  • Which region does Gubernia refer to?
Which country will be in the same pool as Bulgaria?

  • Gubernia is a Russian Superleague (highest level) team, coached by Plamen Konstantinov. They attended a training camp in Bulgaria at the same time, hence they agreed to participate in the two friendlies. They are based in Nizhny Novgorod otherwise.

Bulgaria is in a qualification pool with the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Cyprus. The tournament will be held in Opava, Czech Rep. I had some worries based on the team's current form, but as I see the Netherlands and the Czech Rep. are not much more impressive either (losing twice 0-3 to France and Slovakia respectively). Slovakia might be the pleasant surprise of the qualifiers, they have a home advantage in another pool.

Just for your information, Zhekov missed yesterday's convincing 3-0 win against Turkey due to a minor problem. Penchev is down with flu, he was out. Yosifov didn't play either, he also has some issues. Fortunately, Skrimov was back, his problem was not that serious.

  • Maybe Because your federation decided to host the women's tournament. apparently each country can host only one tournament.

Yes, I forgot about that. We can't have it all :)

  • Yesterday were some friendly matches of NT's. Today are.

  • Bulgaria - Netherlands 0:3 (19:25, 19:25, 23:25). I've never seen our team playing with no desire to win before . We played with a lot of players not on the level for the NT, but the bad thing is that they didn't even try. Only Aleksiev fought as a real lider. Netherlands used a lof ot heavy serving and powerful spikes from Kooy and Klapwijk, and from Nimir (serves).

  • It has become something as a pattern. Bulgaria playing really bad in friendlies i mean.

  • The didn't play bad - they didn't play at all.

According to the stats only two players spiked points from all who played:

  • Bulgaria - Iran 3:2
Penchev and Mousavi are the rock stars. Bulgaria with better serving, and defense, but no blocking, which is weird for us.

  • Bulgaria - Iran 1:3 (26:24) - (16:25) - (15:25) - (21:25)

Placi let all young players to play. Players who didn't play - Sokolov, Aleksiev, Penchev and Yosifov - al with health troubles. This match showed that we play bad volleyball with good players, we lack defense organization, speed setting, variety of attacks both as setting and spiking skils. When the big guns don't play we are helpless. Iran from the other side looked like Brazil in 2002-2006 compared to us - digging, setting, team spirit and organization were great. We compеnsate lack of skill and inteligence with physic and individual greatness and that is simply not enough. We need smarter people to train our youth, not to cast them away with Lazarov and the other corrupt and stupid bosses in the federation.

P.S. Krasimir Georgiev played very well - spiking and blocking. I see a new Todorov for our team, but with strong serve and better health overall :)
P.S.P.S. The Iranian opposite spiked a lot over our block, I was impressed.
