French LNV league 2010/2011

  • 1/4 Final 1st game results:

    Tours 3/2 Montpellier 25-20 30-32 25-23 21-25 15-13 P2
    Poitiers 1/3 Nantes Rezé 23-25 19-25 25-16 22-25 P2
    Sète 3/1 Paris 22-25 25-20 25-23 28-26 P2
    AS Cannes 3/1 Rennes 25-17 19-25 25-21 25-19 P2

Huge surprise with Poitiers defeated by Nantes. That's the 5th defeat in a row for Poitiers who won only two sets in these games. The team dropped games to rest a few key players, and now seems to be unable to regain confidence, especially against a team like Nantes who was not really expecting to be in play-off and is playing with zero pressure.
Tours struggled to defeat Montpellier, only 2 days after french Cup final 4. MOntpellier was even leading 6-10 in the tie-breaker, but the young team was unable to close the game. Without any doubt, Tours was helped bu a greater experience of tough games in IECL or French competitions.
No surprise in Cannes and Sète. But the 3-1 victory may led us to think that it won't be easy in Rennes and Paris.

  • 1/4 final 2nd game results:

    Montpellier 2/3 Tours 25-21 18-25 25-19 18-25 12-15 P2 (0-2 serie is over)
Nantes Rezé 0/3 Poitiers 22-25 26-28 20-25 P2 (1-1 last game to be played this evening in Poitiers)
    Paris 2/3 Sète 25-21 25-17 19-25 22-25 11-15 P2 (0-2 serie is over)
    Rennes 1/3 AS Cannes 22-25 25-21 21-25 18-25 P2 (0-2 serie is over)

    No real surprise.
Tours struggled one more time, but with 1 week before next game against Cannes, player will have the time to get some rest. This game came just after the club announced to Eric Ngapeth he won't be the coach next season, but it looks like this news had not too bad effect on the team.
Poitiers did not play that well in Nantes (who was a bit deceiving), but was able not to panic when Nantes was playing at their level, and keep level slightly above Nantes for most of the game. If they just manage to do that this evening, they'll be fine. Playing against Sète is going to be a different story, but we'll see that in time if Poitiers wins.

  • Poitiers proved they were able to fight for qualification.

Now against Sète, they'll probably need to add some quality to the recipe ...

  • 1/4 final 3rd game:

    Poitiers 3/1 Nantes Rezé 25-16 21-25 26-24 26-24 P2 (2-1 serie is voer)

    1/2 final 1st game:

    Tours 3/2 AS Cannes 18-25 29-27 19-25 25-14 15-5 P2 (1-0 next game to be played Wednesday the 4th)
    Poitiers 3/0 Sète 25-17 25-15 26-24 P2 (1-0 next game to be played friday the 3rd)

  • Thanx for updates, I read every week!

  • 1/2 final 2nd game:

    AS Cannes 1/3 Tours 22-25 18-25 25-20 21-25 P2 (0:2 serie is over)
    Sète 2/3 Poitiers 20-25 25-16 25-27 25-23 11-15 P2 (0:2 serie is over)

Final to be played in Paris on 05-14

No surprise, after dominating the regular season, Tours and Poitiers will face for the final. Poitiers is now sure to play the IECL next season.

  • Poitiers is the new champion of France! Quite surprising based on Tours' overall domination, but am looking forward to their participation in the CL next season. Hope they keep the roster and find a good new opposite.

They will keep the same roster, only the opposite will be changed.
Now with the club facing financial difficulties, it is doubtful they'll be able to hire a better opposite than Rouzier.

Tours was a little bit disappointing, not receiving good enough for most of the game, and lacking a bit of efficiency on serve .
Poitiers was really good in blocking (especially Sol) and received very well.

  • End of season in Ligue B.

If the champion, Lyon (led by former NT captain, Dominique Daquin) was known for a few weeks, the playoff for the second spot in ligue A next season ended today after a thrilling 5 setters between Narbonne and Avignon, Narbonne eventually wining the last set 22-20.

Just like Nantes last season, Lyon's domination this season was not expected, when Narbonne (coming from Ligue A) was one of the main favorite.

  • Did Stoyko Nenchev play for Narbonn? Lost his tracks last year :sos:

He played indeed ! (he got 11 points including 6 aces)
He's also still under contract with Narbonne.

  • Dany Mihaylov got best receiver award in Ligue B? Our websites write so

Actually he was just voted as one of the 2 outside hittter of the Ligue B first team.
His teammate and fellow outside hitter in Lyon, Jérémie Jambon got the MVP award.

If you look at the stats, Mihaylov was far from being the best receiver (32nd overall)
