FIVB World Club Championship 2016

  • Actual Participants:

    * Philippine SuperLiga Selection - Hosts
    * Bangkok Glass - AVC Champion

Probably CEV Champion, CSV Champion and 2 Wild Cards.

  • Here it says two Brazilian teams will participate...maybe the champion from South American Championship and a wild card?! It will probably go to Osasco...

  • If there is a wild card to Brazilian....It should go to Praia. Osasoc always recieves the wild card! ALWAYS for any tournament....but Praia this season is showing much better season and it was the finalist in the Brazil Cup..

  • A WORLD championship without CAVB and NORCECA team's, this competition is getting more nonsense year by year.

For the CAVB teams it is cost prohibitive to have them travel incredibly long distances. When the Club World championships were in Qatar, it is a "short direct flight." For NORCECA, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico are the ones with a Pro League, but still at a very low level, so the travel to the Philippines is also out of their salary range.

I think that if Japan, Korea or China hosted to tournament, that it probably would be better than the Philippines. I know the the FIVB is trying to grow the game in developing countries, but the Philippine League team will get slaughtered, compared to a Chinese, Korean or Japanese team and they are playing in the tournament.

The USA could send their best college team, but it would be during the NCAA season, which would not work. The 2 European, 2 Brazilian and 2 Asian Teams, Plus 2 Wild Cards is about as good as you can do.

  • Norceca has always had 1 spot. Mirador qualified a few times in the past few years, in 2013 it was Iowa Ice from USA and another time one from Puerto Rico.

A NCAA team would have no chance at all to compete because of the low level and low experience.

  • Usually only 6 teams compete, not 8.

  • NCAA isn't a pro league, so they shouldn't play.

At the moment just Porto Rico runs a pro league in North America, so they should invite the winner year by year. USA has PVL, but it lasts few days and it's more like a pro tournament than league.

  • What happened to the Dominican Republic and Cuba`s league?

As far as I know Cuba has an amateur league, which is played by provincial teams. And very often pronvices skips the season and their players go to another team. Mexico has got another amateur league with provincial teams. I'm not so sure about Dominican Republic, but it is probably amateur like the others. Porto Rico has the only pro league in North America.

  • I think you are wrong.

Cuba and Dominican Republic has professfinal volleyball leagues.

If the players are getting paid that is called pro and not amature.

A lot of the Dominicans are playing aboard this season, but they usually all play at home. Same for the Cubans.

And the Leagues from Dominican Republic and Cuba are still stronger than Puerto Rico`s. Only americans go to play in Puerto Rico when they can`t find club anywhere else.

And if you wanna call them amature, then you could add a lot of Europeans Leagues for example, such as France, Germany, Switzerland where they have only "1 team" and all the others are really weak.

If Domincan Republic team`s are amature? How come Mirador has played at the Club Championship?

  • You're wrong. Provincial teams can't be called pro teams, come on! Even chinese league was considerated amateur before Lang Ping started the pro era with Guangdong Hengda. And no, dominican and cuban local teams are far from the portorican ones.

Porto Rico is the first step for mostly american players just getting out from the NCAA for many reasons. LVSF starts in january, NCAA ends in dicember. Porto Rico is a USA territory. Portoricans talk english. The island is very close to the USA. And so on.

Cuban players always wanted to play abroad, which is the reason why an elite NT in both men's and women's volleyball struggles by now... Their local teams aren't really good. And don't forget the Federation allowed the most talented player to go abroad this season, in order to not lose them as well.

  • OMG you are so clueless.

Mirador is a team from Domincan Republic and they are called a professinal volleyball team for example, and so are all the teams in Cuba and D.Republic.

Maybe you should at least google next time you wanna say something OK>... google about which countries has a professional volleyball league.

Well, Cuba is even closer to the USA than Puerto Rico :dance6: :dance6: :dance6: :dance6: :dance6:

and the primary language in P.Rico is still Spanish.

Im sorry, but Im done talking about this. :offtopic: :offtopic: :offtopic: :offtopic: :offtopic: :offtopic:

  • One more thing, Cubans want to play overseas because they can get paid more, and not because the clubs are not good.

  • I'm sorry, but Im pretty sure cubans leave Cuba cause there is no way to live there properly. They have access to nothing...they can't give a good life to their family playing in Cuba.

the way you say it it like they go away to gain more money...Its like you convicting them to wanna have a better life and actually live from what they love to do that is playing volleyball. In Cuba they can't live from playing volleyball...Its jut not enough.
