French LNV league 2010/2011

  • So we agree.
What's giving me some hope for Toulouse is that they have a very good coach (Josef Smolka), they have been in this kind of situation before and knows how to deal with it, and I think that Ojansivu has not shown the best of him so far. Since the team is so close from Rennes , Nantes, Nice and Tourcoing , (and obviously Beauvais but the situation is different) a small improvement of their game could result in precious points won.

of course, but in 2nd part of season Toulouse have much harder schedule as they play away against Tours, Sete, Beauvais and Poitiers :white: but they have 3 home matches against teams with which they will fight against relegation : Nice, Rennes and Tourcoing. Many things will depend on current form, injuries etc. but on first sight Rennes have better schedule, Tourcoing is better team (despite all their minuses) and Nice looks like their chance

Two 5 setters tonight. Despite a 2-0 lead, Toulouse was unable to resist Poitiers's comeback. Nantes (without Ales Holubec) was able to get one point out of Tourcoing in a pretty disapointing game (no close set out of the tie-breaker).
I'm looking forward to read the press tomorrow, but it looks like a slow start for teams who had a christmas break.

  • Nothing new with Tourcoing  this team can't keep concentration whole match :aww: what happened with Poitiers :what: Toulouse have had 2-0 in sets, later 8-5 in 5th set :aww:

we will see next round, but Toulouse must win against St.Quentin

  • Nothing new with Tourcoing  this team can't keep concentration whole match :aww:

It's not really a matter of concentration, but their OH are not reliable receiver and they can't replace them. So they are OK for one set, then awful, then they get back to something better and so on...
As long as they receive well, they are a great team.

what happened with Poitiers :what: Toulouse have had 2-0 in sets, later 8-5 in 5th set :aww:

Too much chocolate and turkey ? That's my best explanation for tonight ! :P

  • P2 stats of Toulouse-Poitiers are totally wrong and there's a problem also with other stats. Nantes can't play with 5 players...

There's been a problem in Toulouse yesterday, the live was launched with the team compositions of last season. All the game we had Boula (now setter of Paris) credited with reception and spikes !
About Tourcoing vs Nantes the starter missing is Hervé Boulc'h .He's the one who got 6 kill blocks (look at best blocker line).

Nantes played without Lavagne and Tourcoing without Angel Perez (who had to remain in Puerto Rico for undisclosed reasons).

About Poitiers, from what I read, Toulouse simply got a strong start with great serves and then slow down and was unable to keep the same level for 3 sets.

    Comments:

Great result for Tourcoing in Montpellier. Important victory for Beauvais and Toulouse, and despite the defeat in Poitiers, Cannes looks a bit better especially after 1st win in IECL. Paris defeated in Rennes. After Bleuze got injured in 2nd set, Skrimov had to play as a receiver and Both setters (Bonon and Boula) were to play together on court. (Bonon eventually playing as an opposite).

This day was the last of first half of the season. So next day, Granvorka (with Beauvais) and Webber (with Paris) will be allowed to play.

  • Bleuze injured? :white: Paris is destroyed by injuries this year, Hicham is out for a long time (Webber medical joker), Anthony is also out for several weeks, Bleuze also injured. So now Skrimov will play as OH (as far as I remember he is very bad on reception) and Paris will be in big problems

  • He played really well in reception against Rennes. (21/24 ) . We'll see if he can repeat his game ...

  • WOW :what:

Did Todor Skrimov played as opposite?

No, he was outside hitter. His reception was also pretty good 18/25 with 1 mistake.

Now St Quentin is the weakest team of the league and his stats against Poitiers last week were definitely not so good. But there's no doubt Skrimov has been playing better lately, the best proof being he's now a starter as OH when he was only a backup in october.

    Comments:

Most important fact: Poitiers, Cannes and St Quentin did not appeal from points withdrawal. The ranking is now taking it into account. On the other side, Tourcoing appealed the sanction, and they have their points back until the final decision is taken (don't now when). Must be the same about Paris, but there's been no communication from the LNV on this case.
    About the results:
Cannes is looking better with 6 points taken in two games, including a straight set victory against Sète. Poitiers is getting more and more impressive with now a 6 victory streak. They look like the only team that might be able to rival with Tours.
Ajaccio has recorded 3 defeats in a row and is now out of the top 8. Being a home team, they now have to take some points away if they want to be in the playoff.
Rennes (even if defeated by Tours yesterday) is now at the 8th place thanks to 2 home games (and two victories) before.
Tourcoing lost two games in a row with Lars Lorsheidj (last season best spiker of ligue A) injured. With only 8 pro players (including 2 setters) the team was unable to find a good enough roster to score points against Nice and Beauvais. With the threat of points withdrawall, Tourcoing not being able to face injuries issues is a concern.
Nantes played three home games in a row: they got no point against Sète, one point against Montpellier and 2 points against Toulouse. Not bad, but they'll have to keep fighting points after points to keep away from the 13th place.
Beauvais played its first game with Granvorka but he's not fit right now and only replace Kilama on block, without scoring any point. Gaumont-Casias is not at 100% as well, and the team won in Tourcoing more because of Tourcoing's flaw than Beauvais's quality. They have two home games delayed, but against Sète and Tours, so it's not so sure they'll score many points out of these.

