So disappointing for the Venezuelan players who will not be able to play for the bronze against France today.

Found this article from one of the local newspaper about the Venezuelan team.

  • I would rather to say " sad".... Its government instability is affecting and reflecting to every single part of the country, and this doesn't exclude sports.... Despicable Communism/Socialism!...

Nope, it's a Socialism. No such Marxism/Communism nowadays after the collapse of Bolshevik movement and I think no one left except perhaps the dynastic-style North Korea.
It's a pitiful situation of that Latin America state after being departed from Hugo Chavez, the sharp downturn of oil price plus the endless efforts for Regime Change there. But no small country is able to remain stable with relentless instigation of domestic collaborators with the foreign supports, and situation is worsened by the economic embargo exerted by bigger economy. Only major nations can stand such interference. I hope the situation in Venezuela will stabilize, but as a heavily oil-dependent economy it will also need the miracle of seeing the oil price improvement in the near future.

  • Nakada is going with a lineup like she wants to win this one.

  • And that lineup is firing on all cylinders to start this match. Will they keep it up?

    Shinnabe is my new hero.

  • IF JPN win this last match vs RUS even 3-2 then IF BRA lose its last one vs USA then by win-loss it's JPN that will play in Nanjing. The SRB team is smart!

  • That Voronkova girl seems fairly quick and agile for someone who looks like they wouldn't be very quick and agile.

The Russian heavy bomber style! I prefer the sleek type like "Pritisova" :P :D She'll part of the core RUS team onward.

  • Frolova is playing as libero and not OH and they are leading 2-0. I wish they kept her as OH and Japan would easily win this one.

I`m wondering where`s Ushakov? maybe the trip to Kong Hong was too much for a 70 year old man to handle?

  • I can't believe the number of balls hitting the floor between the front line players and the back line against Japan. They're not playing Japanese volleyball. That's why they are losing so far. Blocking shmlocking.

  • WOW! Most likely the Japanese team will extend this match into five sets. And if they do win, it will put the Brazilian team much in pressure in their last match against the USA, a must-win situation!

  • The Japanese team are displaying their true undying Bushido fighting spirit, a quality that makes them mighty and fiercesome in the past... and still today.

  • Okumura and Shinnabe are having terrific games. If Japan could find their team defense rhythm they could pull this one out. No more 'I thought maybe you were going to get that one' brain fart moments.

  • From afar, Lazareva looked like Godina because of her hair. Her inclusion in the starting lineup seems to be paying off as she adds a much-needed firepower in Russia's attacks plus Voronkova is much more comfortable hitting in zone 4.

Kuzutkin is the head coach who's 70 year old, not Ushakov.

  • In their 3 last games, I notice the Japanese NT start "waking" up only in third set. Someone needs to tell this team the first two sets are not a warm up set.

  • Damn. Had ushakov challenged net touch, the point would have been theirs! Momentum swings in favor if Japan now.

  • Japan players delivered Congrats on the win.

  • Congrats to Japan :D To be honest I think I would rather see Japan in the finals, I have found their games this tournament to be quite a bit more entertaining than Brazils games. I like their never quit attitude!

  • Congratulations Japanese team for the heroic victory! Now the Brazilian team will step in court with anxiety, knowing must win to play in Nanjing.

Race to Nanjing - the current rank position:
