  • Lets have a look at the two top teams and CL participants transfers:

    Berlin Recycling Volleys:

    New:
    Erik Shoji (L)
    Christian Dünnes (Op, MB)
    Rob Bontje (MB)

    still in squad:
Carroll (op), Kmet (MB), Krystof (L), Touzinsky (OH), Kromm (OH), Shoji (S), Fischer (MB), Kühner (S), Spirovsky (Op)

    Out:
Lisinac (Belchatow), Sikiric (sports director), Schott ( on loan), Hecht (?)

They now have a very, very experienced side 8)
Erik Shoji of course is a very good transfer, even though they already have a good libero under contract. Again, they kept nearly all their main players and still added some mavericks to an already experienced side. I would guess, they still transfer an OH.

    VfB Friedrichshafen

    New
Simon Tischer (S), Michal Finger (Op), Nicolas Vogel (MB), Moritz Reichert (OH), Maarten van Gaarderen (OH), Adrian Gontariu (Op)

    still in squad:
    Grebennikov (L), Geiler (OH)

    out:
Bratoev, Yosifov, Simeonov, Gotsev, Jovovic, Duennes, Harms

Poor Stelu.... He has to build, once again, a new squad. On paper, the transfers look good and reasonable but again, it will become very
difficult to challenge Berlin for the title......

  • There is still a big questionmark behind Generali Haching. They haven`t announced any transfers yet. A lot of players already left the club and imo, it is highly probable that they still withdraw.

Now, it is official. Generali Haching withdraws from professional volleyball and won't participate in next years season :white:
The league will play with 12 teams and now there will be only one team relegating to second division.

It wasn`t possible for them to find a new main sponsor to substitute Generali, even though the search went on for years.....
Very sad news, the club has been an essential part of german mens volleyball in the last seventeen years. ;(

    clubs statement: http://www.generali-haching.de…ls.13+M5ffe8b0695c.0.html

  • Sad story, another good club went bankrupt :( Cuneo, Haching...who is next

TimHH can you please help me, I can't find in which CEV competition Haching supposed to play?? And do you maybe know who will replace them??

  • Sad story, another good club went bankrupt :( Cuneo, Haching...who is next

Well, technically they didn't go bankrupt. They don't have any debts and paid their players till the end, according to their contracts. I guess, they could have even built a budget on the level of CV Mitteldeutschland, Netzhoppers or some other lower level teams. But they decided that they don't want to start at zero again after building up the club in a long process. That is understandable and has to be accepted.

There is just too much competition in the munich region regarding sponsors. Two high level football teams, Basketball, ice hockey. Obviously there is no space for Volleyball. I know this situation from Hamburg very well. With some rare exceptions, Volleyball in Germany is a sports for small cities......

Sorry, i can't help you very much. At the moment, besides our two CL teams, we only have TV Ingersoll Bühl in the CEV Cup. For the Challenge Cup, no other german team is enlisted.

  • Say goodbye to Deutsche Volleyball Liga and welcome the Volleyball Bundesliga. :obey:

Today a press conference was held, where they presented the new name of the league. Some people expected something like a tv deal or a general sponsor, but basically "Raider is called Twix now".

There is a new logo and the design of home page changed as well. I was hoping for something a bit more substantial but this will come now for sure. The new claim above the logo is "Home of Respect" :whistling:

    New homepage: http://www.volleyball-bundesliga.de/

  • I just edited the first post of the thread and:

    • excluded Haching from the list :white:
    • Renamed VC Dresden to Cloud & Heat Volley Dresden (new sponsor)
    • Changed the threads name to Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL)
    • Added some useful links

The season will start on 16.10.2014 and i would truly enjoy some traffic here. Its not "my" thread so everyone should feel free to contribute whatever.

Maybe there are some "readers only", not registered yet, who would enjoy a little chat about Bundesliga ?!! Go ahead and register, Its a fun place here and there are not many other opportunities on the net to talk about Bundesliga. :wavy: :super:

You know I would ;) However, due to Haching's disbanding, I won't be able to follow that many games live. Perhaps sportdeutschland's live streams might be of use. It's true that Herrsching is in the Bundesliga now instead (in terms of Bayern representatives), but their hall is outside the city itself, so watching games live will still be a problem, unfortunately.

  • Thanks to Sebastian Kuhner, I have grown quite a bit interest in BR Volley. Should there be no schedule conflicts, I may even want to watch a match in Berlin!

So it was taken from you and given to me :) .
This year i will surely be able to watch some matches of Lüneburg. They are a newbie in the league, but made some promising transfers. Especially Stefan Hübner taking over the team and coming back to Northern Germany was a nice surprise. I will just have to take care of tickets in time. Their hall is not much bigger than a shoe box

Just by numbers, they are by far the best supported team in Germany and really well established in the city. They make a nice event out of their matches as well, so a visit could be really worth it.