Overall, you can see a very tight ranking with only 4 points between Tourcoing and Beauvais. All of these 7 teams can claim a playoff spot or ... End up in ligue B next season !

  • No, he was outside hitter. His reception was also pretty good 18/25 with 1 mistake.

If he repeats that performance often, I want him as a starter in the NT :sos:

  • Yesterday was the french cup 1/16 final:

    Cambrai 0/3 Rennes 19-25 19-25 14-25
    Asnières 0/3 Beauvais 19-25 38-40 20-25 P2
    Nantes Rezé 1/3 St-Quentin 24-26 23-25 25-18 21-25 P2
    Martigues 0/3 AS Cannes 18-25 21-25 19-25
    Mende 0/3 Tours 16-25 23-25 14-25 St-Brieuc 2/3 Poitiers 27-25 19-25 12-25 25-23 10-15 P2

    Narbonne 2/3 Toulouse 21-25 25-22 19-25 25-23 12-15

Most surprising result is Sète defeated by Nice. Sète played without 4 players, including starting setter Toniutti, starting opposite Simovski and starting MB Senger. Poitiers had a tough time in St Brieuc (trailing 8-10 in the tie-breaker but eventually wining the 5th set 15-10) like Toulouse in Narbonne.
Montpellier won in Ajaccio (always tough to play there) , Nantes lost to St Quentin, with a few starters not playing. (for example, the libero played as OH)

For next turn, 8 best teams of last season will face 8 last team.

  • Any Paris stats? :) Or pictures

  • Any Paris stats? :) Or pictures

Rantigny is a team from National 3, the team has only 2 training session per week (and there's always players missing). They probably don't have anyone knowing how to use the stats software.
So far there's no pictures on their website either...

  • How then they scored points against Paris? :what: With two trainings per week :sos:

  • How then they scored points against Paris? :what: With two trainings per week :sos:

Either Paris play it easy so the game don't get boring for the audience (no fun for anyone if the game end up 25-10, 25-10, 25-10). Either they let backup players on court . Maybe even both.

Plus, Rantigny had nothing to lose, so they might have taken a lot of risk. Team playing like that often score a few points if only out of luck.

    Comments:

Obviously the most interesting result is the victory of Poitiers against Tours. From what I read, Tours played rather bad (especially Ngapeth, and MB) and Poitiers was really good. Eric Ngapeth (coach) was a bit worried because the team might not be currently strong enough to challenge Dynamo Moscow. I think that Poitiers is playing really good since a few weeks, and that Tours currently lacks an OH backup to replace Earvin or Olteanu when they are not good. The team is considering hiring a replacement (maybe from South America ?)for Loic Geiler who is out for 2 months. Anyway, Poitiers proved that Tours is not going to have an easy run to the championship or the french cup. Let's wait for the next meeting in play-off or cup ...

Otherwise good result for Beauvais (at least leaving 13th place) and Rennes (now clearly to consider for playoff) . Both teams had difficult start this season but are now playing better. Cannes is also looking way better than one month ago. Ajaccio and Nantes secured both important away straight sets victory.
These victories are putting a lot of pressure on Toulouse, Nice and Tourcoing. (+ Beauvais, but Beauvais looks like they can handle it).

Only one surprise: Nantes's victory against Cannes. That's the 3rd victory in a row for Nantes, and they are now having a 8 points lead on the 13th spot in the ranking. They may even have a run to the play-off if they keep score points.
In pretty much the same situation, Ajaccio took one point from Sète. Still a pretty good result for them.
Otherwise, Toulouse's opposite (Ojansivu) is out for 2 month. This might be a big problem for them. Yet they managed to get 1 point from Paris.
With a clean victory (without Gaumont-Casias and Granvorka) in Nice, Beauvais keep climbing the ladder and remain undefeated in 2011.
Montpellier got the better of Rennes and is cruising to the play-off. Rennes still have chances to make it as well, but the fight with Paris, Nantes, Ajaccio and Beauvais will be huge !
Not much comment on Tourcoing vs Poitiers (great game from Rouzier. Maréchal's suspension ended and he will be back next week), and Tours vs St Quentin. Earvin Ngapeth missed the game due to knee infiltration (he will be back to play against Dynamo) and was replaced by his young brother, Swan. (since Loïc Geiler is out for 2 months)
