Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2016/17

  • I thougth, it is required by VBL? I thinks this should and will penalized with money, so financial aspect is questionable.

In an article about Suhl before the season was written that Han Abbing has to do the match analysis because the club has no scout, and the links for stats from their previous home matches leads to a PDF file saying that there is no stats file available for this match

I guess with so many clubs in trouble, VBL is more willing to accept such things because the alternative is ending up with a league with only 8 teams

The Stuggi Rocks-banner was yours? ;)

Our fan group, some about 40 persons yesterday, has created several banners, they are not from me personally ;) .

I agree about Valerie Nichol...she is really, really strong... :white: :white: And I also liked the Thai libera..

About Aachen: both Daalderop and Oude Luttikhuis were a disaster in receiving....and the setter, Kimmy Whitson, didn't manage to set one decent single ball backwards... :wall:

Compared to previous season, Aachen has become much more powerful in block and attack...while receiving and setter is much worse...

Yes, our Thai libera is very good too, we met her last season in CL with a now nearly bankrupt Baku club.

Consider, that Stuttgart has some very dangerous servers, including Valerie and Jennifer Pettke, who destroyed both at times Aachens reception.

  • I am no expert but cannot agree:
Daalderop and Oude Luttikhuis are very very young. They really have to get much better in reception, but I think you should give them some time.
"Whitson, didn't manage to set one decent single ball backwards"? May be but during the 2015-16 season Britt Bongaerts did not manage it to use the attacking skills of her middles nearly over the whole season. Even after Weihenmayer having left the team and leaving a big gap at the left side, Bongaerts did not get the idea to use the attack power players like Svobodnikova and Kosova had already shown the season before! I think, Whitson is at least as good as Bongaerts or even better!

  • Quarterfinals of DVV Cup to be played tomorrow, all matches live on http://www.vbl.tv

    09. November 2016 I 19.30 Uhr I USC Münster vs. Schweriner SC
    09. November 2016 I 19.00 Uhr I Dresdner SC vs. Allianz MTV Stuttgart
    09. November 2016 I 19.00 Uhr I Köpenicker SC vs. Rote Raben Vilsbiburg
    09. November 2016 I 19.30 Uhr I Ladies in Black Aachen vs. SC Potsdam

In all matches the guest teams are the favourites, but in the Cup it's not unusual to see surprises from the underdogs.

  • It seems, that ENTIRETEC won't be with Dresdner SC and they have the expected problems to find an adequate outside hitter at this stage of season. Therefore the new top duel Stuttgart vs. Schwerin will be likely, not only this season. Today both Schwerin in Münster and Stuttgart in Dresden are the clear-cut favorites, but the underdogs are playing at home and have nothing to lose, so it will be not too easy for the guest teams.

  • So all the favorites won their matches in DVV cup today. The main difference in Dresden was attack efficiency in general and especially after good reception: Stuttgart was clearly superior in this regard and also notably better in service.

Schwerin was very dominant in Münster - it showed up again, that Stuttgart and Schwerin are clearly the best teams currently.

More tedious wins were Vilsbiburg in Berlin-Köpenick and Potsdam in Aachen, but both prevailed in four anyway.

    Semis:

Potsdam - Schwerin (not that easy for favorite Schwerin)
Stuttgart - Vilsbiburg (not difficult for Stuttgart, I guess)

  • More tedious wins were Vilsbiburg in Berlin-Köpenick and Potsdam in Aachen, but both prevailed in four anyway.

Very weak match with Potsdam playing bad and Aachen playing very much worse. Aachen completely insufficient in serving, receiving, defense, blocking, setting, attacking ...
Seems Aachen especially needs an experienced player not only to bring order into their game but also to give a kick in the a.. of some colleagues on the field if necessary.

