Germany - Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL) 2015/16

  • It is again Berlin vs. United Volleys. This time, it is a league match.

Unfortunately, Jan Zimmermanns injury seems to be more serious than initially though and he will probabbly be out for a longer time. I would be surprised, if they can repeat their good match from wednesday.

    Match just started: http://sportdeutschland.tv/vbl…ing-vs-united-rheinmain_2

  • Matches today, 19th december, live on http://www.vbl.tv:

    18.30 Netzhoppers vs. Coburg
    19.00 Herrsching vs. Berlin
    19.30 Mitteldeutschland vs. United Volleys
    20.00 Lüneburg vs. Rottenburg
    20.00 Bühl vs. Düren

Tonight will be my first visit in Lüneburg this season. so both teams should rather show a good performance :teach: . I already stated that Rottenburg were quite unlucky so far in this season. They are better than their actual ranking position so i expect a tight match. Bühl vs. Düren should be a good match too and then lets see whether Bavaria can somehow break prussian dominance 8) In their teaser for todays match they make a little reference to "Star wars". May the force be with them :super: : https://www.facebook.com/GCDWH…143780258/?type=2&theater

United Volleys were quite unlucky with the injury of main setter Jan Zimmermann. His replacement Jannis Hopt (19 years) is not ready (yet?) for higher standards. They will surely drop some positions in ranking, if Zimmermann has to stay out for a longer time.

    Düren vs. Friedrichshafen

Lüneburg played quite well against Rottenburg who were really poor in the first two sets. Mainly reception was a big issue for them. They fought back in the third but couldn't keep that level longer. Lüneburgs canadian OH duo DelBianco/Marshall looks really nice. The only problem for Lüneburg was connection between the youngsters A.Kocian and Jannik Pörner.
For Rottenburg, it was good to see that Tom Strohbach is in a good shape. He was easily best player for Rottenburg, maybe even best player on court

    Ranking:
    1. Berlin (9-0) 27
    2. United Volleys (7-3) 21
    3. Friedrichshafen (6-2) 18

    Düren vs. Friedrichshafen

    :teach:
Both teams have shown quite decent matches in league and in european competitions lately, so i hope this is going to be a good match.
Key player for Düren will be chilean opposite Sebastian Gevert. If he has a good day, he is hard to stop.
For Vfb it will be interesting to see whether connection between Eksi and his attackers improved. He is a rather "creative" setter but at times he just went over the top with it. Imo, a bit more solidity and accuracy would suit the team better.

Düren just threw this set away, friedrichshafen didn't even need to play well. I wonder, why Matt West is not setting for Düren? And where is Gevert?

  • Results:
    Netzhoppers vs. Coburg 3:0 (25:23,25:20,25:12)

Besides the naked result one has to see that the return of the Jedi Sebastian Krause (German OH from Stroitel Minsk, BLR) gave them quite a boost and will continue doing so.
Interesting match on Wednesday, Jan. 13th in Herrching, which will be a "6 points match" for sure.

  • United Volleys.. I don't remember such Club from previous season from the League and Euro Cups in past.

The club is new in first league. They played their first season in first league. In the past the club played in second league wit the home town Rüsselheim. Now they are palying in Frankfurt. Not far away from their old spot.

  • The club (or project) got the license from TG Rüsselsheim who got promoted from 2nd league after last season. Calling yourself "United Volleys" and playing in Frankfurt is so much bigger than just being TG Rüsselsheim and playing in Rüsselsheim :D

... and they are doing a very good job at the moment ... and not only on sportive side.
For German Volleyball it would be important, that this project works ... and not to be just a flash-in-the-pan like others ...

  • Berlin vs. Lüneburg 3:1 (27:25, 25:16, 18:25, 25:22)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2015-16/Men/&1054.pdf

Tight match in Berlin and a wasted chance for Lüneburg. The absence of Robert Kromm appeared to be a big problem for Berlin. Obviously neither Ruben Schott nor De Marchis can replace him adequately. Playing like this, they won't reach anything in CL....

I wonder why Hübner left out Michel Schlien in the first two sets. Only physical problems can be an explanation. Schlien made a huge step forward this year and is consistently showing great performances. He is surely one of the best MBs in Bundesliga this year. Yesterday, Lüneburg still missed Steven Marshall and Falko Steinke. If they will return, Lüneburg will be very competetive....

My first hand impressions: Very good team effort by Lüneburg. Yesterday they had almost no weak link. Spanish setter Mora Sabate and canadian OH Del Bianco delivered some excellence as well. Bühl couldn't handle Lüneburgs pressure from the service line, the small hall probably helped. Overall, Lüneburg simply had better quality on court, especially difference on OH position was decisive (Marshall/Del Bianco vs. Sandmeier/Sossenheimer).

  • Some interesting matches tonight:

    18.30 Netzhoppers vs. Rottenburg
Highest time for Rottenburg to get away from relegation zone

    19.30 Friedrichshafen vs. United Volleys
Jan Zimmermann might give his comeback after injury. I would enjoy seeing an away victory in this match.

    20.00 Bühl vs. Berlin
Berlin hasn't impressed much lately so Bühl, like against Friedrichshafen, might have chances.

    20.00 Lüneburg vs. Herrsching
Clash of cultures in Lüneburg. North vs. South or "Lederhosen vs. "Gummistiefel".
Lüneburgs players made a clear statement concerning their thoughts on "Lederhosen"

You mean chocolate with fish aroma?

So it finally happened, Berlin is loosing the first match/points of the season. Somehow you could see it coming during last weeks. The tight result in Friedrichshafen and Lüneburgs recent good performances make hope for good playoff matches this year.

It is getting really dangerous for Rottenburg :white: . They lose almost every tight set/match :wall: -

Like predicted before the season we see a very balanced league. There are almost no easy victories abroad. At the moment, even Berlin and Friedrichshafen can't allow to take it easy.

Berlin might play with Robert Kromm again, which could improve them considerably. If they will win this match, they can almost book the first place after regular season. Friedrichshafen lately looked improved, mainly due to Simon Tischers return. So i am really hoping for an open match....

Another great news is the new presentation of statistics on the vbl site. I haven't worked through all opportunities yet, but the first impression is really great and it looks like a major improvement. All data come from a single source which makes them comparable and more trustworthy. Furthermore you can select between teamrankings and single player rankings for almost every position and playing action. I am really impressed :obey:

  • Big match today in berlin: http://sportdeutschland.tv/vbl…-vs-vfb-friedrichshafen-8

Tight first set, which Friedrichshafen can take home. Moculescu today is fielding a very experienced side. Geiler, Andrae, Tischer Gontariu....
For berlin so far, too much depends on Paul Carroll, lotman rather disappoints. Second set will start with Robert Kromm.
