Germany - Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL) 2014/15

  • 06.12.14 - 19.30 - SWD powervolleys DÜREN vs. CLOUD&HEAT VOLLEY DRESDEN 3:0 (25:0,25:0,25:0)
According to the reports, Dresden travelled to Düren with only 6 players and one player got sick before the match. So the match didn't take place..... an exclusion of the team by the VBL is now highly probable

I had a great night in the gym  .
Angel Trinididad de Haro was deserved MVP of the match. As a setter he scored incredible 15 points (9 aces, 3 attacks and 3 blocks) 8o Overall, Bühl lacked a bit of a consistant opposite. Young Austrian Buchegger started, but was quickly subbed for Kostolani. Although he had a an ok attack percentage, he made clearly too many mistakes. Service and good contribution from the middles saved Bühl the match.

For Lüneburg the main hitters, Tijman Laane and Falko Steinke did well. Steinke clearly is one of the most powerful opposites in the Bundesliga. a very impressive hitter and jumper :obey: Overall the reception line allowed too many aces, especially Trinidad de Haro was a nightmare for them. Btw, Erik Mattson owes me a beer now, as it was spilled when he jumped into the advertisment. So we had great places as well 8)

  •

It was almost full :cursing: And he didn't even bring the ball back....... 8)

Tomorrow and Thursday the cup quarter-final will be played. No question, Friedrichshafen vs. Berlin will be the most interesting match.

All matches live on http://www.vbl.tv :
    10.12.14 - 19.30 - Cloud&Heat Volley Dresden vs. SVG Lüneburg, one-camera-stream
The match is still in question, due to Dresden's financial problems. The whole situation is a big mess and a pathetic performance by all fractions involved

    10.12.14 - 20.00 - SWD powervolleys Düren vs. CV Mitteldeutschland, one-camera-stream
    Düren is the clear favourite.....

    10.12.14 - 20.00 - TV Ingersoll Bühl vs. TV Rottenburg, one-camera-stream
Bühl had a very tiring programm in the last week with 3 away matches, including their CEV cup match in France. Maybe thats the chance for Rottenburg.

11.12.14 - 20.00 - VfB Friedrichshafen vs. BR Volleys, match of the day and "full production"
Lately, both teams could gain confidence with good performances in Bundesliga and CL. So hopefully we will see a tight match on a good level :teach:

    Game over for Dresden.
By todays decision, the club has been excluded from cup and league. Lüneburg will play, probably next week, against 2nd division team of Fellbach, who lost to Dresden in round of 16. Thats a bit strange, but as vbl says, that it is according to the leagues statutes.

From the outside, it looks like this could have been easily avoided with a bit of a will to compromise and some common sense. As far as i understand, it wasn't really the lack of money but some legal issues within the club organisation, which led to this situation. :wall:

  • Great night in the gym? Setting new PRs? :)

VfB is leading 2:0. In second set they already led 8:0 and 12:2. Berlin made to 22:22 again, than a bad call from ref to 22:24.

Hope there will be at least another 2 sets.....

  • How unprofessional is the vbl... the draw was a joke in the corner of the hall. with full production the draw can be hold on the center of the court. first the camera was too late for the first bowl. then the camera was wobbly.

  • 11.12.14 - 20.00 - VfB Friedrichshafen vs. BR Volleys 3:0 (25:22, 25:23, 27:25)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2014-15/Men/&7015.pdf

I hoped for some more sets....
Kromm was underperforming for Berlin such as Carroll. Berlin's power servers had a bad day too and on the other side, especially Geiler threw some bombs. In second set Lebedew brought Kühner and Dünnes for Shoji and Carroll. Especially Dünnes did better than Carroll but it didn't help. In the end of second set and at matchball in third, Berlin was a bit unlucky with two controversial/wrong calls but they should blame themselves first for loosing straight.

For Vfb, Grebennikov had a good match again after he struggled a bit in the beginning of the season.

Btw, did i miss the coaches interviews after the match? I think there wasn't any ?(

  • Just watched the match of BRV. To my delight Kuhner played the whole match and led the team to win. However I would like to say that Kuhner's setting still needs some polishing. But it's good to see him play!

Big match ahead against Resovia I guess Kuhner will be the sub server again. BTW I definitely think he did a much better job in serving and attacking rather than setting.

Don't know much about Duren. Sounds like there's an American player in this team who's the leading scorer. However, I didn't pay much attention.

Kühner has in fact more playing time this year than in the years before. He is, in deed, a great server and blocker. But as you say, his setting skills are, at best, mediocre. So i always include Lukas Kampa`s health in my evening prayers..... :obey: 8)

To be honest, i am not the biggest fan of Kawika Shoji as well. Somehow, something is missing in his game and i can't really describe what it is. For me , he is rather stagnating and If he wants to make the next step and become a true world class player i think he still has to improve a lot.

Wait wait wait.... the match between BRV and VfB was not the German Cup final?
Aren't those two the top teams in German league and they were not seeded?

This is so funny. Top ranking team got knocked out at QFs...

    ?(
Well, that is the way the Cup is traditionally played in almost every other sport in Germany. There are open draws and imo its fine as it is. If you want to win the cup you have to beat them all, whether in quarter-final or in the "final".

Of course, the federation would have an easier job to promote a final Berlin vs. Friedrichshafen, but playing a final on big stage in front of 10.000 people might motivate and help teams like Düren/Bühl/Lüneburg to grow and close the gap to Friedrichshafen/Berlin step by step.
    Wishful thinking, i know.......

  • Lüneburg wins again. They really play an impressive season.

Yes they are really doing well so far.
I only watched parts of yesterday match and it wasn' really pretty but if you consider that they played without their usual starters Scott Kervorken (MB), Falko Steinke (Op) and Erik Mattson (L) then this victory is really worth a lot.

What are your thoughts on Berlin's season so far?

Important win for Düren who are back in their race for third place again. Prolingheuer had a great game for them, whereas Kostolani struggled as starting opposite for Bühl and was subbed early for Buchegger. By the numbers, he did a decent job then. Bühl probably missed "Nemo" Mote as well. I don't know, if he was injured?