  • Münster - Schwerin 0:3 (21:25 16:25 15:25)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&8108.pdf
MVP: Erica Wilson / Louisa Lippmann

    Dresden - Stuttgart 0:3 (19:25 22:25 19:25)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&8109.pdf
MVP: Valerie Courtois / Valerie Nichol

    Köpenick - Vilsbiburg 1:3 (25:21 13:25 7:25 19:25)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&8110.pdf
MVP: Dominice Steffen / Lena Stigrot

    Aachen - Potsdam 1:3 (17:25 28:26 20:25 22:25)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&8111.pdf
MVP: Anna Kalinovskaya / Roslandy Acosta

So no surprises again, and thanks to the semifinal draw, it is very likely that once again the two best teams of the season, this year Schwerin and Stuttgart, are going to meet in the final :box:

I'm still not sure about Potsdam - but the coming weekend they will play in Münster, which is another opponent and contender for semi finals in the championship, so we can learn more about them.

  • Yes, Stuttgart vs. Schwerin is expected to be the big match of this season, but before Mannheim the first clash of both will be on 17.12. in Stuttgart in league round.

  • Schedule for the weekend:

    12. November 2016
    19:00 Köpenick - Wiesbaden
    19:00 Aachen - Dresden
    19:00 Vilsbiburg - Erfurt

    13. November 2016
    14:30 Münster - Potsdam
    15:30 Stuttgart - Suhl
    18:00 VCO Berlin - Wiesbaden

All matches except VCO-Wiesbaden as usual live on http://www.vbl.tv, Münster-Potsdam as TV production

  • Yes, this is supposed to be the most interesting and important match this weekend. In the past not always those matches were selected as best productions...

  • No surprises today: Wiesbaden won as easily in three sets in Köpenick like Vilsbiburg at home against Erfurt, more tedious it was for Dresden in Aachen, but although they lost a set there the defending champion took the three points home, which are required heavily not to lose any contact to the upper places in the table.

Dresden continues to have major problems in the back row. If not for the astoundingly bad serving by Aachen (18 service errors in 4 sets!), Aachen could have won this match.

Alex Waibl has already half given up this season and only tries to survive as good as possible: he told the obvious, that Stuttgart and Schwerin are now superior and Dresden could only catch up to them, if they get both more financial support and effective additional players, the last not being possible at the moment. - Myrthe Schoot for example didn't realize their situation on the other hand after the clear defeat in DVV cup against Stuttgart, despite the outcome of the matches against Schwerin and Stuttgart was rather clear...

    Today 14.30 Münster-Potsdam and 15.30 Stuttgart-Suhl on http://www.vbl.tv

  • Münster - Potsdam 3:2 (26:24 19:25 25:18 17:25 15:12)

MVP: Ines Bathen / Ivona Svobodnikova
Not exactly a good match but an interesting one. Potsdam's big guns Drpa and Acosta both were ridiculously shaky, at times they scored very impressive points but they also made terrible mistakes at other times, especially Drpa. For Münster Jule Langgemach had a very good match, I think she or Linda Dörendahl should have been their MVP. Hanna Orthmann started bad but was very important in 5th set. Andi Vollmer's plan to play with the two tall OHs Anisova and Orthmann who both can't really pass failed in every match so far, in the long run at least one of Bathen/Fuchs has to be on court for Münster.

    Stuttgart - Suhl 3:1 (25:15 20:25 25:20 25:13)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&2020.pdf
MVP: Wanna Buakaew / Veronika Hroncekova

  • VfB 91 Suhl proved to be much stronger than expected - the easy win of the first set was due IMHO to the fact, that Suhl had at first to adapt to an opponent of this level in this season. Second set Stuttgart was not sure of itself, and Suhl played much better as in the first. Since the third set Stuttgart had to use the full attack row Whitney/Mlejnková/Sandor with major contributions by middle Pettke too, to destroy finally Suhls block-field defence. MVP of Stuttgart could have been Michaela Mlejnková or Jennifer Pettke (high end blocking/serving/attack performance) as well as Wanna Buakaew, I think, for this well balanced team it is most often difficult to decide, who gets the award. While for Suhl most points were won by Hroncekova and captain Claudia Steeger as expected, the team worked well overall and was especially good in service and reception, what is responsible for the much more close race than expected before.

The league table shows effectively a double lead now: Schwerin and Stuttgart both won all 4 matches with 3 points each (12 in total therefore) and won both 12 sets and lost 2 - the minimal margin of two ball points won more and one point lost less makes Schwerin currently staying on place 1 of table (ball point ratio 1,28 to 1,27), which is virtually no difference.
