Germany - VBL 1. Bundesliga 2016/17

  • Kim is back in training since a week. :) :)

But she was not playing even one point in Dresden, despite there was strong demand for effective substitutions. The truth is, she is not yet fit enough respective sufficient in rhythm to help the team currently, plans are to get here fully back for DVV cup final on 29.1. Maybe she can play before even a set or so...

  • That last match is supposed to be the most interesting one - if Vilsbiburg wins the match with three points, they would catch up to Potsdam - though unlikely. - MVP of Vilsbiburg against VCO was Lena Stigrot.

  • Erfurt - Aachen 0:3 (20:25 19:25 23:25)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&2078.pdf
MVP: Lisa Stock / Anna Kalinovskaya
Aachen without Kirsten Knip (sick), so Nicole Oude Luttikhuis played as libero :white:

    Suhl - Dresden 0:3 (21:25 16:25 12:25)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&2079.pdf
MVP: Marrit Jasper / Katharina Schwabe
Mareen Apitz and Liz McMahon were absent due to illness

    Schwerin - Münster 3:0 (25:23 25:18 25:21)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&2077.pdf
MVP: Louisa Lippmann / Juliane Langgemach

    Stuttgart - Köpenick 3:1 (25:18 25:14 22:25 25:7)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&2076.pdf
MVP: Renata Sandor / Nele Iwohn
Great stats for Nia Grant once again :super:

    Tomorrow Potsdam-Vilsbiburg

  • Studying the statistics, for Stuttgart the best scorer was by far Michaela Mlejnková even with a better attack efficiency and service statistics than MVP Renata Sandor (who was really good, by the way) and I would have picked indeed Nia Grant as MVP (77% attack efficiency is even for a middle outstanding, she collected more points than Sandor and did 5 block kills). Third set of Stuttgart was very bad, but they took revenge without mercy in the fourth for that loss of a set.

  • Potsdam - Vilsbiburg 3:2 (25:19 25:17 24:26 19:25 15:11)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&2081.pdf (soon)
MVP: Marta Drpa / Keao Burdine

I was quite disappointed by Denise Imoudu's performance. She had big problems with precision, I didn't like her choices many times and she looked very nervous and frustrated with herself all the time. With regard to NT, Irina Kemmsies has been much more convincing for me this season...
Acosta was very good in the first two sets, later Imoudu completely forgot her. Luckily she discovered Drpa right in time to win the match. Vilsbiburg got some help from the referees in 3rd set but overall deserved the point they won after two very bad sets in the beginning.

    Ranking:
    1 Schwerin 14 12 39:11 36
    2 Dresden 14 12 38:16 34
    3 Stuttgart 14 11 36:16 34
    4 Potsdam 14 10 34:26 27
    5 Vilsbiburg 13 7 27:21 23
    6 Wiesbaden 13 7 28:26 20
    7 Münster 12 7 23:24 19
    8 Aachen 14 4 24:32 15
    9 Köpenick 14 4 21:34 12
    10 Suhl 14 3 16:34 11
    11 Erfurt 13 2 11:36 6
    12 VCO Berlin 11 1 11:32 3

To say Denise was very nervous and frustrated with herself ALL THE TIME when they played a perfect two first sets where Vilsbiburg never really happened and her passes were near perfect is far from the reality on the court yesterday. Vilsbiburg did not only got some help from the referees in the third set but he literally gave them the set with his not less than 4 bad calls in favour of Vilsbiburg or else Potsdam would have won in 3 straight set. That the whole team were outraged after those bad calls from the referees in the third set is understandable but a more experience team would have managed the situation better as Potsdam did. Good that your opinion about who has been more convincing between Denise and Irina is just your opinion and it count for nothing in selection for the NT.

