the general ranking".

  • Ihosvany Hernandez and his history
Nine years ago Ihosvany Hernández took the hard decision of leaving his country, Cuba with the idea of never returning to his home land. Since then, he has been playing volleyball in many different places of the world.

He played in Italy, Turkey, Poland, Rumania and now, being 38 years old, for the first time at the best Argentine Volleyball Competition for Men Teams, the ACLAV Argentine A1 Tarjeta Nativa Nación League. His personal history has a lot to do with volleyball but not only because he plays it.

How do you feel your first experience at the Argentine League? Better, worst or as expected ...
Really I expected a very competitive competition. I heard about Bolívar as the strongest team, with four consecutive titles and nearly always the team that always wins is the one with the best budget hiring the best players and one expects it to win all the tournaments. But I arrived here and found a very competitive competition with other teams outside Bolívar that can win, too. I think it will be a very good but hard season. I also did not expected such a good organization. One plays twice a week, with very clear Ruling, with a lot of fans supporting each team and with a great respect for all players. We played in different fields and never had a single problem as visiting team. It is a great surprise.

How is Buenos Aires Unidos as team and as organization?
It is another great surprise. The first contact I had with the team was last July. Waldo Kantor called me and we started talking, he told me it was a new project. I though that as any new project it would take sometime as they always do in all its aspects but I did not know the team officials understood about volleyball, they know of all our needs of training, gym, weights and since I arrived to Argentina on August 21st I found something completely different. The authorities look after all our needs, they maintain the team united and do not get mixed with our work or training and for at least for me and I think all the players think the same, we have received all our needs since the same moment we arrived to the team helping adapting ourselves. Until now, I have the best feeling for Buenos Aires Unidos.

Can you compare this with any European team where you have played?
I played at several different European League and and I think that Buenos Aires Unidos and this league is very professional. There is capable people all around and with the organization, it is somehow very similar to some Italian teams. We are stimulated and the Club officials are always ready to help us in our needs.

You were in Mar del Plata several times but never as long as now, what kind of city did you find?
Last time was in the year 1999 for the finals of the FIVB World League with the Cuban National men Team when we lost against Italy in the final match but sincerely I did not expect such a big city. We used to go from the Stadium to the Hotel to train or play or downtown for a walk but we did not see much. Now I know the city pretty well and it is a great city. A very nice one that has all one can wish. The best is the beach. I come from an island and for me to see the beach is great and here I live in front of it. The organization is outstanding and the best for me because I live in this area is that there is no danger at all. In Europe you listen very bad things about Argentina, of the insecurity, its government, the police, of the danger of going out in the evening and until now I enjoy a quiet city where one can come and enjoy with the family.

What memories have you from the countries you played at?
The first lesson is that one can not stop doing things. For me sport is a challenge. Anywhere where I go I have to show my output, my attitude, and that I want to give the best. At my age, many players thing they do not have anything else to offer or they retire. Every player I met taught me different things, specially to reach this age with the will of enjoying volleyball. The best memory: "If you want to reach and achieve something, you have to show you can do it".
