  • At Polish side good job by Kubiak, Kurek and Bociek. I don't understand why Anastasi took Bociek out after three sets and put Bartman in :gone: again MBs with low amounts of points  Now Polish NT is coming back for Wagner's Memorial, then OH Michał Ruciak and MB Łukasz Wiśniewski will join team. From this 16 Anastasi will choose group for Euro Volley.

  • Tonight, Belgium won the first game in a series of 3 consecutive preparation games against Czech Republic: 3-1 (-20, 29-, -22, -20 ? could be off by a few points)

    Czech Republic starting line-up:
    1. Tichachek 2. Stokr 3 Sykory 4. Konecny 5. Baranek 6. Holubec (lib: Juraka)

In set 2: Boula replace Tichachek and Hudecek replaced Baranek - both to stay in the field for the remainder of the game.

    Belgian starting line-up:
    1. Depestele 2. Deroo 3. VandeVoorde 4. Van den Dries 5. Verhees 6. Verhanneman (lib: Dejonckheere)

I'm not convinced by this experiment to use Stokr for serve reception: this is simply too easy to exploit tactically by the other team and he's not making up for it in scoring percentage.
I can imagine it's though to choose between Konecny and Stokr for the opposite position, but it feels like the coach is simply avoiding that choice.
Czech team is lacking consistency: powerful serving (Konecny - Stokr - Houba) - Houba succesfully using a lot his middle attackers - but overall too many errors.

The Belgian team was mostly relying on Deroo and, to a lesser extent, Van den Dries to score the important points. Block-defense was good, serving could be better still.
Depestele was finding Deroo from every angle, a joy to watch. I would have liked to see Verhees get more involved in attack (hardly got 5 attacks in total).
Dejonckheere overall great in defense and serve reception, Gert-Jan Claes was only briefly on court to deliver a perfect serve reception on a huge serve from Stokr at set point - respect!

Belgium team currently is composed as follows:
    Setters: Frank Depestele, Tim Verschueren
Opposite: Bram Van den Dries, Gert Van Walle, Hendrik Tuerlinckx
Middle: Simon Van de Voorde, Pieter Verhees, Pieter Coolman
Outside: Sam Deroo, Mathijs Verhanneman, Gert-Jan Claes, Kevin Klinkenberg, Tomas Rousseaux
    Libero: Stijn Dejonckheere, Bert Derkoningen

Coach Bayens announced he would make his final selection of 14 players by the end of this campaign against Czech Republic.
This means he has to eliminate one single player, probably one of the 5 outside hitters.
