I think this is the best solution, with Köpenick gone it would already be clear that every team except VCO would at least be in the pre-playoffs, now there will be a real fight for 8th place. Quarterfinals are very important for all the teams except Schwerin, Dresden and Stuttgart to keep the season interesting even when it's clear they can't finish 4th after regular season.
And every team less means two less match days in regular season, roughly the same a playoff round best of three needs regarding time (two weeks). So this eased things up regarding league round and playoff schedules. Playoff dates will be published very late, near end of league round, but the "risk" is very high, that the three CEV cup participants Stuttgart, Dresden and Schwerin can put at least one into semis, so playing schedule collisions are not unlikely, if there is not enough seperation of the matchdays in playoff.
