  • Quarter-Final Series of the ACLAV A1 Men Teams League starts
These Tuesday and Thursday's the first two matches of each of the four series of Quarter-Finals of the ACLAV Argentine A1 Men Teams Tarjeta Nativa Nación League will start at the fields of the four best qualified teams during the Regular Season. The matches will take place as follows: Buenos Aires Unidos vs.PSM Voley; UPCN Voley vs. Sarmiento Santana Textiles; Drean Bolívar vs.SOS Villa María and La Unión vs.Boca-Río Uruguay Seguros, with live broadcasting of one of the four matches on Thursday by ESPN+.

The moments every volleyball fan, player and coaches have been waiting are round the corner. Just a few hours from now the first four matches of the Play-Offs Series will start to crown the 2010/11 champion among the best eight teams of the Regular Season that ended last week.

This Tuesday will take place in each series the first match - to the best of five matches - going on at the same field next Thursday. The best four teams - the winners of each Quarter-Finals will qualify for Semi-Finals. The four teams best ranked during the Regular Season will host the first two matches while the rivals will be at home for the next third and if needed - fourth match. In case of a fifth one, each series will return to its start point.

Coloso de Parque Luro from Mar del Plata will see the host team of Buenos Aires Unidos face as leader of the ranking the most "easy" rival, PSM Voley, that ended ranked on the 8th place. The team coached by Waldo Kantor won the two matches played during the regular season by 3-0 but this is a "new" competition as everyone feels and nothing is said until the matches are played and PSM Voley that ended in the last qualified place will try to obtain at least a victory as visiting team.

The second tanked team UPCN Voley Club will face the Chaco Sarmiento Santana Textiles team, coached by Elgueta, that finished on the seventh place. At Aldo Cantoni there will be a party to welcome both teams on both dates. Both matches of the Regular Season were won by the team coached by Fabián Armoa 3-1 and 3-0.

In Formosa at Centenario Stadium and with live broadcasting by ESPN+ on Thursday (second match), La Unión will face Boca-Río Uruguay Seguros in a series that promises great excitement while the third and sixth teams face each other. Their difference was of 10 points and five victories. Lopez' team overcame twice Gigante's team in their background.

The most levelled series will "be" the one that will face the teams that ended fourth and fifth on the Regular Season, Drean Bolívar and SOS Villa María. Both teams had only one point difference when the Regular Season ended. The Cordoba team won more matches in the first round while Weber's team, defending team lost one more match. Their background is also levelled - one victory for each side, first for Bolívar 3-0 and then for Cichello's team 3-1.

  • Drean Bolívar, Luciano De Cecco: "What my playing mates did was giant"
Javier Weber setter could not participate of the fifth and decisive match of the semi-final series of the ACLAV Argentine A1 Men Teams Tarjeta Nativa Nación League vs. Buenos Aires Unidos due to a renal colic but he supported and suffered the match from outside the field and celebrates the victory as own. "I am very happy as if I would have played it". He will be back in the field playing the final series.

Last Tuesday, Drean Bolívar defeated in Mar del Plata as visiting team Buenos Aires Unidos 1-3 qualifying once more for the Final Series of the best Argentine men teams competition. Still on their way to defending the title, they want to win their fifth consecutive league.

On of the clues of the team had to watch the match from outside, it was Luciano De Cecco, due to a terrible renal pain. "It was giant, what my playing mates did. We suffered a lot from outside, I never had such an experience but now I am as happy as if I would have played it. What did I like? The people, the support to our team, he added".

Juan Martín Riganti replaced him and he adds: "I saw Juan playing a great match, a very good replacement. I was nervous at the beginning but then found the team's rhythm. Fede (Pereyra) also did a great job and I am very happy because it was his match. I told him I would support him, much I could not do from outside but I am happy".

"Now, we have to look ahead. I will be able to play the final series, to play another definition and that is very important".

  • UPCN's Leonardo Patti expressed: "This is the result of the team doing its utmost"
To applaud till the hand hurt, with Leo Patti having a place at San Juan fans' heart. The wing spiker goes for his second consecutive final match series wearing UPCN Voley Club jersey and his seventh since he started playing the ACLAV Argentine A1 Men Teams Tarjeta Nativa Nación League, many years ago.

And after the qualification to fight for the title playing against one of his former teams, Drean Bolívar Patti said: "this is the result of the team doing its utmost, confident that we could not lose against La Unión. We showed all what the team can fulfil".

“We could not reach the final of the ACLAV Cup and the Super 8 competition and we lost in Tucumán the chance of finishing first at the Regular Season. All talked a lot about that, but today I do not change any of the two finals for this chance of fighting for the League's title. The best two teams arrived to this stage and that can not be argued by no one" he added.

About the exciting match where UPCN defeated La Unión in the fifth and definitive semi-final match, Patti also said: "the matches were very levelled because we are two teams that play very similar. What we obtained here, they did in Formosa, meaning that both teams are very strong playing at home. But the best of all was the atmosphere at the stadiums. Here, to se Aldo Cantoni with 5,000 spectators was terrific".

Thinking on what comes now, a new final series vs. Bolívar, the experienced player expressed: "There are important differences with reference to the champion team of last season". "I do not like to name it the new Bolívar, and less that this team is less than the one that won so many titles"

"Bolívar is a very important team that changed the semi-final series after coming from losing it 1-2 against the strong team of Buenos Aires Unidos and without his setter at the most important match, the fifth. They are the South American Team champion. It is a rival with very important players. It will be no doubt a great final series". He also added that he does not take this final series as a revenge. "Volleyball does not give revenges, it gives chances. I lost one final series and I will not recover it even though I could win 10 final series. I understand we have a new chance and can not fight for the title, we have to enjoy the moment and it is beautiful how we qualified" he closed saying.

