Turkey- VVSL-Vestel Venus Women's League 2017/2018

  • First half of the season is done, now we can jump to some conclusions.

Despite been only 1.83cm Carol got the most blocks with 40 and she`s ranked 2nd best MB overall, while Eda is #1, Rasic #3.

    OH - Jerkov ranks #1, Salas #2, Zhu#3. Kosheleva is at #11.

    OPP - 1# Rahimova, #2 Boskovic, 3# Olesia.
Meyrem took the most swings with 462, Olesia 428.

Setter - Interesting that Dilik is #1, but not surprising at all as she`s been playing well and next season she deserves to be a starting setter if not for Vitra she should move to a different club. It is nice to see the young Turkish improving in this position.
    2# Akin, 3# Nilay, 4# Maja 5# Naz 6#Gamze

They don`t show overall stats like best scores, but I think at the top are probably, Olesia-Boskovic-Bujis-Meyrem,Rahimova,Salas.

    Olesia-Boskovic-Salas-Bujis-Meyrem

  • Not a surprise. No Jessica Jones, no blocks.

  • The Best Serving Teams by Number of Aces per Set:
    1.Feenerbahçe (3 aces per set)
    2.Galatasaray (1,9 aces per set)
3.Çanakkale B. (1,8 aces per set) (Çanakkale has had more aces than Nilüfer and Beşiktaş)

    2.Ilbank (1,2 aces per set)
3.Bursa BB. (1,4 aces per set)

  • I agree, I really missed her fabulous blocks this season, Seramiksan needs to ditch all their foreigners and get Jessica Jones back tbh

Edit: @Sisko OH and Opp and the best position stats in general are a joke indeed, Ceyda Aktaş is in there lol. I dont take it serious anymore after seeing it. Better to look at reception % and spike % efficiency amount/ per set to get an idea who the best are, same for blocking. instead of these joke position stats

  • Kinda confused about what these rankings are about. For example Jerkov is #1 OH but what does this actually mean? Neither her attack nor reception are that great so I'm a little confused and also how can Rahimova be ranked ahead of Boskovic?

For the setters, certainly Cagla is not on the court much so it doesn't really count. I've always said I don't think stats can really show much about a setter's performance.

MB stats are a bit more understandable, Carol is indeed a brilliant blocker but I guess everyone already knew that, only Safranova is anywhere near her in kill block numbers

  • The Best Teams by W-L Ratio :
    1.Eczacıbaşı Vitra W-L : 451
    2.Vakıfbank W-L : 409
    3.Fenerbahçe W-L : 384
    4.Halkbank W-L : 354
    5.Bursa BB. W-L : 334

The Worst Teams by W-L Ratio :
    1.Ilbank W-L : 108
    2.Seramiksan W-L : 233
    3.Çanakkale W-L : 249

Best players are determined by calculation of each skills such as attacking, reception, serving and blocking. The impact of each skill in the algorithm changes depending on the position (so if you are MB the killing blocks are more important). In theory, I think, this is a good idea however the impact of serving is too much in this calculation, that's why good server players such as Jerkov, Brinker and Ceyda are leading in the rankings, except these a few players the ranking generally represents the overall performance of players very well. (not for setters though, it is the only position that can not be evaluated based on statistics  )

  • Not to forget bad servers immediately become bad players in their position or at least can't get a good ranking even though they do the rest fairly well. Serve is important but it is not all there is which is why I think this system needs a little adjustment. Ceyda with 10-30% each week and barely over 10 attacks a match and not even a lot of swings in top5 suggests we need a new system.

  • Thank you for the explanation, serdar! This makes sense, but I think it makes more sense just to look at individual skills when looking at stats because it is too difficult to calculate how valuable serving is for an MB or blocking is for an OH

  • I agree individual stats are much better to look at. Imo an OH main role is reception and attack, MB is blocking, and Opp is offense. So this is what I personally look at. Serve is important in a tough league as this one, so adding it a little to the stats is understandable but it getting this huge affect is pointless especially when you could just sub a serving specialist. Also agree, how well should an OH block? Hard to determine indeed. Even Alajberg as Opp is high ranked now after her aces today while she cant even kill a ball.

  • How is Nootsara performing so far? Is she good? Is she a good replacement for that US setter?

And how about FB's scoring machine last season, Natalia? Is she playing good coming back from her injury?

These 2 players were the reason why I love FB last season. Including Queen Yeonkoung.

Nootsara was already Fener's player from the last season and american setter Lloyd never played for Fener so we cant talk about a replacement.Nootsara is already one of the best setters worldwide i especially like her connection with the middles.

on Natalia P. : her overall passing percentage : % 58 positive % 35 excellent....her attacking percentage % 46..she is on the 13th place on the best spikers list
she played well in some matches played less well/worse in some matches as well.she is amongst the setters reliable attackers together with Rahimova and Eda

  • I also check the stats of vakifbank. One thing is very interesting! Vakifbank's start line-up play much less sets than other players in other club. It is wonderful to work in vakifbank!! Kubra plays the most sets in the club this season! :teach:
