    First U-23 Women’s Pan Am Cup in Peru



    Lima, Peru, August 28, 2012 - The Peruvian Volleyball Federation, announced the inaugural U-23 Pan American Cup to be played at Coliseo Miguel Grau del Callao from September 3 to 8.
    Juan Castro Romero, president of the Peruvian Volleyball Federation, made the announcement during a press conference in Lima on Monday.


    Most of the best he eight teams in the continent will be taking part in the competition to be telecasted by Frecuencia Latina national station.


    Brazil, Cuba, Argentina and Colombia will compete in Pool A while Dominican Republic, Canada, Costa Rica and Peru will play in Pool B.


    “A year ago we had the U-20 Pan American Cup, a tournament that gave our country its first title after 17 years,” Castro Romero said. “This year in the first U-23 Pan American Cup, our goal is to start the journey of our young team to the main goal of all, the classification of the Peruvian team to the Olympic Games Rio 2016."


    The competition format includes the preliminary pool play from September 3 to 5 with the top teams of each group getting a bye to the semifinals. The second and third place teams will compete in crossover quarterfinals on September 6 with the semifinals and finals on September 7-8.


    During the press conference, Castro Romero announced the roster of the Peru team to be coached by Brazilian Jose Francisco Dos Santos. The athletes are: Carla Rueda, Karla Ortiz, Raffaella Camet, Clarivett Yllescas, Daniela Uribe, Alexandra Muñoz, Zoila La Rosa, Gina Lopez, Angela Leyva, Angelica Aquino, Miriam Patino and Mabel Olemar.
