  • You are correct FB going into this tournament as a wildcard, but they have picked up seven new players and a new coach. I expect a return match on the final where this time FB will beat the previous european champion and become the world's champion

No, there is a Wild Card. I've seen the invitation on FBTV.

  • it really doesn't matter because FB could beat all of the above and place some fear in their opponents for the European and Turkish championship tournaments. This is not last year's team there are 7 additional superstars that could reinvent volleyball<IMG onmouseover="this.style.cursor='pointer'" title=lol style="CURSOR: pointer" onclick="tinyMCE.insertSmiley('../wcf/images/smilies/happy.gif', 'lol', '');" alt="" src="http://www.inside-volley.com/wcf/images/smilies/happy.gif" />

  • hehehe, definelty, With Thaigo Silva there, the team will won another supporter..hehehe

Sollys is a very good team, with good players, and they play together for many time now, but they have a main problem in my opinion that is setter. If Fenerbahçe play with full squad I think you wont have much problems. Osasco is a strong team but sometimes they just lost their way, and loose some games you will never imagine they would loose, so they have some ups and downs.

The tournament is just next month... Sollys might have a chance as players are used to play together.
It might be interesting to see finally a brazilian team facing Bergamo. It's just a pitty Bergamo lost some important players.

As FIVB invited FB I just wished they could do the same and invite Dinamo.

  • Fivb site released the rosters of the teams....but I guess has some mistakes, well not mistakes, but maybe the teams had to give them a bigger number of players, cause I know in Osasco Elisangela wont play, and I suppose in Federbrau, that are players that has signed with Kazan like Onuma, and with turkish teams right? So I dont think they will play for Federbrau the championship, only if there is something in their contract, but would be weird.

    Anyway, the lists -

    Pool A:

    Sollys Osasco (BRA) - http://www.fivb.org/en/volleyb…p?Team=SOO&Tourn=WWCC2010

    Fenerbahçe (TUR) - http://www.fivb.org/en/volleyb…p?Team=IST&Tourn=WWCC2010

    Federbrau (THA) - http://www.fivb.org/en/volleyb…p?Team=FED&Tourn=WWCC2010

    Pool B:

    Foppapedretti Bergamo (ITA) - http://www.fivb.org/en/volleyb…p?Team=FOP&Tourn=WWCC2010

    Mirador (DOM) - http://www.fivb.org/en/volleyb…p?Team=MIR&Tourn=WWCC2010

    Kenya Prisons (KEN) - http://www.fivb.org/en/volleyb…p?Team=KEP&Tourn=WWCC2010

Mirador its a very good team, praticly the Dominican NT. they can make it harder for the others.

  • Piccinini: Doha offers special opportunity for Bergamo

Lausanne, Switzerland, November 25, 2010 – Bergamo captain Francesca Piccinini said that the 2010 FIVB Women's Club World Championship would be a "special adventure" for the Italian club as they step up their preparations for the tournament, which takes place in Doha, Qatar from December 15-21.

Bergamo qualified for the competition after winning their seventh CEV Champions League earlier this year, and following the return of the women's World Club Championship for the first time since 1994, they will now be going for the top honour in club Volleyball.

"I have played a lot of games, with Foppapedretti Bergamo and Italy, but the FIVB Club World Championship will be a new and special occasion from all the others," Piccinini, a member of Italy's 2010 FIVB Women's World Championship squad, said. "Myself and all the Norda Foppapedretti players have a great enthusiasm and a great desire to go to Doha. We are a little tired, because we have worked with the national team up until one week ago, but the desire to begin this special adventure is spurring us on."

The team is predominantly made up of Italian players, with Iuliana Roxana Nucu of Romania and Elitsa Vasileva of Bulgaria the only foreign players going to Doha in a squad led by new coach Davide Mazzanti who joined the club earlier this year.

"We will have a great opportunity and it will be a great World Championship for players, coaches and above all for Norda Foppapedretti Bergamo, a club with a great history," Mazzanti said. "We know the teams we will face and from next week we will be able to finally work together."

Mazzanti has been without captain Piccinini and her fellow Italian internationals Eleonora Lo Bianco, Serena Ortolani, Lucia Bosetti and Valentina Arrighetti following their return from the Women's World Championship where they finished fifth. "The games in the Champions League and in the Italian championship will help prepare us for the competition in Qatar," the coach added. "Playing in great matches is the best training there is."

  • Federbrau ready to test mettle against best

Bangkok, Thailand, November 25, 2010 – Despite winning the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship on the last two occasions, Thailand’s Federbrau face a daunting task when they arrive in Doha, Qatar for the 2010 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship, set to run from December 15-21.

The club has been playing together under the same banner for many years but has only recently burst into prominence following their maiden victory at the 10th Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand in 2009 after a rousing 3-2 win over China’s Tianjin Bridgestone in the final. Powerful Onuma Sittirak was selected the Most Valuable Player at the tournament, while three more individual awards including Best Server (Nootsara Tomkom) and Best Spiker (Onuma Sittirak) were also won by Federbrau.

The same year saw Federbrau perform superbly to win two other major titles, including their debut success in the biennial Princess Cup Women’s Volleyball Invitation.

Fielding dominant forces, including Wilavan Apinyapong, Pluemjit Thinkaow and Amphon Hyapha, the side again proved their talents by successfully defending their Asian Women’s Club Championship title earlier this year in Gresik, Surabaya in Indonesia, methodically brushing off Kazakhstan’s Zhetyssu Almaty in an action-packed four-set battle in the final. They also won three individual awards including Best Scorer and Best Spiker for Onuma Sittirak and the MVP award for setter Nootsara Tomkom.

The scintillating win has earned Thailand’s Federbrau the right to represent Asia against five other teams at the resurrected FIVB Women’s Volleyball Club World Championship.

Though the Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai’s girls made the cut for the top-flight competition, he is well aware that the other five teams are all formidable rivals to be reckoned with and concedes that it will not be an easy ride for Federbrau.

“All teams that qualified for the championship are very strong,” Kiattipong commented. “They represent each continent despite the fact that they are from a club team. Undoubtedly, they have played together for years. Each participating team is star-studded, with highly-experienced players from different powerhouse countries joining them.

“Federbrau is represented by all Thai national players who have been competing together for many years under the same banner,” he added. “We don’t have any strong foreign players in our team while the other sides are full of powerful hitters, taller blockers and skilful players. As they all have more individual talents, we are underdogs compared with them. However, we are ready to test our mettle against those rivals with all what we have. Since we have never played each team before, I think it’s very hard to set a real goal in this championship. We just want to do our best and try to win one match at a time. Though Federbrau are not big team, we are very determined to play tough with every team no matter what the final result will be,” he concluded.

This sentiment is echoed by captain Wilavan Apinyapong, who is also optimistic about the FIVB Women’s Volleyball Club World Championship.

“As far as I know, every team is very strong, especially Sollys Osasco from Brazil and Italy’s Bergamo,” she commented. “Our initial expectation is, therefore, to finish in the top two at the end of the pool round-robin preliminaries so that we can revive our fortunes in the semi-finals against much stronger opponents. We are ready to go with our best effort and don’t care much about the results.”