  • UPCN Voley Club vs. Drean Bolívar: two old known teams in a repeated final series, or not?
UPCN Voley Club and Drean Bolívar (second finalist and champion of last season) will play for second consecutive season the final series of the ACLAV Argentine A1 Men Teams Tarjeta Nativa Nación League 2010-11, even though many of their placer and their output have changed during this season. This Friday and Saturday, the first two matches in San Juan Aldo Cantoni historical stadium.

The ACLAV Argentine League keeps growing steadily and some of the statistics of the final teams can prove it. Even though we are talking of the same teams there are many differences in their teams when comparing them with the 2009/10 season. Their identity and rhythm are also different and therefore they arrived to this instance taking a different path.

In the season 2009/10, Drean Bolívar and UPCN lead alone the Regular Season, and therefore also it was a fight of the best two teams that ended with the victory of the team coached by Javier Weber. At that time, Bolivar added 50 points and UPCN, 47. La Unión finished on the third place but with 39 points. This season, UPCN lead most of the regular season and lost the "top" place in the last date finishing with 52 points. Bolivar finished fourth with the same score as Formosa (third ranked team) and with 46 points. The top in the last match was won by Buenos Aires Unidos (now defeated in semi-final series in a fifth match by Drean Bolívar while La Union de Formosa was defeated also in five matches by UPCN).

During the Play-Offs 2009/10, UPCN overcame Chubut (four matches) and Formosa (in three) while Bolívar first finished with Boca and then Gigantes del Sur without losing a single match. This year the way to reach the final series was harder for both teams. San Juan team, coached by Fabián Armoa overcame first the team of Chaco, Sarmiento 3-0 but had to fight against La Unión (3-2), while the title holder, coached by Weber had a longer fight vs. Villa María (3-1) and then a terrific five match series vs. Buenos Aires Unidos (3-2) and it is the first time in their five last seasons that they do not start the final series at home as host team.

The teams were also renewed and somehow reinforced. San Juan lost the best scorer, Joel but hired the Colombian Alex Moreno and the Czech Kamil Baranek replaceing Suguinha. But then lost in the middle of the season Porporatto (that decided to leave the team) injuring the team but at the same time, Gustavo Molina that replaced him showed he deserved to be among the starting line-up players. Drean Bolívar lost William, Wallace, García, Spajic and Aschemacher but their officials hired young talented players like Solé, Méndez, Ocampo and Giachetta. With many injured players during the whole season the last one had to change several times the starting line-up to arrive to the fifth consecutive final series and the eight in its history.

The statistics are also important. Champions come out from decisive matches and therefore let's see their figures in the Play-Offs.

Drean Bolívar and UPCN have similar way to play: they bet to put pressure serving. San Juan team scored 27 aces vs. Buenos Aires 34 but is has more effectiveness as their non-forced errors serving is minor: 8 average per match. The champion risks more and gives away 19 points. Blocking is better for Armoa's team as both middle players stand on the podium as first (Molina) and third (Junior) best blockers of the league with a total of 87 points while Bolivar divides the total of 72 points among 4 players.

Spiking Ocampo is the best of Bolivar following Scholtis to become the best of the League and the champion, that has not the same result as last year, overcomes UPCN by 481 vs. 366 with an average of 53 per match over the 45 of San Juan Team.

The calendar of the final series is an extra "bonus" as ACLAV decided to put the first four matches in two consecutive days. Therefore this Friday and Saturday the teams will play the first two matches in San Juan while next week during Passover Holidays, on Thursday and Friday, the matches will take place in San Carlos de Bolívar.

In this Final series there are many very experienced players on final matches. In UPCN, Leonardo Patti is the first player with seven final series on his shoulders while for Bolívar, Bada and Pablo Meana have six, each.

Patti wore five different jerseys at final series in the following seasons: 2001/2 (UBA), 2003/5 (Bolívar Signia), 2005/6 (Rosario Sonder), 2006/7 (Gigantes del Sur), UPCN (2009/11). Meana was champion in five final series: 1998/9 (Luz y Fuerza, Necochea), 2006/10 (Bolívar) and in Brazil second finalist in the season 2004/5, winning in the four final series under Javier Weber with Bolivar since the year 2006.

  • Alex Moreno, the MVP of the Final Series of the League
Alexander Moreno Quejada became the 2010/11 MVP of the ACLAV Argentine A1 Men Teams Tarjeta Nativa Nación League

It was a hard hand, a weight arm in the team. The Colombian Alex Moreno became the Most Valuable Player of the Final Series of the ACLAV Argentine A1 Men Teams Tarjeta Nativa Nación League 2010/11, award given after the Media gave their suffrages.

Time for the opposite Colombian player. He has been already the star since the year 2003 when he arrived to Argentina to join Náutico Hacoaj and this time Alex Moreno could celebrate the title of the best volleyball competition for men teams in the country.

Since he arrived to the country he played with the jerseys of Hacoaj, River, Belgrano de Córdoba and two seasons with La Unión de Formosa, to touch the glory finally with UPCN Vóley Club. The opposite player and best scorer of his team in each victory of UPCN Voley in the final series matches was chosen as Most Valuable Player thanks to his power but over all because he always gave his utmost in every minute in the field.

As anecdote, one can add that a couple of years ago when in San Luis took place a South American competition, when he stepped onto the field wearing Colombian jersey he was cheered as one more loved Argentine player to the point that every time he scored local fans enjoyed his performance even though at times he played against the light blue - white jersey team.

Cristian is such a good player (you compare him with Conte and Quiroga...)? He signed a contract for one year with Roeselare and the head coach already said that they signed a contract with him before the Italian top teams could take him away for more money  . I think that he's good if you see his statistics, but I never saw him play...
