Japan was leading all the time in tiebreak until 12:9, then Germany turned the match around thanks to some attacks of Friederike Thieme, best scorer of Germany with 17 points. Also Patricia Grohmann performed well according to Christiane Fürst's interview...

  • 3rd match GER-JPN 0:3 (22-25, 23-25, 22-25, extra set 25-13)

GER: Kathleen Weiß, Kathy Radzuweit, Berit Kauffeldt, Maren Brinker, Heike Beier, Margareta Kozuch, Lisa Thomsen (L) plus Denise Hanke, Anne Matthes, Regina Burchardt
Japan: Hitomi Nakamichi, Ai Yamamoto, Nana Iwasaka, Risa Shinnabe, Yukiko Ebata, Maiko Kano, Kanari Hamaguchi (L).

Best scorers: Maren Brinker 18, Heike Beier 15; Yukiko Ebata 16 (I don't know if this refers to 3 or 4 sets, I suppose 3).

    GER: 8 serve error, 3 aces, 9 blocks, 41 % attack
    JPN: 7 serve errors, 2 aces, 4 blocks, 44 % attack

Saskia Hippe did not play in this match and in the previous match, Regina Burchardt played as 2nd opposite. Hippe's performance in Montreux also was quite disappointing, she'll have to improve a lot to secure her spot in the team...
According to the interviews, the attacks from position 4 worked well today and only small things like too many simple mistakes made the difference in today's match.

Margareta Kozuch played her 200th NT match today :flower:

  • 5 minute video report from 2nd match GER-JPN: http://www.tv-sport-in-berlin.…and_gegen_Japan-1785.html

Even in this short video it becomes obvious how interesting the matches between these teams must have been.

I was in Bremen yesterday and Berit Kauffeldt and Kathy Radzuweit were really weak. Maren Brinker was the best on the field, together with Heike Beier. Germany started well all three sets but at the end some mistakes.

  • Thanks for the info :) Maybe you can tell some more about the match? For example, how was Regina Burchardt as Opposite? It's not her usual position.

Berit Kauffeldt is another one of the "eternal talents" as I like to call them. Lena Möllers, Sarah Petrausch, Berit Kauffeldt, Anja Brandt, also Saskia Hippe...all of them were considered great talents 2-3 years ago, played in Senior NT already with 17-18 years, but all of them don't manage to achieve the transition from a "talent" into a really good player. Talents are important but they don't win matches, only good players can do that. Maybe they are good players in German league, but that's not enough for NT. Other players like Corina Ssuschke and especially now Frieda Thieme never were such big talents when they were young, but now they show very good performance.

Burchardt was only playing in fourth set, and I didn't know it was her normal position, she did well.
Kauffeldt was weak in attack and defence and the combination with setter wasn't good, only denise Hanke was playing well with her.
In last minutes one of the Japanese girls was injured and going to hospital.Anybody know how she is now?
