Women's World Grand Prix 2017

  • I would like to see Zhang Changning play as well. Just because.

This is my first Post-Olympics Grand Prix. Lots of fun and drama. Girls retiring, sitting one out, getting cut. Youngsters breaking in. I can't wait.

I'd also like to see more Li Yingying. That 2015 match needed more cameras. Since she's been cut from the GP roster do you think she'll play in the U20s?

  • 14 players of Thailand NT for week 1 and 2 are;

Setter: Nootsara Tomkom, Pornpun Kuedpard, Tichaya Boonlert
OH: Ajcharaporn Kongyot, Wilawan Apinyapong, Chatchu-on Moksri, Wipawee Srithong
    OPP: Pimpichaya Kokram, Tapaphaipun Chaisri
MB: Pleumjit Thinkaow (C), Hattaya Bamrungsuk, Jarasporn Bundasak
    LIB: Piyanut Pannoy, Supattra Pairoj

Onuma, Thatdao and Malika will not play for WGP 2017 due to injury and health problem.

    And from TVA press conference yesterday (3 Jul 17), WGP will rename to "Volleyball League Women" in 2018 with 16 teams competition which comprises of;
12 core teams: Brazil, Italy, USA, China, Serbia, South Korea, Netherlands, Thailand, Germany, Turkey, Japan and Russia
4 challenger teams: Argentina, Dominican Republic, Belgium and Poland

The competition will separate to 4 groups in 5 weeks for first round and has a final round. Every team will face up and 13th-16th ranking will be downgraded to division 2 in 2019.
Group competition for Thailand in 2018 is
Week 1: Thailand, Netherlands, Argentina and Russia
Week 2: Thailand, China, Poland and Serbia
Week 3: Thailand, Dominican, USA and Germany
Week 4: Thailand, Japan, Korea and Turkey
Week 5: Thailand, Brasil, Belgium and Italy

  • Too bad Zhang Changning is out because I would like to see how well she can play being the ace for China. Zhu Ting will probably not play much due to the long season and altitude sickness recently. I also hope to see Li Yingying play in Macau or HK because haven't seen her played for any Chinese team since 2015 Girls World Championship.

Zhang Changning sent one message through her fans weibo, that she confirms her absence from Kunshan leg but the reason seems not her health condition.
She mentioned the precise reason shall be high confidential due to the China NT internal discipline, which abviously caused more curious conjecture though....

i may not be the tallest,
    the fastest, or the strongest,
but at least i can do one thing better than anyone else,
    to be me...

  • Zhang's father got a heart attack several months ago and he was hosptialized. Not sure if her absence could be related to her fathers illness.

  • It looks like Macris and Fernanda Tomé were cut from Brazilian NT roster for the 1st week.
So this is the full team:

    S: Roberta/Naiane
    OPPs: Tandara/Monique/Edinara
    OHs: Natália/Rosamaria/Amanda/Drussyla
    MBs: Carol/Bia/Adenízia/Mara
    L: Suelen/Gabi

I think Monique or Edinara will be out of the court as 15 players have traveled to Turkey.

  • Guys, if anyone is interested in creating PREDICTION GAME - feel free to do it :D :wavy:

I started new job and unfortunately I have no time to look at it :(

  • Serbian roster for Ankara has been anounced. Tijana Bošković is going, but it's not certain how much she'll play.

    S: Ana Antonijević, Bojana Živković
OPP: Tijana Bošković, Sanja Malagurski, Ana Bjelica
MB: Milena Rašić, Stefana Veljković and Jovana Stevanović
OH: Brankica Mihajlović, Tijana Malešević, Bjanka Buša, Bojana Milenković
    L: Jelena Blagojević, Teodora Pušić

Terzić said that Serbia is definitely going for a medal this season and will play each tournament with the strongest squad at the moment.

  • It seems like Serbia has the best line-up of middle blockers as for now.

I wonder where is Gabi and Juicely? Why are they not playing?

  • I doubt it. I do not think they have even trained with the NT since the club season ended.

They might come back to the World Grand Champions Cup at the end of the year, but it's not certain yet.

I'd also like to see more Li Yingying. That 2015 match needed more cameras. Since she's been cut from the GP roster do you think she'll play in the U20s?

The weird part is that Li Yingying has been left out of all junior teams since 2015 Girls World Championship. There is a conspiracy theory going on that she will be a secret weapon for China but I doubt it. Since she is part of the WGP wide roster, I am hoping she might get to play other legs or finals but very unlikely because she has not trained with the national team at all. Li Yingying's situation has been a total mystery as far as I know. Hope someone like Tomen can give us more info. Thanks in advance.

  • i am more interested in the information you released....now it seems confirmed that the new regulation will be applied from the next edition.
every team will face to each other for a total of 15 games....
have you got any information of the other week groups ?

Thai reporter only revealed the group that Thailand will participate each week, so I don't know the other groups.
