  • Wow, these three all look REALLY strong. Especial Kazan...

What happened to Alexey Ostapenko? How come I never see him play anymore. I thought he was hugely talented. They use to call him ace-stapenko! :super:   :teach: :wavy:

  • Dynamo Moscow have weakest team in the last few years  IMO Zenit is main candidate for the title this year, Lokomotiv Belgorod will be very strong in home matches, so I see them in final again. Iskra Odintsovo have decent team (Abramov, Samica, Verbov, Egorchev, Schops, Kuleshov etc.), also new coach - Santilli from Jastrzebski Wegiel  Lokomotiv Novosibirsk & Fakel Novy Urengoy lost many important players so I don't see them high as last season. :teach:

Ostapenko got injured during the Olympic Games. He didn't play whole season 2008/09 (just some sets during 2 quaterfinal matches against Ural Ufa). On April 2009 he has surgery. In season 09/10 he was in roster only for 4 games and didn't play much. He was also in team Dynamo-2, but I don't know if for play or just train.

  • Ah okay thanx for the info Justyna :) Helpful as always.

  • RUSSIAN SUPERCUP 2010

    23rd October, "Basket Hall", Kazan

    Zenit Kazan - Lokomotiv Belgorod 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-16)

    Zenit Kazan: Ball 1, Mikhaylov 17, Tetyukhin 7, Panteleymonenko 8, Apalikov 7, Abrosimov 10, Babichev (L), Obmochaev (L), Priddy 3.

Lokomotiv Belgorod: Sintini, Dineykin 2, Khtey 6, Biryukov 10, Muserskiy 10, Spajic 7, Kosarev (L), Illynich 6, Bagrey, Fomenko, Sychev 1.

  • The Supercup game was the official start of the Russian volleyball season. However, yesterday Zenit was deifnitely better than Lokomotiv. They showed devastating serves, it was the element that more or less decided the first set, the rest of the game had almost no competition.. Bad official debut for Sintini, he didn't show anything promising yesterday, surely he would need time to adjust to the Russian way of playing. Dineykin was quite mediocre as well, I think he is quite far away from his brightest years, I don't know how his season will develop. An interesting new role for Alexander Kosarev who played the whole game as a libero! Belgorod needs to work very hard to be able to start the league games and the IECL as expected. On the other side, Zenit still looks impressive even though Priddy is not in his best shape, with him as an option at 4 alongisde Tetyukhin and Panteleymonenko, and Maxim Mikhaylov opposite to Ball Zenit remains the main favourite for the title! I'd love to watch this team against our CSKA :)

  • Semifinal stage of the Russian Cup to be held in four cities
The semifinal stage of the Russian Cup will be held in four cities – Nizhnevartovsk, Surgut, Novosibirsk and Moscow. Only the winners of the various preliminary groups will move to the Final four that is scheduled for late December. The everlasting interest to this tournament is also supported by the fact that the winner of the Russian Cup will book a ticket to join the 2012 CEV Champions League.
The matches of the semifinal stage will run across the above mentioned venues through November 9-11, 2010.
The defending champions of Zenit KAZAN will be tested for strength by the seasoned tournament fighters Yaroslavich YAROSLAVL and Ural UFA, both clubs stemming from the Superleague, and Ugra-Samotlor NIZHNEVARTOVSK that will be desperately supported by the local fans. The game featuring young Russian star Maxim Mikhaylov, who moved from Yaroslavl to Kazan this summer, against his former team where he majestically developed as a player is of special interest in this group.
Lokomotiv BELGOROD will fight against the last season Superleague failure Lokomotiv EKATERINBURG, Nova NOVOKUIBYSHEVSK from the second Russian league and the host team Gazprom-Ugra SURGUT, which is starting soon its European campaign in the 2011 GM Capital Challenge Cup against the Ukrainian side of Crimsoda KRASNOPEREKOPSK.
The eternal rivals Dynamo MOSCOW and Iskra ODINTSOVO will meet in the other group, which includes also the third team from the Moscow region, MGTU MOSCOW, and the newcomer of the Superleague, Dynamo KRASNODAR.
Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK, Fakel NOVY URENGOY, Kuzbass KEMEROVO and Dorozhnik KRASNOYARSK will have it out in Novosibirsk and the local team seems to be the favorite in this quartet.