  • Schwerin has now officially announced the arrival of Hannah Tapp as new MB. Anja Brandt isn't expected to return on court anytime soon :S

I will drive to Schwerin to see her. See any Games of Minnesota last season and I think she is good for Schwerin

  • The two most interesting matches are Dresden vs. Wiesbaden and Vilsbiburg vs. Stuttgart of course. It is far from being sure, that Dresden will win - you never know, how Wiesbaden will play a certain match; and Vilsbiburg will try everything to damage Stuttgart, I'm sure.

  • Münster - VCO Berlin 3:0 (25:23 25:13 25:15)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&2086.pdf
MVP: Hanna Orthmann / Pia Kästner

    Dresden - Wiesbaden 3:0 (25:17 25:20 25:22)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&2082.pdf
MVP: Katharina Schwabe / Tanja Großer
Dresden played a solid match in all elements, and Wiesbaden IMO was really bad. Last week I was disappointed with Denise Imoudu, today I have to say the same for Irina Kemmsies. She had zero connection with the middles today which usually is one of Wiesbaden's strengths. But nobody of the team played well today...and their coach says they improved a lot compared to the last two matches :white:

    Köpenick - Schwerin 1:3 (23:25 19:25 25:20 12:25)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&2083.pdf
MVP: Julia Hero / Lauren Barfield

    Aachen - Suhl 3:0 (25:17 25:16 27:25)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&2084.pdf
MVP: Femke Stoltenborg / Veronika Hroncekova
Stellar performance by Stoltenborg, scoring 9 pts on her own and making the team attack with over 50% success. Suhl couldn't use two set points in 3rd set.

    Vilsbiburg - Stuttgart 1:3 (25:17 22:25 18:25 23:25)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&2085.pdf
MVP: Marlies Wagendorp (19 pts with 80% attack) / Nia Grant
Each team with one blackout set, the other two sets were very balanced and on a good level with many nice rallies.

    Tomorrow Münster-Erfurt and Aachen-VCO.

  • Dresden - Wiesbaden 3:0 (25:17 25:20 25:22)

Irina was not as bad as Matthias saw her. Both Eszter Nagy und Simona Kóšová went into the match unfit. That there was no connection with the setter was not much Irina's fault.

Setting the balls to Kosova way too low many times has nothing to do with Kosova being not fit. Same goes for the sets to McCage, some balls were too low to hit and others she could reach just with her fingertips.

  • I added the stats of Vilsbiburg-Stuttgart in the post above.

    Münster - Erfurt 3:1 (25:9 21:25 25:17 27:25)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&2088.pdf
MVP: Linda Dörendahl / Lisa Stock
Both teams weak in attack overall and great in defense, though the latter somehow is consequence of the first. Antonia Stautz with 3/40 :!: in attack :aww:

    Aachen - VCO Berlin 3:2 (22:25 25:18 19:25 25:19 15:7)
    http://live.volleyball-bundesliga.de/2016-17/Women/&2087.pdf
MVP: Nika Daalderop (26 pts with 65% attack and 5 aces) / Paula Morgenroth
Amazing match by the 18 year old Dutch OH who won the tie-break almost on her own. If she can improve her passing (and compared to the beginning of the season she already has) she can become a world class player :!: Aachen overall with more probems than expected but hats off to the Junior girls who created a lot of pressure with serve and defended very well. They even had the chance to take 3 pts, leading 14:9 in 4th set, but then they were distracted by two referee decisions against them and lost their nerves which allowed Aachen to come back into the match and take it eventually.

    Ranking:

  • @ Matthias

Nika already improved her reception indeed, compared to the start of the season.

She could become a good player, but I don't think a top-player. Why? Because she isn't a great jumper, at least until now she doesn't shows it. Against a high block, she has huge difficulties. Compared to Celeste Plak, for example, she lacks power and height.

  • She's appx 1.90 and she can hit very hard as she showed a few times today. Of course she still has to improve in all elements, but considering her age I think she has a great future ahead. Obviously she won't be the next Kosheleva or Zhu Ting, but I believe she can be great.