  • Tomorrow, Thursday, the Bundesliga will start with the opening match:

    16.10.14 VSG Coburg/Grub vs. VfB Friedrichshafen (19.30 CET, live on http://www.vbl.tv )

The other matches will follow the coming weekend:

18.10.14 CLOUD&HEAT VOLLEY DRESDEN vs BERLIN RECYCLING Volleys
18.10.14 SVG Lüneburg vs. CV Mitteldeutschland
18.10.14 SWD powervolleys DÜREN vs. TV Ingersoll Bühl (19.30 CET, http://www.vbl.tv )
18.10.14 TV Rottenburg vs. TSV Herrsching (19.30 CET, http://www.vbl.tv )
19.10.14 VSG Coburg/Grub vs. VCO Berlin

  • 16.10.14 VSG Coburg/Grub vs. VfB Friedrichshafen 0:3 (20:25, 22:25, 11:25)
    stats: http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2014-15/Men/&1002.pdf

The match wasn't very exciting. VfB was far from being perfect, but still way above Coburg. For VfB, Zimmermann was setting, as Simon Tischer isn't ready yet after his knee surgery in summer. If they want to reach something in CL and fight for the title in the league, they will definetely need Tischer. Imo Zimmermann isn't ready yet for the highest level.

The most interesting match on the weekend will be Düren vs. Bühl. Most probably Düren will be the third force in the league, clearly behind Friedrichshafen and Berlin. They kept the key players of their squad and added some good players. Bühls squad isn't comparable to the last year so i think they will fight with almost the whole league for the places behind Friedrichshafen/Berlin/Düren.

With regard to the Champions League, Berlin's manager declared once again, that the club will try to host the final four tournament. Therefore they would have to survive the group stage. Not impossible, and i really hope that their bid will be successful :super:

  • I watched the match yesterday. Friedrichshafen looks poor compared to the past seasons.

The match wasn't really great. Gontariu had a very strong start, but then he had some troubles, expecially spiking from the back row. Grebennikov wasn't even close to his standard level, by the way the main attraction from Bundesliga is having the best liberos in the world (Grebennikov and Shoji, of course), without forgetting Tille, best libero at 2010 WCH.

On Coburg side I really liked the young MB with that dangerous float service. Coburg has a really nice hall!

Probably it is a bit too early to judge Friedrichshafens performance. Last year they started even worse. We will see....

What i liked on Coburg's side is that they tried with some young german players in starting 6. Kocian, the setter, 19 years old, Karlitzek (OH) 18 years and Baxpöhler (MB) only 20 years. I hope those guys develop and do well this year.

You know, you really got me thinking when you said you expected more from Dueren this season than Buhl. I am quite sure Buhl will be third force in the Bundesliga this season, just as they were fourth last year and maybe the year before. The 3-0 away win kind of proves it even if it's way too early to draw conclusions. Still, first season win, away at your most formidable (in terms of the bronze medal fight ) opponent's hall is a hallmark.

OK, it looks like you might be right. 8)
Very good start of the season for Bühl. Great win as well for Lüneburg in their first Bundeliga match ever :super: . They probably benefitted a bit from the departure of Peter Trolle Bonnesen, who surprisingly left CV Mitteldeutschland a week before the start of the season for "personal reasons".

    Weekends results:
18.10.14 CLOUD&HEAT VOLLEY DRESDEN vs BERLIN RECYCLING Volleys 0:3 (19:25,23:25,22:25)
18.10.14 SVG Lüneburg vs. CV Mitteldeutschland 3:1 (25:18,23:25,28:26,25:15)

    19.10.14 VSG Coburg/Grub vs. VCO Berlin 3:0 (25:19,25:17,25:19)

  • On Wednesday, BR Volleys played against the youngsters of VCO Berlin:
22.10.14 VCO Berlin vs BERLIN RECYCLING Volleys 0:3 (16:25,16:25,16:25)

There are currently some critics about this VCO project, as they didn't work well during last years. The guys will hardly win a match this season and the best players of this generation choosed to play in other Bundesliga teams anyway. (Karlitzek, Kocian, Reichert etc.).
Especially BR Volleys manager Niroomand is very voicy in his critics:

26.10.14 VfB Friedrichshafen vs. SWD powervolleys DÜREN 2:3 (25:18,22:25,18:25,25:14,13:15)
    stats: http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2014-15/Men/&1008.pdf

I did not watch, so i can only judge the numbers. VfB lost with an overall attack percentage of 53 % :white: . Düren had only 46% but obviously made the decisive points.
Simon Tischer started for VfB, but got subbed for Zimmermann after the third set. Hopefully no injury again. Marvin Prolingheuer had a great match for Düren. (24 points / 59 %). Good to see that he recovered from being subbed for Kühner on World League matches :D .

    The other results:
    25.10.14 CV Mitteldeutschland vs VSG Coburg/Grub 2:3 (25:15,21:25,30:28,20:25,9:15)