  • Gazprom-Ugra Surgut- Ural Ufa 3:2 (23:25; 25:22; 20:25; 15:7)
Congrats to Surgut! I'm really glad that they won especially because our middle-blocker Łukasz Kadziewicz played very good match :) Łukasz scored 13 points: 7 in attack(88 % efficiency), 5 in block and 1 ace. Good job Łukasz! Keep it up! :)

  • Lokomotiv Belgorod broke the record of kill blocks during a 4-set match in the Russian championship this weekend. They made 24(!) blocks against Dinamo Krasnodar in the 3-1 away victory. The absolute record is held by Yaroslavich Yaroslavl - 30 blocks in the 5-set victory against NOVA Novokuybishevsk back in 2009.

  • It seems that this would be totally uninteresting season in Russia. I watched Belgorod - Zenit few days ago and Zenit run over Belgorod. Such domination I didn't saw often. I knew they have magnificent attackers but I was impressed with their defense in field :obey: Zenit played perfect match, leaving Belgorod without chances even for set. Total domination :obey:

So far Iskra is biggest disappointment, playing really bad. They have very good team with Abramov, Samica, Schops, Verbov, Kuleshov but they were close to loose match against Yaroslavich. Winning mentality can't be bought

  • So far Iskra is biggest disappointment, playing really bad.

A lot of objective reasons for that. New coach with new trainings and vision for the game, Samica still in bad form, Abramov is yet to make his debut in the league, Shops played only against Dinamo...but Lloy Ball & co. look unbeatable, indeed.

That's true but players aren't unexperienced, Samica and Abramov knows Santilli very well ;) they have decent OH - Kalinin, Spridonov etc. maybe they will be better but for now they look awful.

  • I'm in awe of Russian league this season :obey: simply everyone can beat everyone, every match have own intrigues and atm Superleague looks much stronger than Italian. This may sound like a joke but level of play in Russia is getting better and better every season, teams investing lot of money in players and halls are always full (I'm talking about matches that I saw). Zenit lost 3 matches so far, Surgut and Yaroslavich overcame Alekno squad 3:2, but Zenit's last loss against Novosibirsk shows that we will have really interesting season. Also Iskra is playing better and better, currently they are on 2nd position, with 5-6 wins in row. Novosibirsk is currently first and Zenit 3rd. Novosibirsk lost lot of players before season (Priddy, Lee, Korneev etc.) so their results are very surprising.

This week Russian Cup Final Four is going to be held in Novosibirsk with replay of the last round match Zenit - Novosibirsk  other semifinalist are Dynamo Moscow and Lokomotiv Belgorod :dance6:

I agree with that, the Russian league is becoming unpredictable, but there's something else that I noticed. The favourites sometimes have the tendency to show some "aristocracy" when they face supposedly weaker teams. I think Zenit and Belgorod show other, more serious attitude when they play in the Champions league, for example. The same "aristocracy", IMO, was the reason why Dinamo Moscow was eliminated from the World Club Championship, it seemed like they were expecting Bolivar to stop playing just because they were against the big Dinamo. Also, look at the squad of Zenit in their last game against Novosibirsk. Ball never came on, Mikhaylov played only for a while even when Zenit was losing. So, I think in the play-offs the situation will change :)

Probably Ball was resting for Cup Final Four, as he played all matches for Zenit this season and their schedule is really cluttered. But I expect them on recognizable level already in Novosibirsk. Also they underestimated Novosibirsk but I'm still by my opinion that Zenit is level about everyone in Russia

I don't think Dynamo was arrogant against Bolivar, simply they played best as they can atm as they don't have good squad this year and what is more sad Dynamo don't have coach. Cherednik is a jackass who don't have clue about volley, just look his decisions during the match :rolll: . But let's get back on players :rolll: Dynamo don't have good opposite as Yakovlev is a fat pig who can't jump while Kruglov is just solid player for Russian league and I think they regret for Poltavsky who invented volley for both Yakovlev and Kruglov. So they don't have opposite who can make difference. Veres is a joke player IMO, Dante unrecognizible and Korneev also solid backup player, so they have really big problems with reception and attack. Kazakov is way below his games in Novosibirsk, Shcherbinin is too ''green''. Bragin was very poor also. Grankin out of form atm so currently Dynamo is very vulnerable. Without good coach their situation looks even worse. ;)

Maybe there is something in story about ''aristocracy'' but level of volley is rising as teams are investing in players. IMO Surgut is doing great job with young team and they should be much higher than their postion suggests. Belgorod have problems with setters as Sintini was disappointing, Bagrey isn't class setter. Now Sintini left, Kolodinsky came but I don't think he will be first setter. Shipulin trust to Bagrey but we will see things in future
