2018 FIVB Volleyball Women's Nations League

  • Serbia will be playing on home court and I'm sure that all the main players will be there. They don't get to play in front of their own people all that often and tanking would be a complete nonsense.
I'm guessing Veljković will be back instead of Popović who is carrying an ankle injury. It sucks for Mina because she'd be playing in her hometown and now she'll likely miss it. Speaking of which, it's the same place the men played this week and the atmosphere hasn't been all that spectacular, I doubt it will be better for the women.

That atmosphere has me really worried because we are probably one of the rare countries where male volleyball is more popular (even though our female team is much more successful in the last 5-6 years), and where I have seen people regularly make (wrong) comments that male volleyball is of higher quality, simply because of the sexist belief that all male sport is automatically better than its female counterpart.

That said, I hope my fears will be proven wrong.

  • Mina Popovic injured again?? Oh nooo...I follow Malesevic on instagram and I think she had a minor injury and this week she posted a video saying she`s done with rehab.
When will Zinvkovic be back?? by the way does she has a daughter?

Yeah...the fans in Kraljevo were cold and the arena was not even sold out...I wonder how many people will show up for the women once they play weekdays.

  • I don't know what the deal with Živković is. Terzić said she's been given some time off due to "personal issues", and the last time he used that phrase about a player, Silvija Popović turned out to be pregnant, so...  She posted a picture on Instagram with Nađa Ninković with the caption "Maid of honour", so perhaps she's getting married. I dunno.

Kraljevo was an odd choice to host both tournaments. It's a town with a really struggling economy and most people cannot afford to attend six days of volleyball there. Women should have played in Belgrade. I know that most sports have a problem with getting the crowds to show up in this city, but with the right marketing and adequate ticket prices, I think it would have been OK. I mean, there are SO many young girls playing volleyball here, they could have easily filled the hall all by themselves. But anyway, I hope the crowd turnout will at least be decent.

  • this week so far THA vs POL was the most fun and interesting match to watch. I always love THA style of playing. Pornpun did a good job, a better job than her previous matches. Ajcharaporn played much better now. I think Ajcharaporn-Pimpichaya-Chatchuon trio is the new Onuma-Willavan-Malika. Onuma's return is so fun to watch. It feels like she never left.

So what will be the roster for THA next week? Can we expect Onuma to play full time? And will Thatdao be finally there?

Thailand NT roster for week 3 are
    MB: Pluemjit, Hattaya, Watchareeya, Chitaporn
    OH: Onuma, Wilavan, Ajcharaporn, Chatchu-on
    OP: Malika, Pimpichaya
    S: Nootsara, Pornpun
    L: Piyanut, Tapaphaipun

Wipawee (OH) and Supattra (L) are out.
For Thatdao, we still hope to see her on week 4.

  • Japanese roster for the 3rd week in Hong Kong, China:

From the 2nd week roster 19. Mari Horikawa [OPP] is out and 24. Aika Akutagawa [MB] come back in.

  • Turkish roster has Aylin (libero) and Aslihan (setter) added this time. This might mean a rest for Gizem Örge and Gamze Alikaya; however Turkey might play use 3 setters in the roster as well, not sure yet. Judging from her instagram, Gamze is on vacation with her family. I saw Ebrar with the NT on instagram, good news for Pope! :)

Guidetti is probably angry at some of the girls since he tweeted recently that he talked to an olympian gold medalist and asked if she will skip one of the weeks and she answered she will follow her NT in all 5 weeks because it is fun. He added "what a great mindset". I completely agree, wish Turkish girls had the same mentality.

I also read that Eda is enjoying the NT season a lot and will probably be with the team whole time :super:

  • i dont know how talented Setter Buse Ünal is but why didnt Guidetti add setter Arelya Karasoy to the wide roster intead ?..is that bcz Buse is 186 cm Arelya 182 cm ? e.g. setter Aslıhan KIlıç is 178 cm WHO is in the roster. Arelya played whole a year in VVSL as first setter.Buse in the first Division. She may be more talented than Arelya i dont know much about Buse Ünal.
    Guidetti knows better than me.
we know how important it is having a tall and talented setter like Naz Aydemir. WHO is a good blocker indeed but having 178 cm tall setter means being vulnerable to being exploited by the good teams
lets see how Aslıhan will do...she wont have a Wilma Salas in her team :D

maybe Guidetti wants to pull out a new Naz of Buse

  • Weird things going on in Kraljevo. There was a press conference for team coaches and captains, but Guidetti didn't let Eda Erdem attend it. As a protest, Russian and Belgian coaches decided not to let their captains (who did arrive to the conference) talk to the media. :S

Wonder who that Olympic gold medalist is :D

    Love drama!

  • Milena Rašić feeling lonely :gone:

Where are you watching it, Joana? :)

  • I'm not watching, the picture is from the Federation's website, as well as the news about Guidetti's dramatics.
There are also statements by Rašić and the four coaches, but not much of importance there, mostly the usual phrases. Guidetti had an interesting bit, though, saying that Serbia and Turkey may have the same record so far, but different goals - Serbia's goal is to win, while Turkey's goal is to take it one match at the time and learn and grow from each experience.

Still no news about the roster. I imagine it will be mostly the same as the last week.

In 2015, during the CL FF tournament in Poland, there was a media training with every team.excep Vakifbank because Guidetti didn't let the TV (and probably other media) entrance their practise :D
