  • after defeated by China in the Semi, Korea has eliminated from the World Cup apart from wild card...

according to the world ranking released on Jan 15th this year....african vice champion Algeria (15th) secures a higher ranking compared to Korea (18th)

for tomorrow, no matter korea wins over thailand or not, they cannot have the chance directly for the world cup as the second best team from asia, because Japan is among the top three and will not take the spots from Asia..aparently Algeria will represent african to participate in the World cup

for Thailand, they will try to snatch the third place to take the second spot for world cup, besides China and Japan (host)

i may not be the tallest,
    the fastest, or the strongest,
but at least i can do one thing better than anyone else,
    to be me...

  • It is always not clear which Ranking is important to the FIVB.
I remember that in the past the FIVB used past Ranking and new was in live.

  • joana...if you read this link about the formula of 2011 World Cup

    http://www.fivb.org/EN/volleyb…up/2011/Women/formula.asp

    it is indicated as follows

    Vacancies
    ORGANISING COUNTRY: 1
    2011 CONTINENTAL CHAMPIONS: 5
    (one per confederation)
2011 VICE-CONTINENTAL CHAMPIONS: 4 (the four highest ranked in the FIVB World Ranking as per January 15, 2011)

    WILD CARDS: 2
FIVB, FUJI TV and JVA will choose the remaining two teams under the condition that they took part in the corresponding Continental Championship, have enrolled for Olympic Qualification for London 2012 and guarantee television broadcasting in their country

NB: In case Japan is continental champion or vice-champion, the third ranked team from continental championship will participate.

If thailand got the 3rd, ok, thailand will ko algeria...
If Korea got the 3rd, no, Algeria will ko korea....For asia, we will lost one spot in WC...

but we all know Japan volleyball association probably recommend an african or asian team with wild card to make sure they will not challenge too much against the host.. :cheesy:

i may not be the tallest,
    the fastest, or the strongest,
but at least i can do one thing better than anyone else,
    to be me...

  • Pappi, do u know what is the hola ranking from January?

as what Bartek said, we could depend on Google, of course simetimes on wikipedia as well in my opinion...

but i can tell you one easy way that many of you might have ignored...if you open the FIVB World Cup link i have posted, there is a hidden link on the description with bold written words...and that is the world rank on Jan 15, 2011

the direct link for the ranks

    for men
    http://www.fivb.org/en/volleyball/VB_Ranking_M_2011-01.asp

    for women

    http://www.fivb.org/en/volleyball/VB_Ranking_W_2011-01.asp

the only method to trace the history ranks is to change the month numbers or the year numbers

i may not be the tallest,
    the fastest, or the strongest,
but at least i can do one thing better than anyone else,
    to be me...
