Germany - DVL Bundesliga 13/14

  • This weekend, the cup-semis will take place:

    14. Dezember 2013 | 19.30 Uhr | Berlin Recycling Volleys – Generali Haching (DVL-live.tv)

    15. Dezember 2013 | 18.00 Uhr | VfB Friedrichshafen – TV Ingersoll Bühl (DVL-live.tv)

The teams will be highly motivated to reach the final in Halle, which has become a great event with a lot of public attention.
All teams played european cup matches during the week, with Berlin being the only team having played at home and against a quite easy opponent.

I am really looking forward to both matches as they will give a foretaste of what it is to come in playoffs.

  • 14. Dezember 2013 | 19.30 Uhr | Berlin Recycling Volleys – Generali Haching (DVL-live.tv)

First finalist is Berlin. They were just winning 3:0 against Haching (25:21, 26:24, 25:18 ).
Looks like an easy win for Berlin, but in fact, it was a big fight for each point. Both scouts made a good job, so that both teams had big problems siding out. There were really a lot of long and spectacular rallies. I haven't seen this very often on such a level in mens volleyball.

  • 15. Dezember 2013 | 18.00 Uhr | VfB Friedrichshafen – TV Ingersoll Bühl (DVL-live.tv)

And the final will be: VFB Freidrichshafen vs. Berlin Recycling Volleys

VfB just completely demolished Bühl (3:0, 25:15, 25:12, 25:12). It didn't even took them an hour. :white:
Quite disappointing performance by Bühl, in every aspect they were miles behind VfB. Especially serve/reception was not eexisting for Bühl, whereas VfB were really throwing some bombs over the net.

Unfortunately, DVV doesn't provide any stats

    Here they are: http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2013-14/Men/&7021.pdf

  • The Executive Board of the German Volleyball League (DVL) has withdrawn the license of RWE Volleys Bottrop with immediate effect.
The club has repeatedly failed to meet requirements of the economic licensing process. All matches of Bottrop will be deleted.

You could have seen that coming and imo, thats the right decision. Of course it is always bad if something like this happens. For the the remaining players, for the fans and last but not least for the reputation of the league. Bottrop were playing with players (Stein, French), they could not afford and with these players leaving, i guess they wouldn't have won any matches any more. That would have distorted the competition. Further more, stuff like that doesn' t happen the first time in Bottrop.

So no team will be relegated this year.

This is an article from a week ago, about the situation in Bottrop, which led to this exclusion.

  • And there is the next club with financial problems :white:
VC Dresden announced that they need 40.00 Euro until 27th December, otherwise they would be forced to go into administration. Players salaries will be cut by 10% and management will completely abandon any payment. But nevertheless, they still need these 40.000 Euro and they hope that they can raise the money by donations.

VC Dresden raised 22.000 Euros by donations within the last days and isn´t forced, at least for the moment, to go into administration. They are optimistic to raise further donations and hope to be able to undo the salary caps of the players.

  • Back to business.... Already on Wednesday, Bundesliga will play its next round:

08.01.14 BERLIN RECYCLING Volleys vs. TV Ingersoll Bühl (19.30, one-camera-stream)
08.01.14 Moerser SC vs. evivo Düren
08.01.14 TV Rottenburg vs. VfB Friedrichshafen (19.30, one camera-stream)
08.01.14 VC Dresden vs. VSG Coburg/Grub

It will be interesting to see, if Bühl can put on a better display than in Friedrichshafen. Dropping points is not an option for Berlin, as they slowly have to take care to secure a good spot for the playoffs.

Couldn't watch any match tonight, but on paper it looks like Berlin had a quite easy match. Lebedew gave playing time to all his 13 players :white:. It seems, this year, Bundesliga will remain a three-horse-race.

  • Below video is showing the matchball for Bühl against Cuneo in CEV cup. I posted a link already in CEV thread, but as i love this video so much and just found it on youtube i will post it here again.

Standing: 14:13 for Bühl in the golden set. Have a look :cheesy:

  • This weekend matches

11.01.14 TV Ingersoll Bühl vs. VSG Coburg/Grub
11.01.14 TV Rottenburg vs. CV Mitteldeutschland (one-camera-stream)
11.01.14 VC Dresden vs. VfB Friedrichshafen
12.01.14 Generali Haching vs. BERLIN RECYCLING Volleys

Haching vs. Berlin (sunday 16 CET, live on http://www.dvllive.tv ) clearly is the match of the weekend. They already played in the cup-semis and it was a very enjoyable match on a very good level. Both teams did an incredible job on defense, including monster-rallies. Berlin won 3:0, even though they had a lesser attack efficiency. With Haching playing at home now, i expect more than three sets.

Haching vs. Berlin unfortunately wasn't the great match i hoped for. Berlin with better serve/reception than Haching and as they have the better wing spikers anyway, there was no way for Haching to think about more than winning a set. But even that didn't work out yesterday. Moreau wasn't bad yesterday, but probably not as good yet, as he can be. Haching really needs him in good shape to be competitive in the play-offs.
As for the business part, Haching is still searching for sponsors who can provide the million euro, which they think is necessary, to be competitive next year. So the threat of withdrawal is still actual.

  • Last weekends results:
18.01.14 CV Mitteldeutschland vs. VC Dresden 3:0 (25:20,25:19,25:19)

Recently, Berlin Recycling volleys had been voted Berlin`s "Team of the Year". This is very remarkable, if you consider the competition (e.g. last year promoted footballers of Hertha BSC, Icehockey champions Eisbären Berlin). Together with their sponsor, Berlin`s litter service ^^ , they are doing a very good job in promoting the sports in the city. They have high attendances and, at least in the city, a good media attention.

    Haching just lost 1:3 (22:25, 28:30, 25:16, 24:26)
Business as usual for Haching, whenever they recently play a good team. They are playing their socks off, but even if their lives depended on it, they are not able to win a tight set. :wall: Statiscally they are ahead in Block, Attack effiency and perfect reception. It must be very frustrating for them, standing there with empty hands.
VfB not very convincing as well. They brought Haching back in fourth set, where they were already leading with 5 points. That kind of mentality they already showed in champions league. This time Geiler saved them with two great serves in the end.

I was in the hall yesterday. There's not too much to say really, the game went almost as I had expected. If you guys ever have the chance, go watch Grebennikov play. Probably the best young libero out there. With the squad they have, Friedrichshafen had quite a disappointing CL campaign, they need to make up for it in the playoffs. I haven't looked at the stats yet, but Paduretu seems to have trouble finding a reliable OH next to Schwarz. Recently he has tested Marks, Gommans (yesterday) and Strohbach. Reception doesn't seem to be a problem, but what I have witnessed is they relatively often fail to win long rallies. Hence, you have long set issues sometimes.
