  • When Bulgaria is going to play friendlies with Slovakia and will it be official and possible to watch?

I don't know for sure. They say it should be on the third weekend before the start of the ECH. Which theoretically means this weekend. I highly doubt you would be able to watch it/them, but I will let you know if there is such a possibility.

    I would love that :flower:

    vs. Slovakia - 27 & 28 September
    vs. Serbia - 2 & 3 October

The first one against Slovakia will be played in a smaller hall behind closed doors, whereas the second will be in Armeets Arena and open for fans.

  • Germany vs. Finnland 3:2 (25-13, 22-25, 25-20, 21-25, 17-15)
Best german scorers: Christian Fromm (24), Jochen Schöps (15)

A lot of experimenting from german side. Grozer and Kaliberda didn't play, Fromm partly switched to Opposite. Every other player got court time.

  • Belgium - Estonia: 2-3
    (27-25,22-25,20-25,27-17,13-15)

Belgium lost its first of three consecutive friendly games against Estonia.

    Belgian starting line-up: Depestele-Van Walle, Verhees-Van de voorde, Deroo-Klinkenberg
    Estonia: Toobal-Venno, Tammemaa-Aganits,Puppart-Taht

    A few observations:
    - Van de voorde seems to be recovering fine from his injury (got injured in Italian PO last season): dominating in block, efficient and attack
    - Van Walle had good and bad moments: surprisingly, not the best understanding with Depestele (altough in same team last season)
    - Deroo seams in good shape, well rested: fired some rockets from the serve line, always a good indication
    - Verhees solid in block and very efficient in attack. His server remains his weak point
    - Depestele: emphasis on middle attack, good serve, interaction with Van Walle could have been better
    - Dejonckheere: solid reception, defense as expected
    - Klinkenberg: a little hestitant, not a lot of confidence: mistakes in reception, weak in serve, not very reliable in attack.

    Substitutions:
    - Van den Dries played for 2,5 sets: a lot of confidence, great in serve, on fire in attack.
    - Baetens: a lot of enthousiasm, but volley at international level is a bit too much for him (struggles with single block of Kreek).
    - Verhanneman: seems not recovered from injury. Weak in serve and attack.
    - Rousseaux: 3 errors in serve reception, but much stronger in attack (than Klinkenberg, Verhanneman, Baetens).
Rousseaux should fill in second wing-reception spot next to Deroo.

For the upcoming EC, 2 main choices remain:
=> Depestele, Van de Voorde, Verhees, Deroo are inevitable.
    - who will fill in second wing-reception spot next to Deroo (imo, should be Rousseaux, 3 others unable to convince at this point)
    - who will take opposite position: Van Walle or Van den Dries

    Estland:
I like this team: enjoyable to watch, much enthousisasm.
Best player, by far, was Robert Täht. He measures only 188cm, but boy, so much energy:
kept serving very strong consistenly for 5 sets, got a lot of sets on position 4 and from the back (position 6).
Eventually, he scored 24 points with a high percentage.
I'm going to keep an eye on this player, very interesting.
Slow start from Venno: only started scoring from second set on.

  • Germany vs. Finnland 3:2 (25-13, 22-25, 25-20, 21-25, 17-15)

    Second match:
    Germany vs. Finland 3:2 (25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 17-25, 15-9)
Best german scorers: Grozer(21), Strohbach (16)
According to federations match report, from third set on, Heynen used Schöps as MB. 8|

Next week we will probably see less experiments. Germany will play a tournament in Ludwigsburg with France, Serbia and Slovenia.
    Schedule:
    25.9.: SRB – SLO (17.00) & GER – FRA (20.00)
    26.9.: GER – SLO (17.00) & SRB –FRA (20.00)
    27.9.: FRA –SLO (14.00) & GER – SRB (17.00)

All matches will be streamed by http://www.laola1.tv

  • TimHH, what is your opinion on this German team? I understand experimenting and stuff, but going to tiebreaks against Finland is a little bit worrying...

Actually i am not worried. Finnland is an OK team and beating them while giving all players court time and making some experiments is rather a good than a bad sign.
Hard to say anything more, they haven't played very competitive matches since last WCH. We will probably be smarter after next week.

  • Belgium - Estonia 2:3 (27-25,22-25,20-25,27-17,13-15)
    Belgium - Estonia 0:4 (21-25, 27-29, 23-25, 26-28 )
    Belgium - Estonia 3:2 25-20, 25-16, 19-25, 24-26, 17-15

What is going on with Belgium? They seemed to be on their way up, but for quite a while now they are rather stagnating or even getting worse......

    25.9.: SRB – SLO (17.00) & GER – FRA (20.00)
    26.9.: GER – SLO (17.00) & SRB –FRA (20.00)

    • 25/09 - Belgium - Finland: 0 - 3 (25-27, 20-25, 18-25)

    line-ups on thursday

    • Tervaportii - Ojansivu | Kunnari - Sivula | Siirila - Sinkkonen
    • Valkiers - Van den Dries | Klinkenberg - Deroo | Verhees - Van de Voorde

    - on Friday

    • Tervaportii - Seppanen | Siltala - Lehtonen | M.Oivanen - Shumov
    • Depestele - Van Walle | Baetens - Deroo | Verhees - Coolman

This is getting very worrying: Belgium team barely manages to win 1 out of 3 games against Estland last week.
Now, they lose two times in straight sets against Finland (after winning all 4 games against Finland in last World League).

This Belgian team is on track for a quick exit in the upcoming EC.
Any opponent seems to be too strong at this point.
Poland and Slovenia are favourites in their poule and Belarus will be tough as well.
In previous editions, Belgium always managed to score a surprise win (EC2007: against Poland, EC2011 against France, EC2013 against Italy), but that seems very unlikely now.

Apparently, Depestele injured a finger in tonight's game, so that's not gonna help either.

  • Germany vs. France 1:3 (22-25, 21-25, 25-19, 20-25)
Best moment of the match was, when Kampa came back in third set, after he fell and had to be subbed in the second.... :obey:

France was clearly the better team today and there is still a lot of polishing needed for the german team. Schwarz was really weak and got subbed in the second set for Strohbach. Fromm didn't start good but later became a little bit better. Kaliberda was enlisted as libero but didn't play at all. His skills and attitude is deeply needed and i hope he will be back healthy and in shape soon.
On the positive side there was a very good Grozer and, at times, Block/Service. But both not very consistently too.

For France, ngapeth was outstanding and as soon as they reached working temperature, they looked great as usual in defence and transition. My only critical point from todays match is their dependancy on Ngapeth. All other wing-spikers were really silent in attack. Toniuttis play with the middles was awsome though....
