FIVB U23 World Championship - 2017 |

  • So... Brazil and Slovenia are pretty much locked in the semifinals and the last spots should go to either Bulgaria/Turkey and China/D. Republic, right?

Yes... a resource saving skipping the Quarterfinal stage directly move into the Semifinals :D

    Quote

The competition will feature 12 teams and will run over seven days with one rest day.

The 12 teams will be divided into two pools of six teams each and will play a round-robin tournament to determine the ranking from first to sixth.

The top two teams in both pools will progress to the semifinals and finals. The third and fourth placed teams from the pool stage will enter a similar playoff format playing for classification from fifth to eighth.

DOM v CHN and TUR v BUL practically will determine the Pool runner-ups. Don't think other teams can make any upset.

  • WOW, The BUL team is so strong... the BRA team was just beaten 0-4 (10 - 15; 5 - 15; 14 - 16; 9 - 15) thus BUL advances into the SF (unless there's some upset); most likely accompanied by BRA.

TUR needs to win all the remaining matches incl. against BUL to vie for the 2nd place (unless BRA suffers an upset from the weaker teams).

  • The CHN U23 just said "Zài Jiàn" means "Goodbye" to the World Championship after being crushed 0-4 by DOM ... DOM won 15 - 10; 15 - 13; 15 - 3; 15 - 10

SLO & DOM from Pool A will play in the SF.

  • Jin Ye proved that she is the best "OP" in ACH 2017.
Wu Sheng - no words to say

    CHN 4-2 Argentina [11-15,13-15,15-8,15-11,18-16,16-14]
China U23 still has the chance of semifinals.

My favourite roster of Chinese (in 2022)
    male NT:
    S - Yu Yao-chen, Chen Lei-yang
OP - Jiang Chuan, Dai Qing-yao
    OH - Zhang Jing-yin, Yu Yuan-tai, Liu Li-bin, Fu Hou-wen
    MB - Zhang Zhe-jia, Peng Shi-kun, Li Yong-zhen, Jiang Zhen-yang
    L - Yang Yi-ming, Yang Tian-yuan

    female NT:
    S - Yao Di, Diao Lin-yu
    OP - Gong Xiang-yu, Sun Xiao-xuan
    OH - Li Ying-ying, Wang Yi-fan, Wu Meng-jie, Zhuang Yu-shan
MB - Yuan Xin-yue, Wang Yuan-yuan, Zheng Yi-xin, Liu Yu
    L - Ni Fei-fan, Xu Jia-nan

Ha ha ha life is real... miracle is in one's own dream :D

TUR - BUL ... interesting to see whether or not TUR can turn over the table

BRA - CUB ... CUB ain't an easy team to deal with; this team can give a very good fight

So.... my very guess SLO v BRA and BUL vs DOM in the SF

Btw, the Age Under 23 but not yet a senior NT... rather an aging NT nowadays.

  • And Turkey is leading 3-0 agaisnt Bulgaria at the moment. Hope they can make it but if they beat Bulgaria, who will make it to semifinals? Brazil or Bulgaria?

    Yes TUR bt BUL 4 - 1 (15 - 9; 15 - 12; 15 - 11; 10 - 15; 15 - 13)

IF BRA gets 3 points in its match vs CUB then BRA with 12 points will advance; if just wins with 2 pts then both BRA & BUL will have 11 points then I dunno, at present BRA has better set ratio but Head-to-Head BUL beat BRA.

  • Brazil will just need to beat Cuba in any sets to advance since they will have better set ratio 16-8 to Bulgaria's 17-9 if they win 4-3 against Cuba.

  • And DOM proceeds to the semifinals as the runner-up of Pool A even though the team was beaten by THA 3 - 4 (15 - 9; 15 - 12; 12 - 15; 15 - 11; 12 - 15; 11 - 15; 18 - 20) in the last match for the better set ratio cf. CHN team.

Thus the SF will play SLO & DOM from Pool A and TUR & BRA (most likely) from Pool B; still have to wait for the last match BRA v CUB re which team to top the Pool B. BUL needs the miracle by CUB bt BRA :D

  • Turkey/Bulgaria & Slovenia/Dominican Republic

So Brazil lost 1-4 against Cuba :white: and lost their spot shockingly. Which leaves Turkey hopefully with a high chance for gold! :cup: Although Slovenia is on fire too ofc.

  • This is a complete disaster year for Brazilian U NTs....both female and male!

  • I don't like that U23 tournament is held in odd years for women. With current system, only the players who were born in odd years could play. Although it doesn't make any problem for male version, it makes things complicated for females. Female competitions are held as U18 and U20 whereas male ones are U19 and U21. Normally it is 94-95 generations' turn but since the tournament is held in odd year, the players who were born in 1994 can not play. That's why, either they should make it U22 or switch to even years.

  • WOW! The European teams are so strong; they are dominating the U23 World Championship... good sign for that continent since U23 is the closest age bracket to the NT state, just need one more step of metamorphosis.

Poor BRA, the outright reversal of WGP F6.... this time the dragon slayer, CUB beat them to save the BUL instead... what a way to miss the tournament at the very end after leading all the ways in pool position... surprise surprise.

Well, TUR will be the favourite to grab this title... a final against the host is the most likely outcome.
