Lima, Peru, June 29, 2012 - Dominican Republic came out on top against Cuba in the II Copa Federación. Both countries represented by their youth squads gave quite a show to the audience at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum in Lima.
It was an important victory for the Dominicans, 3-1 (22-25 25-15 25-20 25-20) in a match where the experience of Pamela Soriano was bigger than Daymi Sanchez's in the Cuban side.
Even though Daymí and Peru’s Ginna López are the only players in the Cup to have played a Women’s Junior World Championship, Soriano showed everyone why she is one of the best Dominican talents.
Soriano managed to score 22 points in the match, 7 of those points were aces, making her the Best Server so far. On the Cuban side of the net, the left-handed spiker Yarellis Mendoza didn't quite gave the surprise, disappearing completely from the match in the last sets.
Dominican Republic stays second in the table after Colombia pulled the biggest upset, in the first day of competition by defeating Peru in straight sets (25-22, 27-25, 25-21).
